I forgot to mention the "Dip n Dots" cart on the east side was pushed a couple hundred feet from where it stood before the storm.
Somewhat telling that the subject that receives the most excitement and intrigue was the storm that blew through rather than the play on the field. It sounds like the Dip 'n Dots cart made better moves than most of the team.
I got off to a late start on the drive to the game. If I had realized I was going to race a tornado/warning to Flower Mound/Lewisville, I would have stayed home. 121 traffic managed to hold me up until the real "interesting" weather had passed through Lewisville; I passed an overturned trailer rig and a bunch of cars "cowering" underneath the overpasses passing Grapevine mills along 121. Once I got through the Lewisville mess, it was clear (if wet) "sailing" to PHP. I was 5 minutes "late" to the scheduled starting time. No one was manning the gates at PHP so I just wandered in noticing a bunch of knocked over trees and chairs (and no "complementary food and drinks"; Grrrrrr. Eventually finding my way to the VIP club or whatever they called it. Managed to explored the Suites upstairs which were not guarded when I wandered in. Probably should have stayed in one of the suites where there was food but no bodies. But it would've been fairly boring and what might they do with "freeloaders" if I got caught "mooching" ?
HSG hired Howdy-Doody the Used Car Salesman to supervise ticket sales, gave the marketing department a whopping $3.00 budget to brand and advertise, and put Johnny the Short Sighted Accountant in charge of the whole operation. The franchise's current dire situation should come as no surprise to any of us.
Okay, you (oscar_in_fw) are officially crazy, but so are we. I had been watching the radar and knew the line of storms wasn't good. We still went. Now, the main reason was because the 12-yr-old was supposed to walk out a player, and this was one of the few chances she'll get (because I doubt we'll be buying 30+ tickets anytime soon). While that didn't happen (because the players went straight from warm ups to the bench to get the game moving), she got to say "hi" a bunch of the guys. By 7:30, they had moved everyone inside to storm-safe areas, but the food before the storm hit was great. I do not blame them for not setting everything back up, though, afterwards. THings were a bit of a mess. I thought management did an EXCELLENT job of keeping us nutso fans safe during the whole thing. We left at halftime for various reasons, but by then it was hardly a game. I was VERY disappointed by the Herediano team. Maybe it was jet lag (and having played LA the night before)? They made unnecessarily hard fouls.
Great sunset after the storm, though. Hubby walked around taking photos instead of watching the game. (Since we knew it would rain, we only brough the little camera.)
Oh, and while she didn't get to walk any players out, she did get to spend time in the clubhouse kitchen with Señor Sala. P.S. Sala said he'd be training again (full training, I think) in a couple more weeks. We also saw Alvaro Sanchez, who was wearing a foot brace and using crutches. He said he'd be out just two weeks. Hmm . . . maybe.
It was a pretty fun memorable night. The sunset was awesome. Staff did a good job getting everyone safe. I was in the tunnel. The game was pretty lively until the reds started flying. Not totally convinced the initial red was warranted either. What was the other game that got delayed like this a couple of years back like this. US Open Silverback game? Tigres friendly? Seems like these friendlies with Concacaf brethern always end up with thuggery and bad mojo.
The first red on the tackle on Brek should have only been a yellow. I was sitting right there when the play happened and there was NO WAY it should have been a red. The game went downhill from that point.
Agreed. HutchTX, did y'all take any other photos? And more importantly, can I steal some for the newsletter? My camera stayed in the car last night.
Did anyone roll through downtown Frisco when they left? We skated at about the 70 min mark. I found it funny the stadium was lit up like a christmas tree, but the ENTIRE downtown area was pitch black. From the stadium heading down main I didn't see another light until I got to the 7-11 well past Preston.
The US Open Cup match against Charleston last year. The rain in the 35th minute only delayed our asswhoopin.
Just a couple of the kiddo and sunset photos. Dave had the camera most of the time. We do have a couple of wide angle shots of the game. I'll send of a link if these storms ever go away so I can turn my computer back on.
Match Report: SC Herediano vs FC Dallas Reserves June 11th, 2009 . 12:17 pm . By: Buzz Carrick http://www.3rddegree.net/
We got there by 6:30... and were able to attend the little pregame Season ticket holder party briefly before being moved to the underground tunnel. 2 of the 6 in our tailgate group are vegetarians - so we were disappointed that the only free food offered was hotdogs... But honestly, we didn't expect much... we know better by now But how hard would it have been to offer cheese pizzas or salads or something meatless? The little disposable FCD camera gift was pretty weak too... who uses non-digital cameras anymore? Given the weather, FCDallas towels or ponchos would have been a better choice We stayed the whole 90 minutes... and sat in the rain the entire time... not sure it was worth it given all the randoms out there running around.. I felt like I was watching college guys play in FCD jersies.. may skip future bonus games and save the tickets to redeem for MLS games if the roster resembles last night's roster.
