It's more than time for a new thread, no?

And to kick it off, let's look back some of the original announcement in the news:

2000: Metrostars Will Have New Home

    Seems like 40 - 60 was Nicky's favorite number.

I'll hop on board the new train.

    Shouldn't this be STICKY'd now?

    Yay. Um. RBA looks good.

We still need a webcam inside though.

^^^ Please dont do that again J1M. That just left a horrible taste in my mouth.

BTW Kahlava RBR said a few weeks ago they are working on an inside camera. So hopefully we will see one soon.

Wow! Red Bull Arena will open ONLY 10 years after the announcement by Nicky Sak. Also, it will open ONLY 7 years after it was originally slated to be completed. Now, when was that Philly (Chester) stadium announced?

Then again, let's remember that this:

but to add to this post, here is the first few months worth of my time lapse project:

it's now around 300+ or stills that runs about 35 seconds. I've cut down on taking screencaps though since most of the construction right now seems to be interior based and is not visible from the webcam. I'll be sure to pick up the slack once they start covering it with the exterior steel (?) and probably add an addendum when they put up the interior webcam

I was told during the tour that they are working on getting a webcam inside. It's going to be up in the southeast corner, behind and to the right of the supporters sections. I also found out that there are two webcams where the one is we view now. The one we don't use has such high resolution, you could zoom in and clearly see the red bull logo on the hardhats we wore on the tour.

I drove by it last week. Looks sweet from the outside, sorta like that olympic stadium in China. But you can only see it going west on 280, not east, which blows. Guess they'll put up a tall sign to promote the team.

If they do, you should threaten to run your movie backwards and tear down the stadium.

After all this time I finally took a drive to see the construction site.

It looks great so far and looks much bigger than a 25K seater. Also I drove around the neighborhood and the stadium can be seen from many spots including a couple of bridges and a couple of major highways, always looking very imposing and impressive (much more than that crappy first design from years ago).

Also its very close to Ferry Street in the ironbound section of newark which has a huge Brazilian and Portuguese population. I can't see how the locals would not want to go to the games.

That said I for one have lost some interest in the club ever since it went from MetroStars to Red Bulls, I just have a hard time feeling loyal to a Soft Drink. But once the Stadium is ready I will definetly go to some games.

the fact that it's owned by an energy drink and based in NJ are two facts that test my fandom, but are quickly erased when i remember how it was the Red Bulls that drew me into MLS about 3 years ago. My only exposure to METRO was playing as them in FIFA. maybe in 4-5 years there'll be a queens based team that'll be much more easily accesible to me, not named after a energy drink, and actually in NY, but F*** that. I'm NEVER turning my back on the team that got me hooked.

Scout. I had some of the same problems you've had when they bought the Metros. But the one thing that made me feel reasured was that the history of this club was intact. But before that was announced, I have to say that I had a heart to heart with Fina. He does give good advice. Both of those things kept my loyalties with Metro/RBNY. Let's also be realistic here as well. Between Stubotnic/Kluge, & AEG. They never cared about our club. The only thing AEG did that I thank them for was keeping the league afloat and our club working. But RBNY has shown they care about the club & the league as well.

I understand that no one wants a corporation like Red Bull to plant their logo on a soccer shirt, but if Bayer asperin owns their Leverkusen club & Phillips owns their Eindhoven club, then I have no problem with Red Bull having our club.

Stubotnic/Kluge never had plans to build a stadium. AEG made designs, but never saw them through because of that idiot Zoffinger blocking anything Anschtuz name was attached to & Red Bull purchasing the other 50% of the stadium construction from AEG to have a redesign to make it look like a real football stadium and not a multi-use facility like the Home Depot Center, I will take Red Bull right now.

Come back to us Scout. Red Bull in three years has done everything the right way.

Im sure I will get excited again when they move to Harrision. Also I didnt mention the fact that they still play at Giants stadium which is very depressing to see with football lines and all. I do catch them here and there and even took the time to take a drive to see the new stadium yesterday.

And Happy 100 years (tomorrow) to my hometown Club Sport Club Internacional of Brazil one of the greatest soccer clubs in the world and great producer of soccer talent.

Just a bit of encouragement for the few who might still need it. I was out at Liberty Stadium in Swansea, Wales a couple of weekends ago. Pictures make it look pretty small, but even at 20,000 seats fully wrapped and a roof, its a sweet venue. 25,000 for you guys is going to be intimate, but it won't feel small by any stretch. And I guarantee that even half full, it will be loud. Swansea has a family section behind the south goal, so maybe only 10,000 of the 16,000 in attendance participated, and it was still a really good atmosphere.

I'm not going to single anyone out because it's an old argument.

But seriously, I find it funny that people can be so outraged that a club is owned by an energy soft drink company and so totally supportive of a clubs being owned by foreign oil barons. Some of whom have used their money and power to put themselves in political office and exploit the region they get their money. Others are just born into the exploitation.

In this day and age, it takes a lot of money to buy a sports franchise. I'd be careful about pointing fingers anywhere, because I'm sure most people that rich have distasteful money-making skeletons in their closets. My belief is that most people with that much money earn it the old fashion way: They steal it!:D

I have attended hundreds and hundreds of Marquette basketball games in Milwaukee's Bradley Center thoughout my life. With a swing of momentum or a spectacular play, the place shakes with noise.

After attending several Chicago Fire games, the sound and atmosphere just isn't the same.

The gaps in seating and lack of roof allow noise to float away. RBA's 360, covered seating is going to create an environment like no other soccer stadium in the US. Games will be very exciting and very loud. I live and go to school in Milwaukee, but can't wait to make it RBA as soon as possible.

I like the fact that on a good day the stadium will be filled, noisy and intimate. With a winning club and better digs, the Red Bulls would become one of the most exclusive tickets in the NYC area.

Quiet simply, RB have done much more than Metromedia or AEG ever did or would ever do. No RB=no stadium. It's as simple as that. This stadium would NEVER exist without Red Bull. Never.
