The best use of the Tribune is to help start your charcoal grill or fireplace. Using it for toilet paper would be a little rough.
Any self-respecting fish would have been offended to have been wrapped in the "World's Greatest Newspaper" for the last 60+ years.....From "Dewey Defeats Truman" (they were part of the "liberal" media even then, dontcha know!), to putting the Martin Luther King assassination on Page 3 (look it up: April 5, 1968--Red Streak Final) to employing the likes of Skip Bayless, David Israel, Rick Talley and Dave Nightengale in their "sports" section, this rag has been a total embarrassment for decades. David Haugh and the poor man's Royko (Jon KASS--who continues to WHINE about "positive" media coverage of OBAMA: odd to complain vaguely about bias given his employer's historic slant, but I digress) continue the tradition of shallow, cynical, contempt of their readers. After I gave up on KASS, LUIS was the only reason I went to their site....no more. They deserve ZELL.
Well it could be worse: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/soccer/index.html No FIRE game coverage since the CREW match! Great job front office! Not only can they not get people to the stadium, they can't even get reporters to it!
The Trib as part of the liberal media? When the Trib endorsed Obama in 2008, it was the 1st time it had EVER endorsed a Democratic Presidential Candidate! http://www.amny.com/news/local/chi-chicago-tribune-endorsement,0,1760772.story?page=1 _______________________________________________________ THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Colonel hated more the just FDR ! Dropping a great soccer writer is proof enough that the days of a great newspaper are over! Yes, I feel like stopping my subscription. However, the days of newspaper and sportswriters are over! It's the electronic media that matters.
Ha, this paper has about as much to do with the McCormick family as Sam Zell does with being Catholic. ROFL... Long long long gone
Their only Fire story was from AP and their web site still plugs Luis' Red Card Blog. Its time for the Team to write its own game stories and features and send them to the papers. (whats left of them)
What happened to Ives boy? Trib gave him a trial and didn't like what they saw? Though the Red Card was certainly lacking compared to Ives and Goff's stuff it was better than having nothing, which is where we're at now.
Yeah, this site is the trib's new blog specific endeavor. It just sucks that it appears it won't be listed through the Trib's site...guess we'll wait and see...
It really sucks that the Tribune will apparently have noone covering the Fire with the exception of this blog. Looks like more AP game stories are in store. How old is Stan?.......15? nice pic
Mike Kellams is the Associate managing editor for sports @ Tribune. Today I called the number listed in the Trib. -312-222-3478 but I was unable to speak with him. Instead, I spoke to a woman assistant who explained that all decisions on what goes on the sports pages are made in the editorial boardroom. I said okay and she was pleasant enough, but I explained that it was impossible to believe that the Tribune were being fair to the game of soccer, especially the Fire. She became nervous when I compared Blackhawks coverage to the Fire's postage stamp snippets on game day and she agreed that it was strange that a team that averaged 17.000 plus last season for home games got so little while the Black Hawks had multiple pages of color photos in the last month or so. I understood from her that there have been complaints. I often wonder how does the Fire feel about this miserable coverage?
It looks like Sam is about 19. http://www.ihsa.org/activity/scb/2005-06/2info5.htm ___________________________________________________ THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brian, The whole city was buzzing about the Hawks. People watched them on TV!!! They sold out the UC all year!!! Contrast that with the Fire when they won their 1st year. Poor attendance and no TV ratings. Hence no coverage. __________________________________________________ THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING!!!!!!!!!!!!
The whole city was buzzing because the media was shoving it down everyone's throats. The Hawks buzz was a media created frenzy due to a savvy front office who knew how to market the product. Of course it also helped that they had a young winning team.
Although the media coverage of the hawks was overdone it wasn't until old man wirtz died and McDonugh (former sting employee) was hired, and they turned fan friendly and also started to win, selling out games in the process, did the media take notice of the hawks.
Gentlemen: You are all correct, but just to be clear...I was being sarcastic about the "World's Greatest Newspaper" being "liberal"...Hence, the use of quotation marks...But that's on me....Sorry for wasting space...
