We had no real ambition after Luci's goal. We should have been up 3-0 at halftime. When the cracks developed in defense in the second half (mostly due to lack of concentration and risk-taking by Jakovic), it seemed contagious. Josh Wicks was mostly terrible, and shoulders most of the blame for the very soft goal conceded. All in all, two points dropped, we should have won this one easily. And Blanco, despite only being in a few minutes, managed to get one last lame dive in at RFK, although the ref failed to give him the deserved yellow.
I found it hilarious when Benny tells Blanco to get up off his poser ass. First time I have ever seen an air elbow knock a 165 lb man on his ass. ROTFL!!
Josh Wicks was responsible for their goal. If he'd have stayed on his line then no goal and we win. Of course Jakovic shouldn't play around with the ball in the defensive third. Jaime looked slow and disinterested. I hope Wallace and Pontius stay in the starting line-up when Fred and Tino get healthy. They actually bring energy and bite to the game. If only Pontius could've converted one of his two brilliant chances! And finally, Geiger was a joke. But isn't every MLS ref?
I would have been there but I definately can't afford a bout of pneumonia this early in the season. Watched the match on MLS.net,felt like turning down the volume because they were broadcasting P x P of the Chicago Radio Station that regularly covers the Fire Home Games. I agree with your analysis of Wicks poor excuse for off the line goaltending. He did not belong out of his box , Nyarko wuss lobs the ball and It beat him! Louis Crayton Where are you?
No! Louis Crayton is somewhere in the class of Donovan Ricketts when it comes to physical comedy! I suggest we all wear J.C. Penney neckties to the next game ...
If the team keeps playing with that sort of confidence and hunger, the results will eventually follow. I'm disappointed but not discouraged.
We were beating them like a rented mule in the first half IMHO... Yes, a game of two halves.... The goal was on Wicks, no doubt about it. Ben Olsen brings so much to this team, it can't be quantified. 2 points after two games is not that bad, considering.... And Blanco started on the bench. He's a cancer now. All that "I'm only here for another year...maybe not leaving MLS, but done in Chicago..." Classic. Oh, and the new beer concessions SUCK.
I thought we played reasonablely well. Had to get pissed at no-neck for hitting the deck so often. But Lt. Worf (Wickes? Wicks? Beer=Lazy), how can you go from butterfingers to an excellent diving save? Argh.
Zach Wells part II. Anyway, I think we might be looking at a 4-4-2 later in the season. Wallace looks more like a back than a midfielder. He's quick and can get up and down the field in a hurry, and he's strong in the air too for those crosses at the back post when defending. Or maybe put him back there instead of Burch if he could be comfortable in a back three. Leaves room for Fred/Q in his spot and fills one of our greatest need positions.
Picked up a point on the road where we haven't gotten one in a long time and didn't get torched by Chiatcago #10 like last year. I think we are definitely headed in the right direction. Only 90 more points at stake......
Dear DC United, Please remember that there are two 45 minute halves to a game. Just because you are ahead at the end of the first 45 minutes, does not mean that the game ends there. You still need to play for the 2nd 45 minutes - every last one of them. Luci, thank you for the goal. Well done sir. Still concerned about your hair. Benny, love you. Welcome back. I see the ref remembered you and gave you a yellow for old time's sake. Gomez, hi, you're in the game too, remember? Let's pick up the pace a bit, kthx? Still, all things considered, nice to be back at RFK for another season. Hugs and kisses, LBB
I don't think it was an air elbow. It was right in front of me. It really looked like Benny leveled him,
Raced back from the game to watch my TIVO'd WC Qualifier. We come back to tie and Landon is racing towards the goal and ----the recording stops. As for the better match tonight (DC vs. Chi). Here are some random thoughts: The goal was all on Wicks. Nyarko was being steered wide and away from the net. Had Wicks stood his ground he would have had the angle covered. Why did Chi keep Rolfe on the bench until deep in the second half? Has he been injured? (He only played 17 minutes in their first match.) He had two goal bound shots in the brief time he was on. Had he been on full time they might have won. McBride is amazing. He seems game fit at almost 37, and he did good things all night. Jakovic makes me nervous. Moreno was a non-factor. Gomez didn't do much more. Benny was my MOTM, closely followed by Namoff, who saved a potential goal with an incredible tackle after following his mark completely across the field. (He also had a very rare giveaway that could have been a goal but was skied over the bar, a la Pontius in the first half.) Bryan also cracked the hardest shot I have ever seen him hit. It missed the net, but still.....35-40 yards on a line. Wallace looked like he's settling in and picking up the pace of the pro game. Pontius was OK as well, despite missing from close in (his first shot; I don't blame him for kicking his second directly at the keeper, as it was a hard chance off a chest trap). When Fred and Q return, I would think Pontius could stay out wide, Wallace could drop back to left back over Burch, Fred at left wing, and Santino up front with (I guess) Emilio. Surprised to see Barklage on as a sub for Christian, but I guess Tommy thought he offered more offense than Jacobsen.
Agree on your first three points... But on the fourth, not so sure. Since I never left the Barra section to try the concessions, all I can say is that I very much appreciated that the beer man came through selling Heineken. So here was the choice: Bud Light for $7.00 or Heineken for $7.00? Not too difficult to decide.
