No way teams in Mexico should be in MLS due to them already having a strong league. I think the Champions League is a good way to integrate the two leagues. Maybe have an "interleague play" weekend where the games count. Canadian teams make sense. Mexico does not. Now adding Puerto Rico wouldn't be a bad idea...
Here's the logical response nobody seems to have come up with. Canada is a beautiful country where opposing teams can go to and feel safe. Mexico, on the other hand, is like our version of Pakistan. Opposing teams would go to play the Mexican side and their bus would be shot at by terrorists, probably trying to kidnapp them and hold them for ransom. Mexico is hell.
I'd imagine there are many Central American teams who would love to play in the MLS. Mexican teams I'm not so sure. Having said that I never thought any teams outside of the USA relocated to a different city but Atlante did just that a few years ago moving from Mexico City Estadio Azteca because its games there were not profitable. This was largely due to poor attendance at its home matches. They hoped that the move to Estadio Andrés Quintana Roo of Cancún, Quintana Roo, would grow back its popularity and improve attendance. Atlante began winning important matches, either at home or visiting. Either because of the move or whatever they gained by it in popularity, Atlante earned its third championship in its new home city, Cancún. That is unherd of anywhere else ouside North America. Usually teams either fold or go down a few diviisons but hardly ever move.
Yeah, because that exact thing has happened every time a US team has traveled to Mexico to play. Have you ever even been to Mexico?
I was making a joke about going and getting shot, kinda... As for ever being in Mexico, no, and I don't plan on ever going. A fellow employee went with his wife for a week and were robbed at gunpoint, so... yeah...
My sister was robbed at gunpoint at an ATM in the Cleveland suburbs, so... yeah... make sure you don't go there, too.
In 2001, late one night I got tired of a show that some folks I was traveling with were at. I went out to the curb and hopped in a green and white VW cab. He didn't speak English, and at the time I didn't speak Spanish. He took me where I wanted to go. 99.999% of the people on the planet are just trying to get through the day, make sure their kids are safe and fed. Yeah, there is crime and violence everywhere. A bit of street smarts and common sense goes a long way. On that same trip, I started to head to a local 24 hour market in the wee hours of the morning. Surveying a darkened block with folks hanging out between me and my destination, I decided to turn around and head back to the hotel. Where the characters in the shadows waiting to mug someone? Who knows, but being in an unfamiliar place, it wasn't worth it. And that unfamiliar place could be anywhere from East Durham to Chennai.
I actually view Cleveland as our Mexico City. So... yeah... Apart from being a shitty city, it's quite possibly the single most boring city I've ever been to. The Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame takes all of 3 hours to complete, and your left to search from landmarks from the Drew Carey Show, the city's one bright spot in its otherwise lame history. Cleveland's City Mottos: 'The mistake by the lake' and my personal favorite, (of the football team) 'If it's brown, flush it down'
Careful......Cardiff is the only team outside of England to ever win the FA Cup.....they were a regular participant in the top tier of English football (back when it was called the First Division) until the 60's....after some lean times they are gradually pulling themselves back up and will be in the EPL soon...with a new stadium!
Argentina and Uruguay have the very same relationship IF NOT A CLOSER ONE and they don't share a league.
Mexico will never have an MLS team. They would never want it. The USL outperforms our MLs teams in Concacaf champions play. The MexiMLS team would be seen as below second division. As for Argentina and uruguay having their own leagues, its because Argentina and uruguay are soccer mad. They can support major leagues of their own. There is no competition between sports in those countries. The US is soccer simmering. Just enough passion for the game to survive, but not enough to really make an impact. We "let" canada join our league because they make money and just about anything that makes money, FIFA will allow (provided they get their cut).
You do realize that the NFL is the only major "American" sports league that DOESN'T have a canadian team or two ... right ? It has zero to do with pride, that makes no sense at all.
Thats not a Canadian league, its a regional league in Southern Ontario, filled with ethnic clubs. Its is more like the National Premier Soccer League than a top flight league.
Dude...I barely come on BS anymore because twats like you bring up the same posts and make the same points months apart. Like the fact that i remember your board name and I have no idea who you are is kind of pathetic. Why do you think MLS will not expand to Mexico? Umm because they have their own league already....You were grilled about this point before....is your memory span that small. The Canadian league you talk about is not a professional league...it is semi-pro at best, Hense why the top Canadian Clubs play in the MLS and USL 1. And no we don't have enough pro teams to make up a competative league as has been mentioned 1000X already. Hopefully this will change one day but not today. If you really want a Mexican team in MLS than discuss the merits of getting one in...stop wineing about having Canadian teams in the league over a team that would never work out in Arizona (if I remember correctly). [end rant]
What are you this guys mother? Give it a rest. You sound like a know it all. Live and let live brother, live and let live.
No, but he's definately right about one thing, the TS is a retard who just keeps whining about the same thing.
Obviously we don't know eachother, but as mentioned below this OP brings up the same whiney shit every few months. People like him are the reason BS is not taken seriously, and I wish it wasn't the case for all our benefits. There is so much good footy knowledge/opinion that stay away from this board because they think it is a joke. Thats a misservices to us all IMO
