I wanted to find a way to index the feelings of the voters in our informal poll. I factored +2 points for "Love it", -2 points for "Hate it", and +1 for Living with it As of 1/14 at 4PM SC +26 City +22 AC +5 Union -9
Re: Likeability Index When I voted my thought was that live with it is neither negative nor positive. Dunno what everyone else thinks but a zero seems more accurate to my feelings than a 1.
Re: Likeability Index But I think that shows enough complicity that it would be a positive feeling (if only slightly)
Re: Likeability Index yeah I think a zero is more appropriate.... it would be the middle of the 2 answers... - 2 , 0 , 2 just makes more sense.... IMHO
Re: Likeability Index I think +3 and -3 would work better, If only to differentiate strong feeling from apathy.
Re: Likeability Index I have to agree. If I put that as my answer, it was more positive than neutral. If I didn't like the name, even if I didn't quite hate it, I still picked "Hate It" because I didn't want it to be the name.
Re: Likeability Index i think if youre going to do an index, it should be an average. simply giving the vote options a value and adding/subtracting doesnt take into account that each poll has a different number of total votes rather, do this, 2=love, 1=dont mind, 0=hate. the mean value will be (2*(#love) + #dontmind)/total votes so as of 4:50pm, we have: City: 1.01 SC: 0.94 AC: 0.92 Union: 0.84
Re: Likeability Index Average is a good thought, but I do think you have to count the "hates" as negative. Using a value of zero for them means that all the people annoyed enough by something to vote "hate" are ignored and the same as if no one voted for "hate". That's not right. I also think you need to make love/hate stronger. I'd agree with the love=+3, hate=-3, and don't mind=+1 but then averaging. I think that's the best solution.
Re: Likeability Index ill write up the results for both and we can compare(im on winter break for my last semester of college and here i am still doing math...what kind of break is this haha)
Re: Likeability Index Ok so as of 5:15pm: average 1: Love=2, Dont Mind=1, Hate=0 City: 1.01 SC: 0.93 AC: 0.89 Union: 0.84 average 2: Love=3 dont mind=1, hate=-3 City: 0.26 SC: 0.24 AC: -0.02 Union: -0.18 so the trends are the same, but i still prefer the first average, as a value closer to 0 means the average people hate the name, closer to 1 the average doesnt mind, closer to 2 average love. the distribution on the 2nd averages tends to distort the average, as the difference between love and dont mind is smaller than the difference between dont mind and hate(2,4 in average 2, 1,1 in average 1).
Re: Likeability Index Honestly, if we wanted to meet ISO standards, we should go to a six sigma analysis, 3 standard deviations plus and minus the mean value. That would give the best possible representation of the data.
Re: Likeability Index neg rep almost given... this is not a corporation this is a fan group. our decisions ae not made based on what will make people happy, they are made on what will make US happy. if you want to go 6-sigma i'm calling HR and telling them you said i could keep my job if i dressed more sexfully.
Re: Likeability Index Good job SmashtheVan! Could you also include the polls of the write-in names (Atoms, Spartans, ...) to be able to compare their likability?
Re: Likeability Index ill be making updates and theyll be included in the results to follow. im sure theres a few more bound to pop up before the nights over.
Re: Likeability Index 1/14 10pm update! including new polls, using love=2, dont mind=1, hate=0 previously: City: 1.01 SC: 0.93 AC: 0.89 Union: 0.84 presently: 2010: 1.53 Colonials: 1.15* City: 1.01 AC: 0.94 SC: 0.90 Bullies: 0.89** Union: 0.80 Spartans: 0.80 Atoms: 0.60 *only 13 votes so far **pretty sure its not a serious suggestion but included it also, not including grandma's nut jugglers...figure that one out yourselves
Ranking the choices I decided to take all of our polls and put them in an order to see what the most popular is. I did three different versions of this. System 1: I gave all "Love It's" 3 points, "Don't Mind It's" 1 point and "Hate It's" -2 points and divided the sum by the number of votes. System 2: I gave all "Love It's" 1 point, "Don't Mind It's" 0 points and "Hate It's" -1 point and divided the sum by the number of votes. System 3: I just divided the number of "Love It's" by the number of votes. Here is how they broke down. I put the names we anticipate being on the choices list in bold. System 1: 1. 2010 1.23 2. Colonials 0.68 3. City 0.67 4. AC 0.52 5. Spartans 0.32 6. SC 0.27 7. Union 0.18 8. Atoms -0.32 9. Bullies -0.33 10. FF -2.00 System 2: 1. 2010 0.23 2. City 0.02 3. Colonials 0.00 4. AC -0.05 5. Spartans -0.13 6. SC -0.17 7. Union -0.19 8. Bullies -0.35 9. Atoms -0.37 10. FF -1.00 System 3: 1. 2010 0.46 2. City 0.40 3. AC 0.33 4. Colonials 0.33 5. Spartans 0.28 6. Bullies 0.28 7. Union 0.25 8. SC 0.21 9. Atoms 0.20 10. FF 0.00 Seems to me that 2010 is the most popular, but out of the choices we will have, City is the most popular. Take my rankings for what they're worth (probably nothing )
Re: Ranking the choices Here's my 2 cents...I think we should put all of this crazy nonsense aside...there is way too much division in the ranks re: this whole name thing...lets just pick one and all stand behind our choice...we're gonna get flack from some that they dont like it but us arguing amongst ourselves is accomplishing nothing....there are way too many annoying argumentsgoing on. can we just pick one and become a unified front on our name....I like some of them i dont like others...but whatever they are called they are our team! C'mon Philly!
Re: Ranking the choices I agree with the initial point, but not the conclusion. There's nowhere near any consensus, so there's no reason to have some sort of "official" top choice. Everyone should just vote for whatever they like and let the chips fall where they may.
Re: Ranking the choices im just looking to support some sort of UNITY within ourselves...thats all...the whole one for all and all for one thing. Pardon my cornyness.
