WTF??? I mean I don't know much about the pick, but obviously DC likes him and has seen him a lot. But wouldn't he be there at 26 or even the third round?
i'll go with genius. nicol and mariner seem to be the only guys in the league who truly know how to scout college players. their track record speaks for itself.
Why hasn't Hertel gone? Apparently he had a great combine, and he's a left back; a hard position to fill.
Mo Johnston has drafted fairly well in his years too. He just can't do anything to make his guys play together...
Also, CB Darrius Barnes of Dook is still available. Seems that DC should look at the best available center backs at this point.
Very late to the party due to the flu knocking me on my ass, so my apologies if you've been taken to the woodshed on this already. In three years, probably only Santino will still be with United. So yes, I think the drafting of Pontius is a good pick. And who knows, maybe Pontius is the X-factor that was missing from an offense that went into the deep freeze after August.
If we had picked Alston (5'8") over Wallace (5'11") they would have been able to say, "Why did DC pick a 5'8'' defender in the first round?" instead.
Toronto made the "maybe Grella will change his mind" pick. This low, may not be such a bad idea, dunno.
DCU drafts RM Brandon Barklage - St. Louis U. Would have like to have seen a CB like Darius Barnes - Duke or Yohance Marshall - South Florida taken.
Brandon Barklage with the 3rd round pick. From the descriptions I've heard of him, looks like DCU is going for a Josh Gros type of player...all engine, marginal skill.
