Does it get any better than this week in Columbus sports? Well maybe Ohio State manhandling Michigan and the Crew winning MLS CUP all in the same weekend was nice, but this week is pretty dam close to the best week in Columbus sports I can recall. The Blue Jackets have momentum coming off a thriller over San Jose (the NHL's best team) and not to mention they have Colorado and Detroit home tonight and Friday. The playoff bound, star driven Avs' and Wings coming to town, always a good draw. But WAIT, the Jackets are (I believe) in the thick of it for the first time ever! For you basketball fans out there the buckeyes are in the race for the big ten championship with a critical game Saturday night with da badgers. Oh yea and that soccer game Wednesday. Forgot bout that. Well, no need for an explanation there, let's just say millions of people around the world will have their eyes fixed upon OUR glorious, yellow, hunk of metal, shrine. So i ask you, what other weeks or weekends in Columbus have been as eventful and significant as the one that is upon us?
What can be said? Crew fans are known for their mood swings. One day, we're chanting "Sigi out!", and not half a year later, we're in control of the entire league.
Weird question, but I've been wondering this for 6 months now. Why are residents of Columbus called Columbusites. Is there a story behind it? I mean...obviously "Columbians" would cause confusion in this day and age.
I prefer Columbians personally but if we're going with reality then we're columbusites. But screw that, i'm a Westervillan!
Actually it is "Colombians" (notice the second "o") So it could be "Columbians" with a "u" for Columbus. But I don't live there anymore, so I'll let you guys decide.
When are they going to make another MLS Cup winner's DVD? I've been checking all my wholesale links and haven't even seen any upcoming titles.
Now that I think about it, isn't DC short for District of Columbia? I dunno, something about Columbusite sounds off to me. Same with Illinoisan, since the plural of Illinois is Illini. I dunno, language is weird like that. Especially with English and it's mix-mash of various languages that make up it's rules.
Go back in time to 2000 and see if Vegas would even take a wager on the CBJs making the playoffs AND the Avs miss the playoffs in the first 10 seasons of CBJ hockey. I'm not saying that Columbus is in and Colorado is out, because there's still a lot of hockey left to be played, but for those two teams to be ranked as they are was unthinkable just a year or two ago. A die-hard CBJ fan is probably in the same state of awe as a Crew fan was last summer.
The Avalanche are pretty much done. Half the team started the season here in Cleveland with the farm club.
I know, that's what I'm saying. Star studden and playoff bound? How about snakebitten with injuries all year and in VERY bad shape for the playoffs at this point. Hell, even if they make it, they really have no hope. The Jackets (who swept the series so far, right?) are in a much better position. Hopefully they can make a strong run.
