    v

    Man City

    @ Anfield

    Sunday, 22 February, 2009

    Kick-off 15:00

Score are showing it live at 10:00am (only those supporters with strong hearts and good blood pressure should watch).

On mcfc web-site "...but Stephen is convinced that Liverpool's attacking approach could allow City plenty of chances."

Looks like we'll be going for counter-attacks and letting Liverpool play their type of game.

We should let them win, gives them a chance to win the premiership.

If I'm not mistaken Gerrard is going to be out for this game. I'll still be sweating bullets in this game. Maybe I should expect the worst because City usually end up proving me wrong...

i'm interested, but the way we've been playing, especially on the road, we'll probably get crushed...But as a supporter, I watch as many matches as I can, good, bad, or ugly(as we've seen lately) Lynne, the blood pressures ok for now:)
Also for our fellow American supporters the game is on fsc at 10 live as well.

Not a bad matchup City and their away woes and Liverpool's tendancy to throw away points at home make this an intriguing tie. However, I doubt that Hughes is going to throw this game. ;)

Starting with seven defensive-minded players, I hope the logic is there towards the end of the 90 minutes!! Everybody is a critic I know, but with a back four and De Jong, Kompany and Zabaleta in a three-man midfield it hardly screams creativity. The hope has to be is that we can quieten down Liverpool within the first half, not concede and grab something on the counterattack and exploit them that way. If we let a goal in within the first 20 minutes IMO that is us finished for the match, we've been abysmal defensively so I can understand the more cautious approach - just have to make sure it doesn't sacrifice the number of clear cut goalscoring opportunities.

Very good first half. We played excellent defense, and Steven ireland was amazing, he nearly got us one. I'll be very happy if we play like this in the second half and escape there with a point, or possibly even 3 if we can sneak one by them..

Yeah. I think the defense has been just good enough to keep it level. There have been a few times where we didn't clear all too well, but for the most part its been good. I feel like City's getting better as the match goes along, we started with almost no possesion time and by the end of the half we were at least controlling the ball for longer periods of time.

    Nice, Bellamy. 1-0 City.

Yeah I'm very happy with this performance. My heart was racing for all the right reasons:D Damn a win sure would have been nice though, but it was a great game. This was probably De Jong's best game so far with City.

Bittersweet, my friends. We held Liverpool and handed Man U the league but alas, we must play for our own results.

EPIC performance by Kompany and De Jong today, two hard men we've needed. Okay, Liverpool piled on the pressure and our defence was still shakey at times, but we held out and got what we came for, a point.

Given made two epic saves. Robinho was great but faded as the game went on and probably should have been taken off earlier. Oh, and Micah finally looked like the defender we know. We're only 3pts behind 7th place (Wigan) now.

    Hey I'll take it.
I never thought i'd say this year, but the DEFENSE got us that point. they were amazing, especially Dunnes kick to save a goal.On the subject of Dunne though, he really has to watch his cards, another yellow today. We don't need him suspended again. Steven Ireland should be man of the match, great play, Given impressed me today, he made great saves.well, to me this is almost like a win, so I'm very happy. I just hope we can win thursday vs. FC Copenhagen and advance in the cup After that, we have west ham on the road, who is right above us(and has been the last 2 years) so it should be a great match up sunday.

Yep we control our own destiny right now and beating West Ham would go a long way toward's securing more European football next year.

Good result, but I hated the squad selection: 7 defenders and 3 attacking players? Where is Elano? I understand that without SWP with are SUPER limited in attacking midfield options, but Elano was the obvious choice wasn't he? We need Martin Petrov back ASAP, but we might consider making a #10 shirt our top priority. Right?

I'd rather have Kompany + De Jong in the midfield right now than Elano. Just for get him, he doesn't want to play for us, Hughes doesn't need to play him. I think last week sealed it for me, after playing so well for Brazil, Elano came back and played with absolutly no heart against Portsmouth.

I didn't see the match, but a draw is fantastic, shame we we're ahead and let it slip. But that's who we are.
