You are correct it was on Telefutura and Comcast. That would provide another explanation for why the numbers would be lower, as the viewership would be spread across two channels.
Well last night DC United had more fans watching the game against Red Bull ( 11,226 ) than did the Wash Natinals watching Randy Johnson win his 300th games ( "about 5000" ) Somebody please tell me again why baseball got a $600M stadium for free?
The paid attendance last night at Nationals Park was 16,787 - and it was pouring rain. Baseball people don't watch bad teams play in the pouring rain - it's just kind of a thing they have. And I don't really think that we should be bragging about get 11k for New York. Frankly, our attendance has been poor this season.
And 11k was our announced attendance, but in reality maybe 8 or 9k? Im still not worried, shit weather, nats double header (had to take a few fans away from us) and game 4 of the stanley cup was our competition. Expect a big turnout against chicago, i wouldn't be surprised to see our 1st 20k game this year.
Also, game 1 of the nba finals was on ABC, as espn could not possibly let go unnoticed. It seems to me both the NHL and NBA have gotten some more attention this year for their playoffs than in several recent years. Just an impression.
see, I disagree, I think Ronaldinho would do really well in MLS. He always plays better in low pressure situations and on teams where other players will run for him. Allow him to be Brazilian and he'll thrive. A litte Alegria brings out the jogo bonito. I just don't think he'll be interested until after 2010.
I'd suggest it is either you or your provider as all of CSN's games have been broadcast in English for me.
It's definitely not me, no problem with any other station or program, and a couple others on the forum have had a similar problem. Something is screwed up with the feed I'm getting. You would just think that somebody in charge of these things would have noticed with the first game it happened. I can't be the only person in the county watching the game... or am i?
I thought that last night's crowd looked to be the smallest regular season game I've seen in years and I guesstimated the crowd at 9,000-10,000. The paid attendance for the Nats was 16,000+. We know we'll play in the rain (vs. Houston excepted) but it's a gamble to go to the ballpark for baseball on a day like yesterday and I'm sure it's part of the reason there were only 5,000 on hand. The weather reduced actual attendance at both facilities significantly last night.
I noticed it. I was at my friends house, he has COX, the feed the entire first half was from Radio America, basically no crowd noise and bad audio quality, it was cool having it in spanish though. At half time it switched over to regular audio with Thomas Rongen and DC's english radio announcer. On the non-HD feed, the audio was fine the entire broadcast.
That's the second person reporting the problem with only the HD feed. Both games in question I was watching the HD DVR recording, so there was no switching to SD.
I came to post the same thing. Soccer plays in rain for the most part while baseball doesn't. Anybody could have told you #300 shouldn't have been played days ago, but they eventually got it in. Attendance and viewership for both teams has been disappointing, but I think United's has been a greater issue. The Natinals are losers and they are run by a group that doesn't care about this region or the people in it. There are several reasons why there has been a dropoff in attendance(including the economy), but there are just as many things that could be done to improve United's attendance. I heard a couple of people a little upset about the $15 tickets for last night's match. Those tickets weren't being sold to somebody who doesn't regularly come to games though. Also, those tickets had a $10 service fee.... I didn't expect much because of the rain and midweek time, but it looked like an Open Cup match or one of those matches against a low-level international team that nobody cares about. It didn't look like a regular season game out there.
Paid attendance means tickets sold, not people through the turnstiles - I'm pretty sure our "Paid Attendance" was towards 15K last night - Thats all the regular season ticket holders plus Plan A - But not all of my group could make so thats only 8 actual attendees out of 10 tickets sold - And there's usually a young family of six right behind us with (with 4 little kids) - They weren't there at all - I'm pretty sure that the rainy weather scared off a lot of ticket holders from this game - Especially since there is a pretty good ticket exchange policy with DCU - It really doesn't hurt to skip a game - You can always come to your choice of Col Rapids (07/18), San Jose (09/27) and possibly KC Wiz (now moved to early Sept) (but they will probably choose another weekend game) So I don't care if the Nats " sold" 16000 tickets - 16000 people didn't show up - Only 5000 did
Maybe that's the problem with their ratings. Nats fans tuning in to CSN instead of MASN. Think about this. Of the 2500, how many of us are at the game recording it to watch later? Since soccer fans are notorious tapers, I'll bet the percentage of that number is high. Thx, Jay!
Doesn't count unless you have a Neilsen box anyway, no ratings systems account for your or my "actual" viewing........
I thought Tivos counted as Nielsen boxes...Heh, usually I have the Tivo record it, and my Dish DVR record it as well, as an emergency backup. I wonder if I count as two households? Sometimes both tuners in the Dish DVR record it, so I get THREE copies. I figure I'm doing my part.
While some DVR numbers are tracked and certain cable systems keep track of viewership, if you were a Nielsen household, you'd know.
