    Superliga 2008/09, round 25 (of 33) :

Team of the week according to Danish TV 2 Sport :
    http://tv2sport.dk/node/31015

Rasmussen (AGF) - Randrup (Brøndby), Håland (AaB), Augustsson (Horsens), Frederiksen (Randers) - White (AGF), Jönsson (Brøndby), Lawan (Horsens), Absalonsen (OB) - Utaka (OB), Farnerud (Brøndby).
    ---
Once again Jeremiah White was selected by Danish TV2 Sport for their 'Team of the week' for his performance against league leaders FCK. As for the other Americans then both Danny Califf and Parkhurst played all 90 minutes for their teams, while Marcus Tracy got to play the last 30 minutes for Aalborg.

    AGF Aarhus v FC København, 1-0 (0-0)
    1-0 Ole Budtz (85)
    Attendance: 10,803

Feilhaber played from start and White was selected as man-of-the-match... Read the match report in the Feilhaber and White at AGF Aarhus thread here :

    OB Odense v FC Nordsjælland, 3-0 (1-0)
    1-0 Johan Absalonsen (2)
    2-0 Peter Utaka (53)
    3-0 Peter Utaka (63)
    Dennis Cagara, FCN [IMG] (79)

OB Odense is a physical strong and very solid looking team that, except from having some trouble with FCK and Brøndby, otherwise perform at a constant high level against the other teams in the league and they also delivered a solid looking performance in this match against FCN. Odense got one of the absolute strongest looking squads in the league and their players are just more experienced in compare with a team like FCN, so this result was to be expected, though FCN were cheated of a penalty by the referee.

    AC Horsens v Esbjerg fB, 1-1 (1-1)
    0-1 Emmanuel Ukpai (13)
    1-1 Gilberto Macena (23)
    Attendance: 5,125

It was a rather boring match, perhaps because both teams seemed happy getting 1 point each and were too focused on not losing, rather than taking any risks.

    FC Midtjylland v Randers FC, 0-2 (0-1)
    0-1 Issah Ahmed (7)
    0-2 Tiago Targino (89)
    Attendance: 7,050

Randers had changed from a 4-3-3 to a 4-4-2 system and this seemed to do wonders for the visitors, because not only did they manage to get their first away win against FCM, but they also managed to keep a clean sheet for the first time in their passed 17 Superliga games in a row. FCM have not really looked convinsing of lately and they were also in great trouble in their last two games against Vejle and AGF, but this time they finally ran out of luck. So a deserved win to Randers against a toothless looking FCM team.

    Brøndby IF v SønderjyskE, 5-1 (2-0)
    1-0 Alexander Farnerud (2)
    2-0 Alexander Farnerud (24)
    3-0 Michael Krohn-Dehli (57)
    3-1 John Jairo Mosquera (64)
    4-1 Ousman Jallow (81)
    5-1 Ousman Jallow (pen.) (88)
    Attendance: 15,022

Brøndby have played rather poorly of lately, especially their defending has not looked very good, but this time they were up against a very poorly playing SønderjyskE team that seemed to have lost all hope of escaping relegation... or perhaps they just didnt think they would get anything from this away game anyway and are instead trying to focus on the home games they got left, especially against Horsens, Vejle and Esbjerg. In any case, they were totally run over by Brøndby...

    AaB Aalborg v Vejle BK, 0-0 (0-0)
    Attendance: 8,840

No doubt a surprising but also well deserved point to the visitors from Vejle... or should I say "Aalborg II", since Vejle got no less than 6 former Aalborg regulars in their team, so perhaps it's not really that surprising that they really "show up" and feel at "home" when playing in Aalborg. In any case, it was once againg Rasmus Würtz and the highly talented Brian Nielsen showing their worth for Vejle. Though their should be some special praise to the very young vejle defender Marc Pedersen who has really impressed in the Superlig so far. As for the home team, then they were quite a disappointment in this match, except perhaps for the last 5 minutes or so, when they mangaged to create some big opportunities, but perhaps this was also due to the Vejle players running out of gas and getting a bit nervous in the end, which seem to be the usual Vejle problem when they otherwise are playing a very good match.

    Superliga 2008/09, round 27 (of 33) :

    AGF Aarhus v FC Nordsjælland, 1-0 (0-0)
    1-0 Jakob Poulsen (59)
    Attendance: 9,110

Parkhursts best Superliga performance so far was against Brøndby in round 26, but in this match he was more average, just like the rest of the FCN team did not impress. Jeremiah White on the other hand, was one of few players who really did an excellent job.

Read the match report in the Feilhaber and White at AGF Aarhus thread here :

    Brøndby IF v OB Odense, 0-0 (0-0)
    Attendance: 20,623

As the result also imply this was rather boring match. Odense seemed like they were happy to defend a 0-0 result and probably hope for a lucky-punch opportunity that never really came, while Brøndby also seemed to have too much respect for their opponents, so it all became very tactical. It was Brøndby producing the few real attempts in this match, but in all honesty both teams seemed too affraid of losing, so they settled for a draw that may end up handing the championship to an FCK team that was the real winner of this round 27.

    AC Horsens v FC København, 0-2 (0-2)
    0-1 Adam Eckersley (owngoal) (5)
    0-2 Ailton Almeida (38)
    Attendance: 4,838

Horsens are still in deep trouble at the bottom of the league and they were not able to do much harm to a strong looking FCK team and they were absolute defenseless against the brilliant solo-performance by FCKs Brazilian striker Ailton Almeida. His dazzling raid, excellent technique and dribbling skills left the defense and keeper behind before he scored an absolutely marvellous goal from an almost impossible angle. No doubt the best goal of this round and surely worth a watch... In any case, it seems that FCK are in great shape and heading straight for the championship

    AaB Aalborg v Randers FC, 1-2 (1-1)
    1-0 Thomas Augustinussen (25)
    1-1 Marc Nygaard (26)
    1-2 Bédi Buval (56)
    Attendance: 6,696

By the look of their results of lately, it could seem like the Aalborg players are thinking more about their Danish Cup semi-finals at the moment, no doubt because it's their last and only chance of playing in Europe next season, while Randers surely seem more motivated, according to themself because they want to finish ahead of league-rivals AGF in the table (Randers is very close to Aarhus).. and then of course they no doubt want Marc Nygaard to become league top scorer this season.

AaB captain Thomas Augustinussen perhaps scored his last league goal for his team, because the club has just (at his own request) sold him to Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg for around €1 million... It seems that he found it was time for him to move abroad and then ther is also more than a good chance that Salzburg will be playing CL qualifiers next season. Perhaps Augustinussen is only the first of a string of players leaving the club this summer. Luton Shelton is to return to Vålerenga at the end of his loan deal and So far Siyabonga Nomvethe and Steve Olfers have not been offered an extension of their contract, while several big foreign clubs seem to be interested in buying Michael Jakobsen, Thomas Enevoldsen and perhaps also Anders Due. So ther may be some heavy activity from Aalborg on the transfer market this summer, if they also are to find suitable replacements.

    Esbjerg fB v Vejle BK, 3-2 (3-1)
    0-1 Allan Gaarde (15)
    1-1 Mikkel Vendelbo (18)
    2-1 Samel Sabanovic (20)
    3-1 Samel Sabanovic (39)
    3-2 Chidi Dauda Omeje (78)
    Attendance: 9,147

When you look at the Vejle squad, they really should be too good and experienced to be in danger of relegation, but to be honest they make too many stupid defensive mistakes and just dont seem to show the right attitude and fighting spirit for a team that is fighting for survival... Perhaps the many fairly good "names" in this team are just not used to play at the bottom of the league and perhaps their long and fairly successful careers have made them lose the motivation you needed to fight in a relegation battle like this, because they surely dont seem hungry enough to win their games. They just seemed one step behind and only managed to add some excitement to the game at the end, because Esbjerg became too passive and defensive minded. If Vejle keep this up, they are surly going to suffer relegation, though they do have an easier path to survival than both Horsens and SønderjyskE, so ther is still some hope left for this Vejle team...

    Highlights:
    TV2 Sport
    ---

    FC Midtjylland v SønderjyskE, 2-4 (0-2)
    0-1 Rasmus Hansen (Pen.) (32)
    0-2 Ken Ilsø (35)
    1-2 Sölvi Ottesen (owngoal) (46)
    2-2 Mikkel Thygesen (65)
    2-3 Kenneth Fabricius (69)
    2-4 Rasmus Hansen (Pen.) (76)
    Attendance: 5,670

Unlike Vejle, then SønderjyskE know how to play like a team and put up a good fight. The question is more if they also got the depth and quality to escape relegation. In any case this away win was more than a huge surprise and also a huge morale booster just before SønderjyskE have to face Horsens in their next match, so it could hardly have come at a better time for them. FCM on the other hand look like they have already finished their season. Perhaps a bit to soon, because the 4th place could still end up earning them a place in the Europa cup if Aalborg slip up at home in the Cup Semi-finals... and both Randers and AGF are now suddenly dangerously close to FCM in the standings.

Danny Califf played the full 90 minutes for the home team, but probably want to forget this match as quickly as possible.

    Danish Cup 2008/09, Semi-finals :

    2nd leg :

FC København v Nordvest FC (4th level), 2-1 (agg: 6-1)
    0-1 Stefan Håkansson (1)
    1-1 Dame N´Doye (18)
    2-1 Morten Nordstrand (56)
    Attendance: 6,916

An excellent start by the visitors, though ther was never really any doubt about the final outcome of this tie. Though FCK were mainly using bench sitters and reserve team players, it was still a poor performance by the home team, when you consider they infact were fielding 9 players who has won international caps.

    Highlights :
    Onside TV

AaB Aalborg v Brøndby IF, 1-1 (agg: 4-4, AaB win on away goals)
    1-0 "Cacá" (60)
    1-1 Morten 'Duncan' Rasmussen (67)
    Attendance: 8,094

Though it was not quite as entertaining as the first leg, it was still big drama, when Aalborg managed to qualify for the Cup final by eliminating Brøndby on away goals. It was deserved that AaB took the lead, but after the Brøndby equalizer, the visitors completely dominated the match and wasted several huge opportunities and in the end both teams were perhaps not all too happy about the referee who probably should have sent off a Brøndby defender in the first 45 minutes, but then on the other hand also rather questionable ruled a Brøndby goal offside in injury-time. However, over two legs Aalborg still seemed to be the better side and deserve to be in the Cup final.

The Danish Cup final will be played on May 21st .

    Sigh...

BIF have got a tough run in with not too many games left at Vilfort Park, including the crucial derby against FCK at Parken. FCK haven't dropped points in a long time, so it'll be up to BIF to beat them. I can't imagine FCK doing anything else but playing for the draw in the derby or sitting back and letting BIF attack until they can hit them on the counter attack.

Last two matches have been poor for Brøndby. Ousman Jallow wasted chance upon chance against AaB. Thank God for Stephan Andersen.

I think the new Brøndby head coach is also to blame... He is know to be rather cautious and defensive minded, which I think really showed in the match against Odense... This may be very good tactics when your coaching a small team like Horsens, but you cant win a Danish Championship by being cautious at home...

Ceres, first of all I want to write that , thanks to you I am following the danish league with great interest. My favourite team is Ålborg. I just wanted to know if the rumours that Bengtsson in Trelleborg is on his way to Ålborg are realistic!?

He is considered as one of the biggest defensive talents at the moment in Allsvenskan. It would be right if he goes to the stronger danish league. He deserves it.

Yes, it could seem so according to his agent, perhaps it's AaBs new Swedish coach Magnus Pehrsson who want him to Aalborg.....though it could of course also be so that his agent is just using this "rumour" so he can get a better contract for Bengtsson at Trelleborg, or perhaps to create more interest from other clubs abroad. We often see agents make up rumours about FCK this way... and after their good run in Europe this season, I would not be surprised if Aalborg is going to be used the same way this summer.

    Sounds very reasonable, indeed.

I am in full admiration for the danish league. The concept is perfect. A good product for the crowds and the tv-audiances. Swedish-club football will never reach those heights, I have learned to understand. Just looking at clubs like BP and Häcken and Trelleborg for.ex. makes one understand this fact. Seeing those mediocre arenas. Seeing that gravel-pitch at Brommapojkarna. Despite being a swede, I am starting to follow the danish league just as much as the swedish. The danes have many factual advantages compared to the swedish situation. One of many, not mensioned is the close proximity of the clubs in the SAS-liga f.ex. The climate, the quality of the pitches, the professionality of the clubs, the arenas and the hard-core supportership are other reasons why the danish shows the way.

    Dejligt Danmark! Och Heja Ålborg!

I've read that one of the reasons for the Danish league's success in comparison to the other Scandinavian leagues is due to favourable taxes for the footballers compared to other Scandinavian countries. Is this true? I have to say, I'm sure the milder weather must be a factor, as ifkgötet mentioned.

I quite like following this league as in recent years it hasn't been just all FCK or BIF, unlike some smaller countries. Glad to see Norway finally breakaway from the all RBK all the time show.

Swedish clubs did well in Europe in the 70's and 80's, but while Brøndby were the first Scandinavian club to turn full-time professional and Rosenborg in Norway also chose to follow suit, then it was like the Swedish club management did not really want this change and I guess this is why they now are this far behind and losing not only their their best but also their second best players to foreign clubs.

The past 3-4 years the Danish league clubs have turned more and more professional, no doubt because the huge financial progress of FCK has forced the other clubs in the league to do their best to catch up, which has created a domino effect that has made the league better from top to bottom... and because it's now a better and more professional "product", the Superliga has also secured a much bigger TV deal.

You can see the financial progress here :
    https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=15272546&postcount=58
    and
    https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=17302650&postcount=77

It should be said, that it (on average) of course financially is an advantage to be a small 12 team league in compare to a 16 or 18 team league..

I think the average wage level in the Danish league is just about the same level as in Norway, but around twice as high in compare with Sweden, which of course has much to do with the Danish league TV deal being much bigger than the TV deals in the other Scandinavian countries..

As for the income taxes, then foreign players can chose to either pay 25% income taxes the first 3 years, or 33% the first 5 years they stay in Denmark... In comparison, you probably pay around 50% in Sweden, while the Norwegians also have some favorable taxes, but only the first 6 month, so they usually pay bigger sign-on fees.

In any case, most Danish top clubs pay NET wages after taxes, so that foreigners do not have to worry about income taxes and since the taxes are lower the first 3 to 5 years, the NET wages are of course higher in compare with Norway.

Correct. Ceres. Swedish players have a taxation of around 50 %. The only club in Sweden doing a decent job with the finances is Malmö. Although most of their financial success has a lot do with them selling talents to reasonable costs.

On another note. Why swedish clubs don´t make it in Europe? Well, one important reason is that we have differnet teams representing each year. No continuation there. We need better top-teams to begin with. It´s all a complete mess. It makes me sad alltogether as we actually have some clubs that have huge potential. IFK Göteborg, Malmö,Helsingborg,AIK,Djurgården,Hammarby,Elfsborg to name a few.

One team in Denmark that ought to be stronger msut be Odense. Big town. Århus have huge potential. Ålborg are doing roughly what can be expected, I guess. I hope you understand my frustration though, if you look at all those swedish clubs I mentioned.:(

AGF Aarhus and Brøndby used to be the big rivals in the league in the 80's an 90's, but all turned wrong for AGF because of bad management and the Bosman ruling in the 90's... around that time AGF lost some very big names on free transfers and never really managed to recover... Århus is the 2nd largest city in Denmark and AGF got the 3rd largest stadium and 3rd largest average attendance at the games (behind FCK and Brøndby), so they of course also have the biggest unfulfilled potential in the league...

No reason to renovate the stadium as such (it's an all-seater and not really that old), but ther has been plenty of talk about removing the track... Unfortunately AGF do not own the stadium (they are only leasing it), so they are not able make this kind of change. But if they were able, it would add another 10,000 seats to the 20,000 they already got..

    Superliga 2008/09, round 28 (of 33) :

Team of the week according to Danish TV 2 Sport :
    http://jp.dk/jptv/sport/article1683347.ece

Ousted (SønderjyskE) - Helveg (OB), Schlebrügge (Brøndby), Håland (OB), Frederiksen (Randers) - Berg (Randers), Bernier (FCN), Ken Ilsø (SønderjyskE), Absalonsen (OB) - Utaka (OB), Ailton (FCK).
    ---

Goals of round 28 (not including OB vs. AGF) :
    http://jp.dk/jptv/sport/article1683355.ece

    FC Nordsjælland v FC Midtjylland, 0-2 (0-0)
    0-1 Frank Kristensen (58)
    0-2 Frank Kristensen (69)
    Attendance: 3,717

The first 55 minutes or so was totally dominated by the home team, but when FCN failed to make use of their big opportunities they were punished by the visitors who did not look good for most of this match, but were much more efficient when they got the chance... and perhaps this has been the real difference between the two teams this season. FCM just seem that bit more clever playing in defense and attack.

As for the Americans, it was no doubt Danny Califf who won this round against Parkhurst who didnt really impress for FCN in this match... Though they both played from start to finish..

    Highlights:

    FC København v AaB Aalborg, 3-0 (0-0)
    1-0 William Kvist Jørgensen (62)
    2-0 Zdenek Pospech (72)
    3-0 Morten Nordstrand (87)
    Attendance: 20,717

Since both teams are in the Danish Cup final, AaB are now sure to qualify for Europe if FCK win the Danish Championship, so to be honest the visitor were better served if they were to lose this match and though they still put up a fairly good fight for an hour or so, the home team just seemed to want this win more than an Aalborg team that missed a huge opportunity early in the second half, but otherwise produced little to nothing, in a match clearly dominated by FCK from start to finish. So a very deserved win to the home team... and though Ailton Almeida didnt get to score any brilliant "UEFA" goals this time, he did become man-of-the-match and made two excellent assists in this match as you can see in the highlights below... Only 5 rounds left to play and it looks good for FCK at the top of the table, but they still got a pretty tough schedule, so I'm sure noting is setteled before they have faced Odense away and Brøndby at home in round 30 and 31.

    Highlights:
    TV2 Sport

    Vejle v Brøndby IF, 1-3 (1-1)
    1-0 Brian Nielsen (3)
    1-1 Max von Schlebrügge (12)
    1-2 Alexander Farnerud (67)
    1-3 Alexander Farnerud (76)
    Attendance: 6,804

Good start by start by Vejle and not surprisingly a goal by the young talented Brian Nielsen, but Brøndby were quick to reply and in the end secure all three points, especially thanks to a well playing Alexander Farnerud. Once again it was not really that great a performance by Brøndby, but they got the job done, while you could say the opposite about Vejle. They just make too many stupid defensive mistakes and still dont seem to work well as a team. Vejle are now in real trouble at the very bottom of the league, but they could still turn this around, since they face SønderjyskE away and Horsens at home in the next two very decisive rounds to come. Though Vejle now got a fairly easy schedule, these next two games is no doubt their last chance of survival and they may need to win both games... They surely cant afford to lose.

    Highlights:
    JP TV or TV2 Sport
    ---

    SønderjyskE v AC Horsens, 2-0 (0-0)
    1-0 Ken Ilsø (62)
    2-0 Kenneth Fabricius (70)
    Attendance: 3,846

A few weeks ago SønderjyskE had only won 3 games all season and seemed to be heading straight for relegation, but with two straight wins in a row, they now surprisingly find themselves above the relegation line and once again it was their young playmaker Ken Ilsø who was the architect behind this win by scoring an excellent goal and making the assist for their 2nd goal.... Otherwise it was a rather poorly played match dominated by a toothless looking Horsens team, that is, until the goal by Ken Ilsø who really made all the differernce for SønderjyskE in this match and showed why he is one of the big transfer prospects in the league this summer. No matter how poor his team is playing, he always seem to play at a consistent high level and add that extra bit of quality... Being two goals up, SønderjyskE were able to do what they do best, which is very tough physical duels in midfield, to keep down the pace and simply prevent their opponents from playing their usual game. So in the end it was a deserved win to the home team... Next match for SønderjyskE is also at home... against Vejle... Which is going to be more bad news for Horsens no matter who get the points in that match....

    Randers FC v Esbjerg fB, 1-0 (0-0)
    1-0 Ricki Olsen (77)
    Attendance: 5,357

Nothing much to say, except that this was a very poor played match, but Randers managed to continue their winning streak (now 5 wins in a row), while Esbjerg could still get in trouble at the bottom of the league, especially since their remaining schedule look quite difficult.

    Highlights:

    OB Odense v AGF Aarhus, 6-1 (3-1)
    1-0 Peter Utaka (15)

Next game for AGF is away against AaB Aalborg, while Odense is playing away agains a Randers team that has won their past 5 games in a row, so this could be a difficult test, but then AGF had also won 3 games in a row before they were run over by a very strong looking Odense team...

Danish ESM* TIPS-Bladet have made a list of who they think are the best/most talented of the new Danish Superliga players this season :

Top 10 new Danish Superliga players this season :

22-yo Left back/forward, Patrick Kristensen (AaB Aalborg)
21-yo centre back, Lasse Nielsen (AaB Aalborg)
19-yo right back/winger, Daniel Wass (Brøndby IF)
25-yo attacking midfielder, Michael Krohn-Dehli (Brøndby IF)
19-yo defensive midfielder, Mads Albæk (FC Midtjylland)
19-yo defensive midfielder, Kasper Povlsen (AGF Aarhus)
21-yo centre and Left back, Kevin Conboy (Esbjerg)
21-yo right winger, Mikkel Vendelbo (Esbjerg)
22-yo left/right winger, Brian Nielsen (Vejle BK)
22-yo attacking midfielder/forward, Ken Ilsø (SønderjyskE)

Of the players above, then Ken Ilsø is probably the most likely to be sold in this summer transfer window. As I have written before in my match reports, then he has just been an excellent playmaker and playing at a consistent high level for an otherwise rather poor SønderjyskE team.... According to the now former Brøndby manager and long-time youth academy coach Tom Køhlert, who has developed most of the Brøndby Stars of the past, then Daniel Wass is going to be Brøndbys next big sale in the same class as a "Daniel Agger".... Though he is only 19 Kasper Povlsen is now more or less a regular starter in central midfield for AGF. He has been very highly praised by the AGF director of Sport this season and is said to be the new "Stig Tøfting".

    Superliga 2008/09, round 29 (of 33) :

    AC Horsens v FC Midtjylland, 3-2 (0-2)
    0-1 Frank Kristensen (16)
    0-2 Mikkel Thygesen (45)
    1-2 Besart Berisha (47)
1-3 George Mihai Florescu (pen.) (54)
    2-3 Gilberto Macena (64)
    Attendance: 2,905

FCM have lost more away games than they have managed to win this season, so this was actually a fairly good opportunity for Horsens to get points. Unfortunately for the home team they seemed too scared and nervous from start, probably thinking of how close they now are to relegation. so the first 45 minutes was dominated by the visitors. However, knowing that they were 2 goals behind at half-time and that they now really had nothing more to lose in this match, the Horsens players finally woke up and did their best, trying turn this around in the last 45 minutes. Though despite a nice free kick goal by Besart Berisha, it was probably a little too late and Horsens now face a "win or die" away match against Vejle that they really can afford to lose. Danny Califf was serving a match ban in this round, so he did not get to play.

The remaining schedule for Horsens is (as written) away vs. Vejle in round 30, then away vs. AaB Aalborg, at home vs. FCN in round 32 and finally away vs. OB Odense in round 33.

    FC København v FC Nordsjælland, 3-1 (0-0)
    1-0 Morten Nordstand (51)

    2-1 Morten Nordstand (70)
    3-1 Ailton Almeida (81)

Ther had been an internal dispute at FCN before this match because FCN striker José Júnior (who is on loan from FCK) simply refused to show up, if he was not going to play from start against FCK. So the FCN head coach found no other option than to remove Júnior from the squad and tell him that he is finished at the club. In any case, the visitors still managed to hold FCK to a 0-0 result the first 45 minutes, which forced FCK coach Ståle Solbakken to make some changes at half-time, replacing César Sántin and Hjalte Nørregaard with Jesper Grønkjaer and Morten Nordstrand who may not be a regular starter but still is the FCK top scorer so far this season, which he also proved in this match by scoring twice. Also Grønkjaer got to show that he is still a top class player, while FCKs Brazilian striker Ailton Almeida once again managed to score a brilliant goal. He is really in top shape and has never looked better.... Parkhurst played all 90 minutes in central defense for FCN.

The next two rounds are really going to be decisive, since FCK face OB Odense away and Brøndby at home... As for the visitors, then FCN could still get in relegation trouble, especially since they face both SønderjyskE and Vejle at home and AC Horsens away in their next 3 rounds to come. It could hardly be a more nerve-wracking schedule and finish to this season.

    SønderjyskE v Vejle, 0-0 (0-0)
    Attendance: 5,511

As you can see in the extra "highlights" below, ther had been some trouble at the vejle training between keeper Jimmy Nielsen and Italian/Swedish Valentino Lai before this highly important match that on the other hand turned out quite as expected. It was a rater low paced tactical fight and not entertaining to watch, no doubt because SønderjyskE were more interested in holding Vejle to a draw and keeping their 3 point lead, rather than taking any risks, just as vejle also took a rather cautious approach.... Too cautious you could say, because they are running out of games, but they could not afford to lose this one and they now need to win at home aganst Horsens in their next match. The match was really not worth a match report and the few opportuntities are all included in the highlights below.

    Randers FC v OB Odense, 0-0 (0-0)
    Attendance: 6,219

Dont be fooled by the 0-0 result, because this was a highly entertaining and well played match and as you can see in the highlights below it was a small miracle that no goals were scored... or perhaps I should rather say that it was due to some poor refereeing and also excellent goalkeeping by both Kevin Stuhr Ellegaard and Arek Onyszko. Randers were dominating and the better playing team, with especially Tobias Grahn looking good, but it was the Odense players who looked a bit sharper in attack, so perhaps the final result was fair. As written, then the refereeing was plain awful, but as the highlights below also imply, then both teams were more or less equally "robbed" by the referee. Odense forward Peter Utaka had scored 6 goals in the last 4 games, but he did not look too good in this match and was replaced in the 76th minute, not that it made much of a difference for the visitors. OB Odense are now 6 points behind FCK in the table, with only 4 rounds left, so it seems that this result was probably the end of OB hope of winning the Danish Championship this season, though they do face FCK at home in the next round and then have a fairly easy schedule, facing SønderjyskE, FC Midtjylland (who has nothing to play for) and finally AC Horsens. So if Odense manage to beat FCK and FCK also lose in round 31 to Brøndby, then they still have a chance.

Team of the week according to Danish TV 2 Sport :
    http://jp.dk/jptv/sport/article1689649.ece

Onyszko (OB) - Pospech (FCK), Thomassen (AGF), Schlebrügge (Brøndby), Frederiksen (Randers) - Berg (Randers), Thygesen (FCM), Grahn (Randers), Poulsen (AGF) - Ailton (FCK), Farnerud (Brøndby).

Jesper Jørgensen, Esbjerg miss penalty (47)
    1-2 Jesper Lange (71)
    Attendance: 10,075

Brøndby were perhaps a bit lucky to escape with all 3 points in this away match in Esbjerg, but I doubt they care all too much about if they are lucky or not as long as they are able to get the poinst they need to stay in the fight for the Championship. However, they do have a fairly tough match schedule. First they have to face a well playing Randers team, then league leaders FCK at home. In round 32 they face AGF in Aarhus and then in the final round FC Midtjylland at home... Btw, Randers midfielder Jesper Jørgensen who missed a penalty for the home team in this match, is now being rumoured to Brøndby as the replacement for the Icelandic midfielder Stefán Gíslason, who perhaps is leaving Brøndby in this summer transfer window.

After this match the Aalborg director of Sport said to TV2 Sport that they at the moment are trying sign a defender (most likely a centre back) and two central midfielders from the Norwegian and Swedish league.... Though he would not reveal who it is they are trying to get, it seems that one of the players is the Halmstads BK midfielder Andreas Johansson, who I suppose is to replace Thomas Augustinussen who has been sold to Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg for €1 million.

    FC Nordsjælland v SønderjyskE, 0-0 (0-0)
    Attendance: 3,678

Parkhurst did a very good job, but otherwise ther is so little positive to say about this match, that it doesnt really deserve a match report, but SønderjyskE no doubt got exactly what they came for, while FCN really cant be happy about this result... FCN are still in danger of relegation, though a draw at home against Vejle in the next round should be enough to fix the problem. But if they lose, they could be in all kinds of trouble because they then face Horsens away... SønderjyskE are putting up a good fight and have done better than expected of lately, perhaps because their style of play and fighting spirit is well suited for this kind of games at the bottom of the league, but it will probably not help them in their next match against OB Odense.

FCN top scorer Martin Bernburg now finally seem to be moving abroad in this summer transfer window. He wants to leave and since his contract is going to expire in the winter, this is the absolute last chance for FCN to make a profit.

    1-0 Martin Borre (36)
    1-1 Gilberto Macena (51)
    Attendance: 8,725

The bottom clash between Vejle and Horsens was much more high paced and entertaining than the FCN vs. SønderjyskE game. It was Horsens dominating from start against a very nervous looking Vejle team, but the Horsens players misused their opportunities, so the Vejle players woke up and slowly managed to take charge of the match as it progressed. Unfortunately for the home team, it was business as usual, not being able to keep a lead, though it was Vejle producing the big opportunites in the last 45 minutes, except for the goal by Gilberto. But Horsens was saved by some excellent goalkeeping.. or saved is perhaps too big a word, because neither Horsens or Vejle can be happy about this result. In all honesty both teams are too good to play Danish 2nd level next season, but they now both may end up getting relegated..

    3-2 Martin Vingaard (83)
    Attendance: 15,486

Surely the best Superliga match so far this season. It was simply quality in all aspects of the game and was all that you could expect from a top clash like this... and it was also a well deserved win for a home team that were in charge and dominated, except for the last 10 minutes or so. Though I'm sure the FCK players felt robbed by the referee, not getting a penalty. But it doesnt change the fact that OB Odense were the better team and deserved the win and that especially Demba-Nyrén impressed and was selected as man-of-the-match. Odense may still be 3 points behind, but the next match for FCK is at home against Brøndby, so the battle for the Danish Championship and Silver medals could hardly get more intense...

OB Odense still need for Brøndby and FCK to slip up, if they are to win the Championship this season, but they have the ambition to pick up two Danish Championships before 2014, so they will now be looking for even better players in this summer transfer window.

    - "We are going to be active on the transfer market this summer, and it's quite unthinkable that we do not buy more [players] than we are going to sell.... If we want progress further, we also need to look at a higher class [of players], so we are going after players who are able to reinforce the team here and now. Some may say; ‘now you must sign a real Star player’. Yes, if it's possible and if the price is right." OB Odense Director Kim Brink said to B.T. (newspaper)

Though Kim Brink admit that that they are trailing behind FCK and Brøndby when it comes to the size of their wage budget, but since they are already sure to play in Europe next season, they hope this will help to bring in the right players.

According to the Swedish newspaper Expressen, then FC København are btw now looking at the Swedish U21 International Emil Johansson from Swedish side Hammarby.

    1-0 Samuel Holmén (28)
    2-0 Alexander Farnerud (48)
    3-0 Morten "Duncan" Rasmussen (87)
    Attendance: 17,206

Randers had picked up 16 points in their last 6 league games, but they were no real threat to Brøndby in this match. Infact they did not manage to produce a single attempt on target in the first 45 minutes. But then Brøndby were no doubt also highly motivated by the fact that FCK lost in Odense. Alexander Farnerud has had some trouble adjusting to a new country and league, but of lately he has really been in top shape and also was able to shine in this match, just as Michael Krohn-Dehli looked great against Randers.... Brøndby have now taken the lead in the fight for the danish Championship, but they are now to face FCK in their next match...

As it is the case with Odense, then Brøndby are also looking for reinforcements in this Summer transfer window... or more correctly, they now seem to be looking for some younger squad players and then a real Star player who is better than the rest and really is able to take Brøndby to a higher international level. They no doubt got the $$, but the question is who they will be able to sign... Perhaps the financial crisis in the rest of Europe will help them on their way....

    1-0 Mikkel Thygesen (24)
    1-1 Thomas Augustinussen (29)
    2-1 Jonas Borring (65)
    Attendance: 6,590

The Aalborg players have looked mentally worn out by the many important games they have played this season and it was no different in this match, though FCM of lately have not been looking too great either and this match became very tactical and boring. But the home team managed to secure a win, especially thanks to a very well playing Christian Sivebæk, who later was picked as man-of-the-match. The young talented winger, who is the son of former Danish international John Sivebæk, has really impressed for FCM of lately and he also secured the win in this match by making the assist for the last FCM goal by Jonas Borring, as you can see in the highlights below...

According to Swedish reports, then Hammarby central midfielder Louay "Lolo" Chanko seem to be on his way to join Aalborg... The AaB director of football has said that they are most likely going to sign two central midfielders and one defender from the Swedish and Norwegian league.

Horrendous performance and even worse than I could have even feared by BIF in the derby. Yikes, what the **** was the backline doing all match long? Sad, just sad.
