Okay, but to REALLY be fair, keep in mind that several pages of posts in the DOOM thread covered the relatively happy news about FORT season ticket prices. So, we'll be expecting several pages of relatively bad news here...
1. EPL is fun and all, but it will be good to watch my team again. 2. When we sign two more Africans, some clever entrepreneur will come up with T-shirts that are Rev jerseys+logos in black, gold, green and red. They will be sold openly in the parking lot, where I will buy several. Rev management will tolerate it, because they will finally understand that without the fans, it's just a really expensive pick-up game. 3. We will soon be feared as one of the fastest teams in MLS. The old-timers will grin and shake their heads. 4. The Revs and Breakers will cooperate with their scheduling.
Now this would be a damn good thing. Then there are no reasons for people to have to choose. But they will conflict some and my choice will be the overpriced beer of Foxboro.
I am not in the "All is Well" camp, but there are somethings I am looking forward to this year: 1. Seeing Twellman score his 100th MLS goal 2. Seeing if Castro, Badilla, Nyassi, Mansally and Dube can make the 2nd year leap (yes, I know Nyassi and Mansally are technically entering their third year) 3. Finding out if Videira was worth the wait, like Shalrie was 4. Defending the SuperLiga trophy 5. Another year of Captain Ralston leading the team in assists
From the above posts it's obvious this team has reached a place of sufficient longevity to where it now has a HISTORY and FANS who like to REMEMBER WHEN.
Some of us would prefer to FORGET WHEN.... Like when our definition of a "successful" season was to finish ahead of the Miami Fusion, a.k.a. "The Real Madrid of Southern Florida."
Stumpy got a bad rap as our slowest player ever. I'll bet that he could have beaten either Rob Ukrop or Steve Howie. Of course, no one would have had the patience to wait around for any of them to complete a 40 yd "dash" and find out.
So the "Real Madrid of Southern Florida" is being replaced by their Catalan rivals? Boy, I can't wait until the Old Firm invests in MLS.
Indeed. Whenever the Revs are getting me down, I recall that once upon a time, a) Lalas was the face of the team, b) Frank Stapleton was running it, and c) he thought Kevin Wiley deserved a starting spot. We've come a long way baby!
I was going to suggest Goulooze, but Howey takes the cake I think. Literally takes the cake, actually.
No doubt. I always felt a little bad for Wylie. He and Jim St. Andre (both UVM grads) were over their heads, but nobody really knew what the level of play would be those first few years. Wylie----Okaroh----Lalas----Burns Poor Francis
The '97 defense with Squadrone (mostly) taking the place of Wylie was actually pretty good for great chunks of the season, amazingly enough.
Since we are reminiscing on the old times, that Joe Max-Moore was really something. .....and not for nothin', but I'm one of the few that actually likes the MLS shootout tie breaker, (not penalty kicks, but 1 on 1 starting from like the 35 yard line, there was some real strategy to this).
Didn't Teddy C play left back a lot of the time? And I believe Leo Squadrone was in the MF on that side, in front of Chrono for most of the 97 season. The only good thing I can say about the shootout is that FIFA should use it instead of PKs in a knockout tournament where there has to be a winner. PKs are too much of a coin flip, and with the SO, there were actually a few different ways of playing it, both for the keeper and shooter.
