Where did they come up with 4 minutes of stoppage time? 1 goal scored (admittedly it was a penalty, so a bit of time there), No red cards, No major injuries, No fights... I don't see how they decided 4 minutes.
God Blanco is fun to watch. And even though it's early, I like what I saw from Ward. Way to start the season!
Thank goodness the ref made the right call and allowed 4 minutes of extra time! Blanco goal! Yes, I am full of crap, but if it allows the Fire a chance to rub salt in the wound of Dallas, so be it.
Ward looked good. I think he was a bit hesitant to get into the attack, but I think with a few games and some confidence he'll be good.
Beautiful shot by Blanco, clean finish by Mapp, clinical by McBride. Cooper was jealous of Danny Cepero. Ha. Strong in the midfield. Good subs. And early enough.
sweet goal. Sala wasnt ready at all, he was still settin up his wall. but a goal is a goal GO FIRE, great match. Mapp 1 goal McBride - pk Blanco - masterpeace in the 94th minute nyarko - he was all over the place tonight. soumare - great defense Busch - soo unlucky in the 9th minute.
Things I'm pleased with (In Order, with 1 being the thing I am most pleased about): 1) The result 2) Justin Mapp 3) Patrick Nyarko 4) Team speed 5) The goal posts Things I'm not pleased with (In order, with 1 being the thing I'm least pleased with: 1) Defensive organization 2) Marco Pappa's night 3) Logan Pause and and Patrick Nyarko having more turnovers than Ben Gordon and Larry Hughes ever managed 4) MLStv 5) That it's a whole week until the next game. All things considered, I think I'll take the three points and chalk all the problems up to first game jitters.
Whatever the reason, waaaaay too many giveaways. That is something that DH needs to drill on. A lot. But 3 points is 3 points.
Pretty happy with the result considering we never beat Dallas these days and it's always nice to start the season with a road win. I thought we played really well in the first half, aside from some bad giveaways. We had the majority of possession and dangerous chances. I think the poor (overall) 2nd half from us was due to both Dallas waking up after a bad 1st half and a big increase in sloppy play by us (primarily Pause, Nyarko, and Thorrington). We just couldn't hold possession and were lucky not to give up a couple goals. Some random thoughts: -Busch should've saved Cooper's long range shot, even if he was off his line. -Nyarko looked good, but made a few too many bad passes . . . I expect a good season from him based on both this game and his preseason play. -Someone needs to teach Thorrington how to slide tackle. Last year, it seemed he made one really dumb tackle every game or two and racked up a lot of yellow cards. He was even worse than last year tonight in that respect. -Tim Ward was impressive. I didn't notice any serious mistakes from him and he looked solid. -Our first win against Dallas since 2005 and first win in Dallas since 1999 . . . I'll take it.
And for my fellow crazy people who are convinced there's some conspiracy within the Chicago news against soccer: Channel 7 has the score and some quick highlights of the game along with other sports that don't matter like the Chicago Wolves and Golf. Channels 2, 5 and surprisingly 9 had nothing. Boycott them.
That goal by Cooper is inexcusable. Everyone drinks from the Busch coolaide around here but that definately showed his limitations. Guy just doesnt have the ideal height. Nice assist by Logan Pause on the Cooper goal. To bad he never passes to his own teamates with that kind of precision. Nyarko ...have got to find a way to keep this kid on the field. Tim Ward played well especially after i expected nothing from him. Hopefully this version of Mapp shows up to play this year and not the one who dissapears. Fire flank play was outstanding today. Defense was shaky and Busch just watched as 2 almost goals hit the post. Almost as bad a game as aginst Columbus. Where is Cervi?
