Personally I don't hate Madrid, but I'm sure a lot of Depor supporters do. Wasn't it Depor fans who sang "Felix Cumpleaños" to Madrid on their real 100th birthday when Depor beat them?

I don't think Deportivo or their supporters hates Madrid any more than the next club hates Madrid. Why should we? In head-to-head competition over the past few years, we own Madrid :).

That's one of the great things about Depor - since that Cup final, they can actually claim to have got one over on Madrid. Not sure Madrid's fans like that ... the Cumpleaños felz singing was really funny.

Depor's fans may not hate them much more than most fans, but unlike most other clubs they are genuine rivals to madrid these days, which adds a bit of edge.

Depor player on Spanish National Team.

Juan Carlos Valerón showed how great of a player he is against Armenia today.

He scored Spain's first goal and had an assist on their third. Maybe now he'll get some of the respect he deserves.

Luque came in for Raúl late.

Great Win today, 2-0 over Barcelona. We move to the top of the charts, at least until Valencia plays. Goals from Luque and Sergio. Pandiani's goal streak came to an end, but we got the most important result. This should give us momentum for Monaco this week. Match Stats later.

Sorry Mario, but your club will have the last laugh in a year from now (maybe sooner). Once your talent assimilates I except big things from Barcelona.

I really like this year's squad. Other than 5 horrible minutes against Osasuna we have looked consistently good/great.

I think people forget what a star crossed year we had last season with all the injuries. If we can stay healthy I expect big things.

Welcome to the thread simmer down.

I'm hoping for big things too this year, but didn't we start off fast last year (ok, not this fast) and fade after some injuries? I think our depth is better this year than last.

After seeing Turkey get their own forum, they only needed 10 supporters, surely we can get 10 for a Galician one.

Glad to be on the thread.

I don't want to tempt fate but last year's injuries were terrible luck. On top of that guys who were new to the squad got thrown onto the pitch too quickly. And we had some let downs at the start of the season even when we were close to full strength.

I think the biggest difference in our depth this year is that other than Muntis everyone should already feel comfortable and confident out there.

I might exchange a title in la liga for some success (final 4?) in the CL. Like all Depor fans I feel like we are the forgotten Spanish side. An impressive run in the CL would go a long way towards helping our prominence abroad.

What do you guys think about the game vs Monaco on Tuesday. Your probably expecting a win I'm hoping for a draw. I think Monaco can steal a point.

Its my nature to be nervous but I am pretty optimistic. Depor has been on a run this year that I haven't seen in a while. Plus, they rarely don't bring their best at home.

Not having Mauro Silva is going to hurt and I worry that Irureta might try to do too much with the lineups considering we are in between Barca and Valencia in la liga.

But I would be estatic if Depor got anything at Monaco. They are good and seem to have been playing well.

I'm with simmer down. I'll be cautiously optomistic about our chances tonight. I prefer to take all the points at home, and draw on the road (but who doesn't :p ?) But a draw as bad as it would be, would be acceptable, as long as PSV/AEK draw.

A win to us is more important than it is to Monaco because for the rest of the group stage we have to go to Monaco and Eindhoven (sp?), but AEK comes to the Riazor.

I'm hoping for sucess in the Champions League and La Liga, but if we could only achieve one, I'd rather have sucess in Europe because simmer down's right, we are the forgotten Spanish side, but I don't want to drop out of the top 4 in la liga.

Pandiani held without a goal for two straight matches, but we still get the Win!!!!!

Diego Tristán comes through for us in the 83rd minute, to put us on top of the group 1 point ahead of Monaco and 4(?) points ahead of PSV.

    1-0 Depor over Monaco

    Match Stats later.

It was pretty harry there at the end. Fran cleared a Monaco shot off the line at around the 90 minute mark. Monaco played pretty well this game and I think Depor can count themselves somewhat fortunate to get all three points. Hopefully Depor can get at least a draw in Monaco but it won't be easy at all.

No not so fortunate. I followed the match through MARCA's matchtracker. They are usually very pro spanish team (ie: biased) so when they say that Depor was lucky (bad word, more like fortunate) to get the win then I believe them. Also the UEFA matchtracker, who usually tone their commentary down without bias, said the same thing.

I was following it through the UEFA stat tracker, and I got pretty much the same impression as you.

Except it seemed we controlled most of the possesion, except they had the better chances, but they always seemed to be offsides.

Does anyone know why Valerón was subbed off?

I don't think there was any injury, it was just a tactical move. Monaco knew that everything ran through Valeron so they concetrated their defense at him. I think Irureta wanted speed up the team a bit.

    Thanks.

That's a relief, on the UEFA report it said he was ineffective.

I just thought it was weird seeing our best player subbed out.

Monaco had a goal taken away where the ref called offsides but in the replay it showed he wasn't offside. Horrible call.

I only saw the final 30 minutes and from what I understand they weren't representative of the previous 60. Monaco played for a tie and between the 60th and 83rd (when Tristan finally finished about his 4th good opportunity of this stretch) the ball crossed midfield maybe 3 or 4 times without and threat to Depor.

Valeron, judging from what I heard and the little I saw, was off his form (some say the worst he has been all year), plus we were in control and without him playing well, we just weren't finishing.

In the final minutes Monaco pressed and had two real dangerous chances.

From what I hear (can't believe I missed the first half, someone told me it wasn't on and I beleived them) it was an even defensive match for the first 60 and that Monaco got hosed on a couple offsides. I didn't hear about the goal being a bad call but it might have been.

For me, Tristan was especially frustrating. He had two chances where he was just a step slow getting to a well played ball and on one chance he attempted to flick it behind his leg when he was wide open in front instead of finishing. I know its a tough call to make but in a 0-0 CL game you hammer that home and then go looking to the goal of the matchday afterwards.
