Yes. But only until he showed his character. Or basically the lack of anything you could call that...
Then he had to even be "injured" on the last matchday to avoid the "good bye" that he deserved... (and that wasnt a friendly one)

Jones is one of the biggest idiots in pro football.
And he seems to have some horrible advice on top of that.... ^^

    JONES INTERVIEW CARES FOR UNREST

Felix Magath is everything but happy about Jermaine Jones‘ decision to play fort he US Team in the future. Mainly the timing of the announcement was criticized. Special unrest was caused by an interview with the “New York Times”. There you could read that his change to the US selection was having a racist background. The 27 year old denied that immediately.

„I will have a talk with Jones about this topic. I would have wished that he hadn’t dropped such an important decision during the vacation. In July it still would have been early enough”, says Magath in the Tuesday edition of “Die Welt”. Jones did not inform him about his plans. “I didn’t even know that the statutes changed and you are allowed to play for a new country after already having played for another national team.”

The coach fears increased travel stress. “The player is suffering disadvantages from his choice. He will have to travel around half of the globe for the NT games. You can do that two or three times but it’s not good on a permanent base. He will have to care for himself more than he did before, will need more regeneration”, believes Magath.

Jones himself had to suffer some unrest because of an interview with the „New York Times“. There it was stated that he isn’t feeling accepted well enough in his current home nation… Via the Schalke homepage Jones immediately declared that these statements are not true and that he was quoted in a wrong way. “It has nothing to do with racism. I don’t think you need blond hair and blue eyes to play for Germany”…

Jones explained that the Times printed wrong quotes. “After we talked about possible reasons for not being considered for the national team by the German Soccer Association the journalist came to talk about the topic skin color. I told him exactly the opposite of what was printed”, said the 27 year old who played three games for Germany. The statements implemented the impression that the reasons for not nominating him had racist motives. “This would be complete nonsense”, said Jones.

Jones agreed to get the interview before the print to authorize it “as I wanted to make sure that I expressed myself correctly and that my statements didn’t lead to misunderstandings”. The email with the interview never came. The newspaper released an article “with some incorrect content”…

In this interview Jones explained “I don’t have a good feeling about stuff in Germany”. Jones said “This statement only reflected my chances in the national team, I regret if the article caused a wrong impression. I feel very well in Germany and would have loved to play for the national team. But Joachim Löw made it very clear that he doesn’t plan with me”

I can only assume he meant it like "perfect German", as if it were something people of a certain attitude might think. I don't think he was making a judgment of his own there.

Then I am sure we will find similar comments in reference to Carlos Grossmuller, Rafinha, Jefferson Farfan, Vicente Sanchez, and Josue, Makoto Hasebe, Yashito Okubo, Caiuby, Grafite when he was at Wolfsburg. The man was at Bayern, I am sure he dealt with this a lot.

I was quoting Jones, I have no idea what the perfect German is or even if it exists, but evidently Jermaine Jones does. Calm down and actually try to understand someone's point before you cry out next time.

*edit - Looked back at my post and it's pretty clear I said for whatever reasons he thinks people might not like him because he's not "the perfect German."

Well, I am sure he did. But the answer to the question, "what business is it of his...", well, that is why.

    My bad...

    Re: Jermaine Jones update

Is there any concern regarding his decision to shun Germany to play for the US in terms of his manager, or opposing players or for that matter within his own locker room?

Since he was getting snubbed I can't imagine them having a guy for his own career. Players realize more than anyone that playing for national teams is a great way to help your career. It seems very unlikely that coaches or players would treat him any differently because he chose to play for another country.

Deco, Higuain, Chanko (Davies' Hammarby teammate), etc haven't been treated differently from players or coaches. I remember one statement about Camoranesi from Gattusso who maybe said he thought he should have chosen Argentina instead, but that is the only thing I've read or heard of. And it's not like Gattusso treats him poorly from what I know.

Fans are the ones who might have a different attitude toward him.

    Re: Jermaine Jones update

    No.

No one can blame him for having an American father and no one can blame him for Germany not wanting him in their set-up under Loew and Co and no one will hold his decision against him. It is a "second" chance to play at the international level.

Remember, it was not Jones that gave up on the DFB and the German NT, but the other way around.

He did not "shun" Germany in anyone's eyes - well, other than a few lazy journos writing under headlines like "Jones turns back on Germany..." to get some attention...ridiculous.

But, people can be upset with him for making stupid remarks everytime he opens his mouth forcing him to either apologize or have to clarify that he was misquoted yet again. In the end, managers and team players end up getting caught in all of this.

Sounds a little like an attitude issue, but in America, even negative exposure might be good exposure for the USMNT, as perverse as that sounds.

    Oh....he has got "attitude" alright!!!!

As far as exposure, that is probably true...

I think someone mentioned that he could be the Dennis Rodman for the USMNT!!!

Well, nobody blames him for the ancestors but you know that Jones is a player with one of the worst reputations in the league. This interview surely didn't improve his sympathy values. As you follow Bundesliga you will know that it's not the first time he's in the headlines with ridiculous statements. I remember a game in which he has been sent off with a yellow-red and he was (once again) blaming the ref for that although he must have seen two straight reds before in this game...

i don't really give a sh*t what the germans think. and it's not because i'm some ignorant, myopic American. it's because here in the U.S., we love personality. some would call it *flare*. when clint mathis points at the invisible watch on his wrist while staring at his coach after scoring an incredible goal for Hanover, that's the last we ever see of mathis in Germany. that's how it is over there. in Germany I'm sure that kind of behavior is tasteless. but over here, fans love it. if JJ has some *attitude*, we'll love that too. perhaps that's why he ended up taking his second chance on us.

frankly, i'm sick of U.S. players taking cheap shots and watching CONCACAF players kill the clock with their theatrics while U.S. players are forced to act *proper* and with *class*. time for our team to get some heart again and believe their champions like Donovan and DMB used to in 2002. and if Jones, with all his undignified behavior and attitude, can do-then bring him the fu*k on!

Hah! If Mathis did that anywhere in the world, he would have been treated the same way. You can't show your manager up like that in any sport. That was absolute, sheer, selfish stupidity. I can picture a basketball player doing that to Bobby Knight right now. That would constitute a chocking, at the very least.

I agree with you, though. We need more "pieces of flair." (A movie reference I'm not sure our German friends recognize :) )
