1-0 Red Stars HT. I thought the Freedom played the better half but Chicago got stronger and stronger as they settled in.
Chicago got the goal..good goal by Tarps but bad goalkeeping by Scurry. Her angles were off. Washington should have scored by now but they are to predictable..where is Sawa? & Carli Lloyd looks unfit. She is not a holding midfielder. What is Emma Hayes thinking! Dieke is a rock..comon Scotland.
is carli playing defensive mid? like a stopper? defense has never been her fortay, she looks lost. i think overall Chicago's fitness is excellent. tarp and Megan are all over. Chicago's problem seems to be inability to string together passes. Washington should be up but guess thats hoe cookie crumbles.
If Lloyd can settle the midfield the defense will look better by proxy, they have been over-employed. It was a well hit ball for the goal, it got up and down like a free kick going over a wall and dropping in. About 6 out of the 7 starting goalkeepers in this league may have gotten to it. ;>) According to FSC's graphic Ellen Weinberg is the lady announcer, Jen Hildreth had been doing these matches and she errored the other way by not asserting herself and getting very many words in, just lots of 'happy to be here' smiles. Wambach given an equal number of chances second half will score. Chicago should score again early if at all possible so that if Abbey does score it won't cost points. If they come out negative trying to protect the lead it could end up costing them.
This is much better than I thought. It looks like the teams need more time paying together, but the individuals are consistently better than I remember from the WUSA. Who else is excited about Karen Carney? Dieke, too. She's been solid.
I think chicago looked like they were running around like chickens with their head off. they may have been fast, but they were not playing well. my point was that washington's fitness went downhill as game went on.
Just a note Ostberg is Captain...when & why did that happen. It doesn't bother me whos captain but i thought it was Tarps.
What's to be assertive about? It's about the game, not about them. Who needs non stop words for the sake of it? There's only so many times you can hear "How about X? Isn't she tremendous?! How magnificent is this for the women's game? Isn't it such fun to be part of this?! How about that!" before you hit the mute button. She makes the guy seem knowledgeable and balanced.
That is certainly arguable. She's good, but lets wait until we've seen both a full season against the same competition. She really wasn't seriously tested last week. Well, that wasn't her fault, but maybe offsides? Pretty close.
