    Superliga 2008/09, round 31 (of 33) :

    SønderjyskE v OB Odense, 1-1 (0-1)
    0-1 Peter Utaka (10)
    1-1 Sölvi Ottesen (90+3)
    Attendance: 2,746

OB Odense really messed up their last hope of a Danish championship by thinking that they had it all under control. It all seemed to go according to plan with a fairly quick goal by the vistors and then with the young SønderjyskE Star player Ken Ilsø getting injured (dislocated shoulder) and replaced in the 16th minute... and perhaps this made the Odense players think this would be an easy 1-0 win, because they seemed too happy just keeping their narrow lead and this really returned to haunt them in the last minute of injury time... a predictable result when you try to play it safe and dont really invest more in getting a bigger and more comfortable win. Then you do run the risk that something like this is going to happen in the very last minutes. It was on the other hand yet another good result by SønderjyskE, who are doing what they do best and putting up a good fight to escape relegation.

    FC København v Brøndby IF, 4-0 (1-0)
    1-0 Jesper Grønkjær (2)

    3-0 Ailton Almeida (71)
    4-0 Oscar Wendt (74)

While OB Odense slipped up, then the Brøndby defense was simply run over by a strong looking FCK attack in this top clash at Parken Stadium. Max Von Schlebrügge has rightfully been selected for the TV2 Sports 'team of the week' several times in a row this season, but in this match he seemed to have an absolut horrible off-day, making all kinds of huge mistakes and he was more or less involved in all the FCK goals. Brøndby did try to put up a good fight in the second half, but besides being poor in defense, they were also struck by some injuries that left the head coach more or less helpless on the bench, because it prevented him from making any real tactical changes as the match progressed. So all-in-all Brøndby seemed defenseless against a very strong looking FCK team that surely derserve some praise for this match, that easily is FCK's most convincing win ever over their main rivals.

Brøndby are of course still only 2 points behind in the league table with two rounds left to play, though it seems unlikely that an FCK team in top shape are going to slip up in their last two games, not to forget that Brøndby themself face AGF Aarhus in a difficult looking away game in the next round.... and as also written, they suffered some injuries, so that their shared top scorer Morten "Duncan" Rasmussen and Dutch midfielder Remco van der Schaaf are finished for the rest of this season, while it's also doubtful if Thomas Rasmussen will be able to play against AGF...

Brøndby have btw just signed a 4-year contract with the 18-yo Gambian defensive midfielder Paul "Appa" Jatta, who they believe to be a new young "Claude Makélélé"...

    3-1 Jonathan Richter (60)
    4-1 Bajram Fetai (90)
    Attendance: 4,014

An excellent playing Bajram Fetai and his FCN team-mates FCN can be happy about having escaped the relegation battle, while the many experinced "names" in the Vejle team simply has not managed to show the needed fighting spirit this season and now surely are going to wake up to reality in the Danish 1. Division next season.

    1-0 Jesper Lange (45)

Esbjerg were fighting to secure their survival in the Superliga, so the home team seemed highly motivated, while you could not really say the same about the visitors who were alrerady sure to finish 4th in the league table this season. So ther is really not much to report except that it was a good match Esbjerg and that the young winger Christian Sivebæk once again impressed for the visitors as the highlights below also imply...

    AaB Aalborg v AC Horsens, 2-2 (1-1)

    1-1 Adam Eckersley (22)
    1-2 Gilberto Macena (80)
    2-2 Luton Shelton (90+2)
    Attendance: 5,487

AaB have seem to have run out of gas, but it should be said that the match was dominated by the home team and that the Horsens players looked very tired and had grat trouble defending their surprising lead at the end of the match.. So with a bit of luck AaB could have secured the win in the end.. still, the last goal was a bit of a lucky punch in 2 minutes injury time, btw the first Superliga goal by Luton Shelton who is not going to get a permanent contract at Aalborg, but is to return to Norwegian side Vålerenga this summer when the loan deal is up.... The Horsens players looked very disappointed, "losing" 2 points in injury time and they did not get any closer to escape relegation since SønderjyskE also secured 1 point in their match against Odense,

    Danish Cup Final 2009 :

FC København v AaB Aalborg, 1-0
    1-0 William Kvist Jørgensen (31)
    Attendance: 29,249

AaB Aalborg have seemed worn out and not been able to secure a win in their last 11 games in a row, while FCK seem in much better shape, heading for the Danish Championship. Infact, the last time Aalborg reached a Cup final was in 2004, where they lost 0-1 to FC København, so ther was really nothing that seemed in favor of the visitors before this years Cup Final... Though it should be said that Aalborg did try their best, but just seemed to lack the last bit of sharpness, just as it has been the case in the Superliga of lately... The FCK team played around 20 good minutes, but after they scored the goal, they also seemed tired and more interested in keeping their lead, so the match lacked the expected intensity and became quite a disappointment, especially for the visitors, since Aalborg now have lost their past 7 Cup Finals in a row and not won the Danish Cup since 1969/70. Their only comfort is that Thomas Augustinussen won a small Cup, since he was selected as 'man-of-the-match'... or more correctly 'Danish Cup fighter' 2009. Though the best player in this match actually was Canadian International Atiba Hutchinson.

Well done we say to the giants from Copenhagen. But for me and the Aab-fans it´s a pitty that they don´t seem to be able to find any form for very long. I hope it isn´t Persson´s fault. He is maybe still a bit unexperianced as a coach. At least in Sweden he showed his tactical talents. Maybe we see now more clearly also the fact that FCK have a wider range of players to choose from. They are then able to continue to produce a higher level of football over a longer period than the other clubs.
Anyway, great atmosphere there in that final. Fantastic. I love Denmark and Aab.

    Kind Regards from Göteborg.

The Aalborg players have been going pretty much without any vacation since they won the Danish Championship... so if you ask me, then they are simply worn out, also mentally... They have been riding on a wave of success, but at some point you 'hit the wall', so to speak...

Perhaps it's also good thinking that Aalborg now are replacing several players this summer, because the much success could make it difficult for some players to keep their focus on Aalborg, because they have now had all the success they are able to reach in Denmark and will be thinking more about moving abroad...

    Superliga 2008/09, round 32 (of 33) :

    Esbjerg v FC København, 0-1 (0-1)
    0-1 César Santín (pen.) (45)
    Attendance: 12,081

A win to FCK would bring them very close to the title no matter the result in Aarhus, but it was actually Esbjerg looking like the better team most of this match, while the FCK players seemed more nervous than usual and made lots of easy mistakes throughout the match. but as it usually is the case with top teams, they often manage secure a narrow win even when they are not looking that good, though they were in need of a penalty to get all 3 points. FCK keeper Jesper christiansen, was btw selected as Man-of-the-match, which pretty much says it all, regarding the rather poor FCK play.. But since Brøndby lost to AGF, FCK have now won the Danish Championship 2008/09... so congrats to FCK :) , it is surely deserved, buth when you look at the quality of their squad and on how they have played this season... Much more attacking minded and entertaining than the past many seasons..

    FC Midtjylland v OB Odense, 1-1 (1-0)
    1-0 Jude Nworuh (30)
    1-1 Njogu Demba-Nyren (73)
    Attendance: 7,710

Though the home team had absolutely nothing to play for, they clearly dominated and also took a deserved lead. Despite Odense looked better in the last 45 minutes, it was too little too late and the 1-1 result is of little use in the fight for silver medals.

When Danny Califf is fit, you can always count on him being one of the regular starter and playing all 90 minutes for FCM... and so it was also the case in this match.

    AaB Aalborg v SønderjyskE, 1-1 (1-1)
    1-0 Anders Due (12)
    1-1 Rasmus Hansen (pen.) (45)
    Attendance: 5,415

Not much to say really, except that it was a rather predictable result. SønderjyskE may have the poorest squad in the league, but they got a solid looking team, have an excellent fighting spirit and are fighting for their survival in the league, while the Aalborg players simply are worn out and do not have more to play for this season. But they still have some good player who are able to make a difference, like Anders Due who scored yet another excellent free kick goal in this match. Never the less, SønderjyskE equalized right before half-time and was able to hold on to this result, which now give them a 3 points lead to Horsens before the last round of this season, though Horsens still have the better goal difference.

Marcus Tracy played the first 79 minutes for the home team, doing quite well according to the reports, though not scoring any goals.

    AC Horsens v FC Nordsjælland, 2-3 (0-2)
    0-1 Issey Nakajima-Farran (2)
    0-2 Martin Bernburg (30)
    0-3 Martin Bernburg (55)
    1-3 Rawez Lawan (67)
    2-3 Gilberto Macena (76)
    Attendance: 4,336

Horsens are still very much fighting to escape relegation, so you could think this would be a fairly easy win for a highly motivated home team against an unmotivated and depleted FCN team that had just secured yet another season in the Superliga. But with the help of some very poor Horsens defending, the visitors were able to take a 3-0 lead that Horsens were not able to recover, though they did try to fight back, but it was just to late to get a result. Their last chance and hope is now to win away against Odense, while SønderjyskE at the same time lose their last match at home to Esbjerg... Not very likely at all...

Parkhurst was warming the bench and only got to play the last 17 minutes. Not that he has done poorly so far, but probably because FCN want to give some of the reserves a run in the last few games this season.

    Highlights :

    Randers FC v Vejle, 3-2 (1-0)
    1-0 Marc Nygaard (11)
    1-1 Bora Zivkovic (59)
    2-1 Bedi Buval (86)
    3-1 Søren Berg (87)
    3-2 Adda Djeziri (89)
    Attendance: 5,947

Vejle were in need of a win to escape relegation and they did play a fairly good game, but were (as usual) not able to keep their lead and just lacked that last bit of power and and sharpness, which has been their problem all season. Their well paid and highly experienced "names" have just lacked the needed fighting spirit to win their games at the bottom of the league. In any case it looked like a useless draw, until Rander finished the visitor off the last few minues of the game... Though first Randers young forward Bédi Buval (who is returning to France this summer) no doubt made the biggest and most encredible miss all season, when he somehow missed the ball after he had dribbled past the Vejle keeper and was was about to tap the ball into the empty ned :D .... Randers are still in 5th place, but probably need points against Odense, since Vejle is facing 6th placed AGF in their last match...

FCK seemed more interested in celebrating their Championship and not losing this match, though ther was of course also some focus on the top scorer duel between Marc Nygaard and Morten Nordstrand, that in the end was won by Nygaard when Nordstrand "missed" a penalty... The match became fairly entertaining because the the two teams did not worry too much about the tactical level and did not seem too focused on their defending.

"Old-man" Thomas Helveg made two assists when Odense surpringly, but also deserved, managed to secure the League Silver medals in the very last round... and it has been a very good season for Helveg who has looked very good, no doubt because he has not been troubled by injuries of lately. When he is fit and in top shape, he is still a classy looking player. Though AC Horsens actually put up a very good fight in the last 45 minutes, it was not enough to turn this match around and while Horsens now have suffered relegation, 12,000 Odense supporters, Eric Djemba-Djemba (as you can see below) and his team-mates were celebrating their rather unexpected Silver medals..

    Brøndby IF v FC Midtjylland, 2-4 (0-2)
    0-1 Frank Kristensen (1)
    0-2 Jude Nworuh (45)
    0-3 Mikkel Thygesen (53)
    1-3 Kasper Lorentzen (70)
    1-4 Danny Califf (73)
    2-4 Alexander Farnerud (penalty) (90)
    Attendance: 15,806

Brøndby could secure the League silver medals, while FCM were trying to make Frank Kristensen league top scorer. And it started well for Kristensen when he took advantage of some horrible defending after only around 17 seconds. The Brøndby players on the other hand, seemed to lack the needed fighting spirit and motivation, probably because they had not recovered from the huge disappointment, when they lost their last hope of a Championsihp in Aarhus.... So a horrible ending for the Brøndby players and supporters, finishing this season with 3 straight defeats....They surely need reinforcements if they are to challenge FCK and Odense for the championship next season. But who are to leave and who are to stay ?... The rumour is that Icelandic midfielder Stefán Gíslason seem finished at the club...

Danny Califf, who went all 90 minutes as usual, finished the season by scoring a goal, as you can see in the highlights below...

    Vejle v AGF Aarhus, 2-1 (0-0)
    1-0 Eduardo Delani (58)
    2-0 Adda Djeziri (73)
    2-1 Jesper Blicher (79)
    Attendance: 5,302

Vejle had already suffered relegation, so several of the Vejle players are now looking for a new club this summer and no doubt were trying to leave a good last impression... For AGF it was on the other hand the question of if they should finish 5th or 6th this season, but they were resting several of their regular starters and also gave Superliga debut to two of their very young talents, so in the end Vejle got their only 4th league win this season. Feilhaber played all 90 minutes for AGF.

    FC Nordsjælland v AaB Aalborg, 2-2 (2-1)
    1-0 Bajram Fetai (28)
    1-1 Henrik Dalsgaard (37)
    2-1 Dennis Cagara (40)
    2-2 Lasse Nielsen (47)
    Attendance: 4.521

Parkhurst played all 90 minutes of this poorly played match, with absolutely nothing at stake except for the honor and then Aalborg trying to escape a streak of 13 winless games (in all competitions). .. Not a good finish to an otherwise great season for Aalborg.. and now they are saying goodbye to several players... It is already 100% sure that Thomas Augustinussen, Siyabonga Nomvethe, Kasper Risgård, Steve Olfers and Luton Shelton are leaving, while also Michael Beauchamp has been told by the club that he should try to find himself another club... So AaB are going to be very active on the transfer market this summer, if they are to find some classy replacements...

    SønderjyskE v Esbjerg, fB 1-1 (1-1)
    1-0 Sölvi Ottesen (4)
    1-1 Gunnar Heidar Thorvaldsson (12)
    Attendance: 6,988

SønderjyskE were in need of one point to mathematically secure their survival and it only took them around 5 minutes to wrap this up, even though Esbjerg quickly managed to reply. After the break it seemed like both teams were pretty happy with holding eachother to a draw, so ther is really not much to report. SønderjyskE survive in the Superliga, which to be honest is a huge surprise... If they also will be able to survive next season is more doubtful, because they survived by not really buying/selling any players, to preserve their good solid team work and fighting spirit and it now seems 99% sure that the 'Most Valuable Player' in the Superliga Ken Ilsø is to be sold, while also their captain in defense Sölvi Ottesen is on the move to someting bigger and better...Two absolute key players the SønderjyskE team-work surely can not afford to lose..

    Ceres,

Any thoughts about Kent Nielsen and whether he will stay with BIF or not? My Danish is still pretty basic but it seems like BIF supporters are quite angry at him. As for myself, I feel like I don't know enough to make a judgement along with the fact that this season was a greater success than last year. It seems a bit quick to get rid of him after five months.

It is a tough way to end the season, especially to not gain the Europa League place. I'm sure that the top brass at BIF aren't happy with him for missing out on all that money.

Before AGF signed Erik Rasmussen, we had the same debate, about if Kent Nielsen could be an option at AGF. Personally I was against signing him. The main problem with Nielsen is that he used to be a defender and in that sense he was the perfect fit at Horsens, because they had no other ambitions than to stay in the Superliga, showing some good solid defending and teamwork...

When Brøndby later signed Nielsen, ther was some disappoinment among supporters who would rather the club had signed a much more attacking minded coach (like Rasmussen), because they also didnt believe that Nielsens style of play would suit a big club like Brøndby, that is suppose to be a top team in the league... Of course they are even less happy now that the Brøndby play and results have not been all that great after Nielsen took charge... If you ask me, then I think it was a mistake to sign Nielsen..

After the last three games of the season it's evident that Kent Nielsen is the wrong man to lead Brøndby IF back to former greatness. So who is responsible? Well, Kent Nielsen isn't the one to blame, by all means he is just doing the best he can playing the style he knows.
Both his skills and style of play isn't anywhere near being worthy of a "big" club like Brøndby.
But then who is responsible? Anders Bjerregaard is, that incompetent little foolish dadby's boy is ruining everything and appearently his position at the club isn't even up for debate anymore. Get your filthy incompetent hands off the leadership of my club you whanker!

    Aaahhh, that helped
