:) That has put me in a good mood lol. It seems like the only teams that will be good enough to compete against us in 2010 are Spain, Germany, Netherlands and Brazil. Portugal will not qualify, Argentina are in shambles, as are France. It's looking good lol :)

I've got a feeling Argentina and France will still make it, and I try not to look to far ahead when it comes to England. However, it's nice to see the so called other big guns struggling, after all the flack we have had to put up with over the last couple of years.

Yeah. Also I hear that Spain aren't playing that well either, the other day they got a flukey win over Turkey with a late goal, and today they played Turkey again and came from behind and didn't play too well I gather :) I won't get too complacent though lol as we are talking about England :p

Too early, just for example 1994 Brazil almost didn't qualify, if they didn't beat Urguay in the last game, Urguay would've gone instead of them. They won that tournament of course. That year Argentina lost 5-0 to Columbia at home in their last game, which meant they almost didn't qualify too (in the tournament they were okay, but went out in the 2nd round.

And of course in the run-up to the 2002 World Cup England beat Germany 5-1 in Germany, but Germany still mad ethe WC final.

Many times strong qualifiers have flopped and weak qualifieers suceeded - so I'm not counting England's chickens jsut yet.

We didn't play that well at times but the three points is all that matters.
It was a nervy game and I was impressed with a few of Ukraine's players who I haven't seen much of before.

I like Crouch but he can't play from the start in games against the top teams.
He took his goal well tonight but he makes defending easier for the top defenders as they don't have to worry about pace at all.
He's very good for set pieces and a good option from the bench but we need someone playing their that will get the best out of Rooney.
    That isn't Crouch.

Game should have been 1-1. We played so bad it looked like we took you guys down with us  End of the day, you had more quality and you found a way to win, good job. Now please spank Croatia again and have the group wrapped up before your trip to Ukraine in October....please :D

I'd imagine Capello will start him on the right rather than Lennon but I might be wrong.

We were missing Milevsky too, it is what it is. You serously going to play the Eduardo card, man?!? That dark coating of skin..you sure he's Croatian?? lol.

If we take a point in Zagreb we will have the advantage. You are 3 pts up and we have a game in hand. You've already played Andorra twice, we haven't even played them...

LONDON (AP)—He says he’s taken enough flak for making his NCAA college basketball selections, so President Barack Obama says he’s not about to wade into European soccer—or, as he correctly called it in London, “football.”
He was asked at a news conference Wednesday with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown whether he had a “good luck message” for the team from England, which is playing Ukraine later in the day in a World Cup qualifying match.
Obama says his college basketball predictions, in which he envisioned North Carolina taking the championship, caused “all kinds of controversy.”
And he says although he “didn’t get a briefing” on it, he knows it would “be a mistake” to offer his views on soccer.

Why would England need a good luck message to beat WCQ minnows Ukraine?

Ukraine are certainly not a "minnow", they are ranked 14th in the world just behind France and the Czech Republic and ahead of the USA, are usually decent and have been on a strong run of form.

This is the only qualifying group in Europe to have 3 teams in the top 20 world rankings. Yet here we are with a 100% win record.

But then this is from the nobsack FootballFanUsa who kept giving it the big mouth before the England - Germany friendly about how brilliant Germany are and how they were going to win. Mysteriously quiet after that game.

Agreed. Crouch doesn't have the physical strength to hold the ball up a la Heskey or Agbonlahor. Nor, as you mention, does he have the pace to trouble defenders. Basically, he's not the player to partner Rooney. He has a surprisingly good touch for a big man though :p

I do not wish to troll or rain on anyone's parade but I do not think you guys will be able to maintain that 100% record throughout.

We don't need to. Hopefully the main damage has been done.

Job done. 5 wins on the spin. We have now played all the other teams in the Group and defeated them. From this position we should go on and qualify. Hopefully we can win our next games and qualify at the soonest possible opportunity. This would then give us the opportunity to try out fringe players in actual competitive matches without consequence of losing/dropping pts. Next up is Andorra so there should be a few goals in that match.

Yeah, I hope David James improves by that point. He won't be able to cope with what the Andorrans have for him.

Who exactly is going to stop us?

    Kazaks away
    Andorra home
    Croatia home
    Belarus home
    Ukraine away

All teams we've dominated and beaten already.

Ukraine away certainly is a game we would be expected to win. I think going by the Ukranian forum your fans seem to have not realised or are unwilling to accept the reality that England won this game playing well below full effort. At 1-0 and in the 2nd half our players took their foot off the gas knowing Ukraine lacked quality and there are big champions league and title matches to be played.

Away from home it will be even easier with the players greater focus as shown by the away record, as well as Ukraine having to come out and play for points at that stage rather than stifle, while England can just counter attack at pace. Chances are Walcott and Heskey will be fit for that game as well which will make a better team shape.

We're already halfway there but by the same token we're only halfway there. Getting 100% record is very tough in any WC qualifying group in the world. We're at the halfway stage and we've already played what is on paper our toughest game, but only takes a bit of bad luck/one particualrly bad perfomance/one particualrly good perfomance from the oppostion and we drop a few points. Way too early for me to talk about qualifiying with a 100% record.
