I just want to say that this game is freakin' hard!! I started out in Division IV. got promoted to Division III. Stayed there for 3 seasons. Then got relegated to Division IV. And I've been there ever since.

I have the hardest time managing my team. I need lots of great players and a $#!t load of cash and I'm having the hardest time getting either. I look at the teams in Division I and I can't even imagine how they got there let alone how they stay up there. It seems like every season teams improve their midfield and Divisions get harder to stay in. I get so fustrated some times I don't know whether I should just say to hell with this game or keep on playing because it's challenging. DAM!! DAM DAM DAM!!! !@$*%(( !@(!($)(( !$!%)(*$)!@

... sorry just had to get that out ;)

    Aw stick around...

You're addicted anyway. Beisdes, you'll really kick yourself if you leave and then decide to come back via Div V. :p

Is your team suited to one of the new tactics that will be implemented next season? Maybe appropriate use of one or more of those and your default tactics will get you 'back on top'.

Maybe I missed something. What are these new tactics?
And yes I agree with you Soccertes, Hattrick isn't easy and it takes way too much of my time...of course this is my last semester of college before I graduate so maybe I should be thankful I have so much time! I don't think I spend as much time as I need to in order to get good, but in a season or two I'm pretty sure I'll get promotion (wouldn't think it would be too hard in V. but my league seems tough). Good luck, and just in case you didn't notice, there is an "official" hattrick thread already in this forum ;)

    Re: Aw stick around...

I know I thought about that! I know if I leave I'll most likely be back a couple of months later in a worst position than I am now. I'm going to get fired from my job because of this game ;)

I just can't seem to find a winning formula. I'm not sure what is the best way to manage Training and the purchasing of players... and that's when purchasing is possible. Most players are so over priced. The entire player market is inflated. Players valued at $700K are going for $2 million +++. Nothing different from real life I guess.

I wonder the same thing, and I am in Division I. The top 4 clubs in the Major League are damn near untouchable at this moment. I spent 7 seasons getting to this level, and have currently gone 0-2-10 this season......my worst ever by far.

I'm gonna go back down to Division II, that's a certainty. The worry is, can I keep from getting relegated to Division III after another season??

The new tactics are gonna hurt me. I'm the player that most Hattrickers hate.......I got where I am due to training playmaking and buying playmakers without noticable secondary skills. I got out of D3 and then D2 because of my midfield.

Well, I'll tell you my long-term strategy, and we'll see whether it works or not.

I'm training forwards, running a 3-4-3. So it's the end of the season.

    (1) Sell my best forward. Ideally, he should be 23 and magnificent.

    (2) Use that money, plus whatever I made during the season, and buy the best midfielder in the world.

(2a) Or goalkeeper, I guess, but I bought a good 20 year old last year. He'll never get trained, but I don't mind having a brilliant keeper right now.

    (3) Use whatever money is left, and buy the best defenders and wingbacks in the world that I can afford - long-term isn't an issue, so I buy very old on defense.

    (4) Buy forward trainees.

    (5) Buy backups, especially on defense. Again, go extremely old. These are stopgap players, they don't need to be on the squad five seasons from now.

    (6) There is NO rule six.

    (7) Survive the next season. Pick out the two teams you think you're better than, and beat them home and away no matter what. Twelve points probably is borderline survival - and I might pick up a point or two as real teams PIC me, since I suck so much. Then, win my relegation game.

    (8) Upgrade again.

Right now, I'm a bad D2 team. Next year, I hope to buy a sexy midfielder, and be a decent D2 team. Promotion is a lot less likely than relegation, of course, but even if I get relegated, I should be able to use the money I made this year to build a team that can bounce right back up, or win a lot and stay marginally profitable.

This isn't as much help for the new guy, who also needs to build a stadium. But building a stadium to fit your fan base shouldn't eat up an entire year's profits...if it does, you probably built too big.

I must say I love Hattrick. This is my 5th season and I'm stuck in one of the toughest D.IV series (IV.57). Last week we were ranked # 20 by hattstats. The top IV teams in our series could compete in III easy if we didn't beat the living tar out of each other every week. Every season for the past four seasons that I've been in my series we've had to play a playoff. Each season due to low teamspirit at the end of the season the leader of our series looses.

I'm looking at hopefully winning the season next year as soon as I buy a Brilliant defender to up grade my D.

I'm not sure how the new tactics will work out...I too train playmaking, (my starters are a Outstanding Pmer/passable defending (21), Outstanding Pmer/inadequate scoring-passing (19), Formidable PMer/Inadequate passing-defending (19)),but as soon as I get my Brilliant defender I will have a pretty well rounded team. I'll probably continue to play the 3-5-2 on normal unless I start to take a beaten. However, I really don't believe that the new tactics are going to have that big of a deal in my series.

Yeah, like Ferris said, check out www.hattrick.org. Hattrick is an online soccer sim that has probably well over 50,000 teams from around the world.....including over 2,000 in the USA league spread out over 6 divisions. You create your team from scratch at the very bottom, and everything carries over season-to-season (which last 16 weeks).

I've played since May 2001 after reading about it on BigSoccer.com. My family hopes I break the addiction one of these days.........

One match Sunday to avoid relegation from 5 to 6. I've only been playing 3 weeks and I'm a nutcase.

Even if I win Sunday I have to play a qualification match.

If I go down to VI - should I sell my top players and try to build from scratch (keeping in mind I have basically 2 top players from this team I inherited).

Nah, I'm in VI and I'm profitable this season. You're going to be in a bot league, most likely, so you're going to beat the crap out of your competition. As a result, sponsor money and supporter numbers are going to skyrocket.

What I've done is invest a crapload of money into youth development and hire lots of assistant coaches. I'm finding my matches sell out, my sponsorship money is increasing dramatically, and I'm able to train young players who I can sell later on.
