The race for a new stadium is not the only game in town looking for a few United fans to get involved.

For those of you not venturing out to the Left Coast for our season opener… the Outreach team has a perfect way to start to the day!

United for DC is asking for folks to help out at the SunTrust National Marathon this Saturday morning.

Program Coordinator, Kat Cheshire passes along the details:

To sign up you can drop a note directly to Kat with your shirt size.

or to make her life easier, just use the online volunteer registration form.

Sign up under United for DC, just click on the link for the station (#A13) and come join in the race day fun!

Can I ask them as they run by why anyone would do something as stupid as running almost 27 miles ... on purpose? ;)

As someone who has stood out in Nor'easters (twice) to watch DC United play I can say there is nothing wrong with doing something stupid on purpose! :p

I'll do my part by wearing my DCU jersey as I do 26.2...I know of at least one other runner who'll do the same.

Terrific! We'll make sure to cheer you guys on ESPECIALLY loudly!! We'll make you feel at home in the RFK environs...

We'll try to avoid throwing any smoke bombs on this particular occasion - how 'bout some confetti instead.

For those wondering, not only will the Metro be opening early (at 5am) on race day, but parking is also available at the stadium and the back entrance from 395 will be open.

If you're coming from 295 you might want to check this out.

For me it's the euphoric feeling sometimes known as the runner's high.

I find it a tremendous accomplishment to complete a marathon within a decade. I can understand though how you non-runners wonder about the allure of the running community. That friendly nod from a compatriot as you're plodding out to your car.

You just don't get my physique by not working on it! :)

That's why I smoke and drink - I can get the same feeling from climbing a flight of stairs :)

Then, other than the 7am - 11am time period, I thought this event might appeal directly to you!

    The enticement straight from Kat

No running required. Just good spirits ;)
