Our flight home to Baltimore yesterday (Thursday) was fantastic until we attempted to land. Our plane was ALL over the place and my Chili's chicken burger with fries almost was as well. I seriously thought we were going to end up in pieces considering our plane was tilting and weaving wherever the wind wanted it. It seemed the pilot had NO control of the plane. Somehow the pilots got the plane down safely to chants of U-S-A!!! and clapping from everyone. Unfortunately, I saw the news this morning about the plane crash in Buffalo, although it seems it is due to ice and not wind. How was everyone else's flights home from C-bus??
I'm not really crazy about flying so if that happened to me I don't know what I'd do. Thank the gods my two flights back to Dallas were decent. It really is sad about that one in NY
Columbus to Newark was just as bad. We had to pull up and try a second attempt. So bad a pax blew chunks. In a messed up way, I actually like rocky flights. It is scary but I don't wory about it. Winds so bad that only two runways were being used. 2.5 hours sitting before allowed to take off.
C-bus (6:15am) to BWI landing about 7:30am on Southwest. Take-off was rough. We were ascending so fast at one point I began to feel light headed. En route was no problem. Landing was the hard part. The plane kept lurching to the right. We had to come in really fast due to the wind. One attempt though, which was nice. The guy sitting next to me looked like he was going to leave nail marks in his armrest. Not the worst landing I've ever been in though... DET>BWI landing through thunderheads is not advised. Laptops learn to fly!
Columbus-Reagan and Reagan-Hartford were terrible take-off and landings for me yesterday. I was pretty close to losing my lunch on the landing into Hartford.
I went back to NYC on a Delta Connections flight yesterday. We switched from a 35-seat puddle-jumper to a 50-seater when an American flight got cancelled and they moved those people to ours. One thing that got me nervous before taking off was their request that some people move to the back to balance out the plane. We then sat on the runway for more than an hour because of winds at LGA. The flight was smooth until the last 20 minutes, when we had to circle around LGA in those brutal winds. I didn't throw up but felt concussed for hours afterward. Still, I felt relieved to land in one piece, and you can imagine how I felt this morning when I heard the news about the Buffalo crash.
Flew back to LGA from a scheduled 110pm flight which was delayed to 230~ish. Taking off was a little bumpy, but landing was tougher for me.
We hit some turbulence just before Chicago, but it was very minor compared to some I've experienced. The flight from O'Hare to Minneapolis-St. Paul was fine (meaning: I was able to nap), except for the guy a row ahead of me who got pretty bad airsickness (at least, I hope he was airsick...I'd hate to find out the hard way he had norovirus or something like that). But no delays, which I'm used to when flying. United was good to us. My heart goes out to the families of flight 3047 to Buffalo...I pray for them, and hope that no one coming from the game was on that flight. I've flown to Buffalo in rough weather (deicing in Detroit during a snowstorm on a flight bound for BUF was an experience) and know what it can be like.
haha, i was on the American flight that got cancelled so was moved to a Delta flight. you must have been on a later flight than me. our flight was fairly routine, a bit windy on take off and landing but nothing too terrible. on the smaller regional jets, it is normal for them to worry about balancing the weight and seating people appropriately so dont let it bother you when it happens.....
our flight went from Columbus to Cleveland, then Cleveland to LAX. The landing in Cleveland was scary, we were descending really fast, and seemed like we landed only on our left wheel. The lady next to me was crying, which doesnt inspire confidence ! my thoughts and prayers are for those on the continental flight 3407.
Were you flight 283, the one that left Columbus at 1:30 PM? Man, the last 20 minutes of that flight were terrifying. BTW, did you know that Gooch's parents were on board too? They were behind me in line, and I heard this woman tell her husband "there are a lot of soccer fans on this plane." I asked "oh, did you go to the game?" She said "yes, my son plays." I thought she meant that her son played on some U-12 team or something. Then Andy Gustafson, who was behind them in line, asked "do you think he'll be leaving Belgium soon?" and I realized they were Gooch's parents.
That he won't be in Belgium next year, but they're not sure where he'll end up. They did mention that he speaks fluent French.
Even the driving was scary. I was in a 2 hour traffic jam because a Semi flipped over and covered up the whole road. I saw the under body of 3 semi's that night.
JeremyEritrea: Yup, 283, where were you sitting? I was about 4 rows from the back stuck in the middle seat. I forgot Gooch is a DC product (do we pump them out or what around here?) I don't have a lot of flight experience, but I assume that one was a top 3 of worst flights on most passenger's lists. It was definitely my worst. I was pale and shaking after the flight, I can't imagine what other people were going through. My prayers go out to the families and friends of the Buffalo flight. I hope no one was on the flight returning from the game.
7:00 AM flight to Boston on Delta Connection was fine. Maybe a little turbulence. Worst part was the fact that the flight attendendant delayed our departure because she insisted on having maintenance come and replace a number of reading lights that burned out. So, were stuck at the gate for 20 minutes and finally we leave when she realizes that they haven't shown up yet and don't appear to be coming any time soon. We did make up the lost time in the air, thankfully.
haha man 7 am flight must have been rough. I didn't wake up until 8 am and I was still exhausted, and I didn't even go out to an after party.
I was on the aisle on the right side, about 10 rows from the back. Wearing the Steelers Super Bowl championship hoodie. I've flown a lot, and that was one of my worst flights ever. And yeah, thoughts and prayers for the Buffalo flight. Terrible news.
Yep, I was on that flight as well. I was next to the window, probably a few rows ahead of you, but on the right, I was wearing the J O'brien fake 2002 jersey. I actually thought about the paper the next day, saying something to the effect of, "Lost in the accident were parents of a US soccer player and numerous other fans returning from a match." I swear that thought went through my head. Was then horrified when I awoke to the news from Buffalo. Well, other than a long traffic jam on the way to the match and a scary landing returning home, the trip was absolutely perfect.
Mine was 6:15 am! AND I went to work right afterwards. I just barely made it to my 9am meeting... SO worth it!
Ah yeah steelers sweatshirt. I meant to say something to you because I've seen you at screaming eagle tailgates all the time. Glad we all made it home safely. Just bought my tickets to the Nashville game.
I was in Terminal B between 1 and 3 pm. I was with 4 other U.S. fans. While we were talking on the concourse 4 very athletic men of hispanic descent were walking towards us. When we stopped and looked at them we realized they were players from the Mexican National Team, including none other than Osvaldo Sanchez. We start to ask each other "What would happen if we said something rude?" As they walk by one of the guys I was with started a "Dos a cero" chant, and we all joined in. Boy, if looks could kill! Frankie Hejduk and Robbie Rogers were also on my flight to Reagan. Very friendly guys. Danny Califf also walked by in the terminal. Carlos Bocanegra was also paged over the intercom system to report to his gate for departure, both in english and in spanish.
6:08 am. And a two-hour drive after arriving in Minneapolis. And class at 3pm. I win. Granted, I did end up going to bed at 9:30pm... ...but except for one class, I'm all caught up on the work I missed.
