I sent it in, but be sure to ask him what went on between him and Tino during the game.

I don't know. Ray's overall assesment of the team sounds somewhat akin to some of my posts recently. Interesting.

I'm damned glad to hear someone say this team isn't where it really ought to be. And it's even better when that someone is Hudson.

But did you hear him dancing around the issue of whether he wants to come back next year? Sounds like there's something going on behind the scenes that he's not too happy about.

I'm sure Stoichkov will be delighted to have had news of his chronic body odour problem aired on radio. Yet another point to add to his long list of charms and attractions.

I'm just guessing (that's what BS is for, right?), but maybe Hudson will only return if Etch retires. I can't believe any coach would focus the team around Etch at this point w/o being forced.

I've been saying this for quite some time.. Being close to the team in a journalistic fashion, I obviously can't indulge in what the real root of the problem is but there is definitely something to what you are saying above and it is a big reason why Hudson can't commit one way or the other at this time..

Costa Rica is gonna fire Sampson, and Payne wants him. Only feasible alternative.

Or maybe Rongen makes his triumphant return.

If Hudson goes and Etch stays I will be very very upset, to the point where I will not get season tickets next season.

Oh wait, I live to far away to buy season tickets anyway.

....Sampson as coach??? So we'll have a great first month next season, make the playoffs, then the night before the first postseason, the whole team will be dropped for the AU reserve team...can't wait

THen why say anything at all?

What good does coming on here and telling us you know something but can't tell us do?

And, isn't the access that you say you have supposed to be so that you can get information and tell it to the public? If not, why have the access? The free food and seats in the press box?

If that happens, do we have to take Harkes' name down?

    Excellent point, Sandon.

As you could probably guess, there are dozens of people with press credentials at every match who are there only for the free food, great seat and access to their beloved players while masquerading as members of the press.

Some day, MLS will weed out the freeloaders.

  18. Isn't Etch's contract up this year?

Unless he wants to play for peanuts next year, I can't imagine anyone wanting to pay him league max..

    At least I hope not!

That'll be the same day the Post gets rid of the vast majority its political reporters, who have been shown over the past year to be nothing more than stenographers to the powerful. At least now I know the sports section has journalistic integrity! (Wilbon excepted, of course.)

Wait, there was free food? I could have been using my Gazette pass for free food, and there I was paying for Ramen like a sucker.

    Damnit.

To address Sandon's point from a different angle, there may be a number of reasons a journalist doesn't straightaway divulge what he or she hears from club sources. First, they might learn something "off the record", which means that if they made it public, their source would be unlilkley to give them information again. And if they made that information public without naming the source, people would quite rightly demand to know where they heard this from.

Second, just because a source tells you something does not mean its true. A soccer club is as full of as many intrigues as Capitol Hill. There are just as many rumors, threads of disinformation (something all message board users can surely relate to), vested interests and strategic leakings as in a political party, and journalists are wary of being used to stain someone's character or set a suggestive story in motion. So just because a journalist hears something, it does not follow he or she is automatically obliged to release it to the public, or would deem it judicious to do so.

Mind you, I never hear jackshit in the press room. I'm too busy gorging on the seven course gourmet banquet the club lays on while quaffing champagne and reading up on the stats sheets. Also, I wish cweedchop would introduce himself. I get the feeling we must have walked past each other many times, probably concealed by the smoke of our complimentary cigars.

So walking around saying "I know something you don't know" is good journalistic practice in your mind?

MOD NOTE: Last year we got to witness a lovely "I'm a journalist" "No, I'm a journalist" battle and I would recommend that this does not happen again. On the DC Boards, most of us appreciate the effort of both the professional and amateur journalists - if there are rivalries between the two groups or between individuals - please do us all a favor and don't discuss them here. They belittle all the good work that each and everyone of you do and reduce the poster's credibility.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and thank you for all your hard work to help keep us the "internet nuts" informed about the doings at DC United.
