Very interesting conversation here. Now let's enjoy again Michael's first goal in the BMG dress. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zwu6Wi9yL6M&feature=related"]CLICK 1[/ame] CLICK 2 [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzi-DlRa2AY"]CLICK 3[/ame]
The joy of the offseason discussion topics on soccer fora. Or should I say "forums" in keeping with the BS tradition.
In US Soccer's Studio 90, Michael is asked abotu how playing at BMG made him a better player and he talks about the constant pressure forcing him to focus on every thing he does on the field. You can see it at: [ame]http://www.ussoccer.com/teams/mens/fwc/launchStudio90.jsp_20.html[/ame] in the "DA asks the MNT" section (first question). There's also a long interview with Gooch, a question to Jozy about playing time, and one to Guzan about whatever. And at the end, Mikey gets asked his favorite question...again. EDIT: The embedding doesn't seem to work, but if you click on the title, it'll work.
Gladbach signed a new coach today, Michael Frontzeck; he was my candidate of choice. Grown up in the club, played some hundred games, ended his career under Hans Meyer and became Meyer's assistant coach and student some years ago. He coached the hopelessly inferior Alemannia Aachen and Arminia Bielefeld sides in the last years, and put up a good fight with very bad players. He's very nice, straightforward guy, an even-tempered teamplayer, who knows how to get the best out of a modest team, and is very familiar with everything in the club. Gladbach also reportedly signed a new forward (not yet officially confirmed), the young Argentinian Raul Bobadilla from GC Zürich for a reported transfer fee of 4 million Euros.

Frontzeck likes shared responsibilities and collective action in midfield. He will never play a lazy AM with other players doing the dirty work. His teams were built up from the back, giving no easy goals to the opponents, with a steady defensive system, a hard working midfield, pace and creativity on the wings, and shared goal scoring responsibilities for everyone in midfield. We have to wait and see what the formation will look like, but I think his and Mikey's playing philosophies are a perfect fit.

As of now Bradley has a secure spot on the roster already because some of the quality players are leaving. Playing without Galasek, Marin and Baumjohann will hurt the team a lot. I like Gladbach but I got stomach ache for this team when I see the off-season moves so far. They urgently need at least one new forward as only Rob Friend has the needed standard, they need a creative player to replace Marin and they need a guy to organize the defence to replace Galasek - and you need all these moves to just be on the same level as in this season. And of course they need to keep Logan Bailly in goal, otherwise they get a huge problem on this position again. Signing Frontzeck was a pretty poor move I'm afraid - of all the many teams looking for a coach they were the first to sign one and Frontzeck is not a coach to build a future on. Sorry to say but being a long time player for the club might make him sympathetic for the fans but it doesn't make him a good coach. He was neither successful with Aachen nor with Bielefeld and all he did was trying to avoid getting goals - might be okay for these small teams but Gladbach actually has some potential. Basically they'd need to step up one level for the next season but so far they are doing one, maybe even two steps back. Still hoping they'll find some good players though, but with the current setup I see them very endangered to get relegated
But Gladbach need a lot of help organizing their defense don't they? A defensive coach may help them.
Their defensive line is okay with Daems and Dante in the center and Stalteri as right back. They just need someone to organize them. What was already shocking this season was their simply structured offence style, they need to improve there. The only constant threat was Marin who can always care for danger with his one on one skils. Otherwise the offence looks like long ball to Friend who wins the air ball and secures possession until the others are coming up front - extremely predictable.
In my opinion it's senseless to estimate the value of the current roster. The earliest moment to make a halfway! reasonable statement will be the end of june. If the Galasek-replacement (Meeuwis, already there) will be as good as his predecessor? Who knows? Will be difficult, that's for sure. If Frontzeck will be a good coach for the club? Who knows? I surely don't but prejudment often sucks (at least in my case). But I'm pretty sure that his Bielefeld/Aache-time isn't that meaningful for the future performance of Gladbach. Heynckes f.e. came as a CL-winner-coach and nonetheless failed totally at Borussia. However Bradley's place as a 'starter' should be very stable because his style of playing and the preferences of the new coach will be a perfect fit I guess.

Luckie, you'd have better posted this poll result. http://www.borussia.de/de/borussia_news_detail,185,0,newsid-171503.html Great honor for Mikey to be elected as best midfielder of the season by the fans ... but let's be honest, the guy who should have gotten this reward is Tomas Galasek!
Looking him up on Wikipedia, it seems he joined the team in mid-December and had five appearances. Bit hard to make a claim to best of the season if he only was out there that much.
I read somewhere that BMG gave walking papers to four (4) current players effective at the end of the season but they weren't named. Does anyone know who they were/are?
That must be Ndjeng (last months on loan at HSV), Svärd (last months on loan at Hansa Rostock), Coulibaly and Touma. All of them have been of no importance for Borussia in the last season. @ Borussia You're right of course. The experience and the tactical skills of Galasek made him the most valuable midfielder although he only played in the second half of the season. MB would agree I guess. I assume that he learned a lot from Galasek.
Maybe a new rival/partner for MB in the national team? According to kicker (http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/nationalelf/startseite/artikel/510084/) Jermaine Jones (of both citizenships, central midfielder playing for Schalke 04, three friendly matches for Germany) is seeking to play for the US-team in the future.
