ah well, it's official now Barcelona > Spain great game, but Eto'o is really concerning me lately. hopefully he gets all these misses out of his system by May 27
Wow at the Athletic Bilbao players all crying. This meant so much to them, and yet we absolutely dismantled them over the course of 15 minutes and kept them from achieving their dream. Feels good.
Visca El Barca (I think it was you) - I am seeing conflicting information on the Spanish Super Cup. That is we may not be playing Real Madrid, but rather Bilbao: "* In 1984 and 1989 the cup was awarded to Athletic Bilbao and Real Madrid respectively as they had won La Liga/Copa del Rey doubles. ** However, in both 1996 and 1998 it was contested, even though Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona also won the double, respectively. The losing finalist in La Copa del Rey was selected to play and won both times. The cup was not contested in 1986 or 1987 as the clubs involved could not agree on dates." From wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_Super_Cup Playing the loser of the Copa makes more sense to me than playing the 2nd place squad in La Liga (real) , and I see no mention of playing the previous year's Liga or Super Cup winner (both of which would of course be Real Madrid).
Yes, I echo the props to Bilbao, for playing to win, for losing with dignity and pride, for supporting their squad so well, for their local player thing, etc. I sure do hope that they get to play us in the Spanish Super Cup instead of Real Madrid (although I suppose once we'd won it I'd savor the latter more).
I missed the game live because of work. Just got home and told myself I'd read through this thread only up until halftime. But once I started reading, I couldn't stop. SO HAPPY!!!!
A drink in toast to Barca and 1 of 3!!! A second to Athletic, a true worthy opponent who went down like men!
