I'm definitely up for a trip to West Chester, and maybe Piscataway or Bridgewater too. When will we know what teams will actually be playing in the WPSL this year? We could take a "road trip" out west to support the Liberty when they play Lancaster... ...mmm, shoo-fly pie (and Lancaster Brewing Company beer)...
Nicely done (and more than I've done, I'll admit). But... ...I'm trying to think of what the womens' sports fans I know would say if I showed them this design, the women I knew who would play ice hockey on weekends and go see ABL games back before they folded (for which they're still mad at the WNBA)... I suspect their reply would be that the idea that a needle and thread is a somewhat injudicious way to represent female athletes, along with a thought or two about the orifices into which men who thought that "woman" = "sewing" should insert said needles. I know, I know, there's the Betsy Ross connection...I'm just saying.
Traveling support for WPSL sounds a little too much like http://www.foundrymusic.com/opieanthony/displaymedia.cfm?id=4884
Weighing in as apparently the only woman here -- I can't say I'm a big fan of the Betsy Ross hook since she never really did anything of note historically that there's any actual evidence for and the needle and thread motif just seems sexist (as are many of the suggested slogans here, but I assume most of you are kidding - right?) - Franklin's daughter, Sarah 'Sally' Franklin Bache is pretty cool and you could work a harpsichord into the logo in that case. You might have a look at 'Not All Wives: Women in Colonial Philadelphia' for some inspiration - or if you want to go for an early woman physician from Philly, I can provide as many as you like since that's what I do all day at work. Besides, all the female athletes I know knit - no one sews!
I'd like to point out to msboyd that Sally Franklin actually played the armonica, a musical instrument that was glass discs that was in water to play notes like rubbing the top of a glass. I believe Mr. Franklin invented that as well.
at the risk of sounding like a total 'tard, who and what are the sky blue and why do we dislike them so much?
Totally understand. The DoB thing came about because that is what the RBNY fans called us at first. No one has really picked up the mantle, but we see the potential for symbiosis between SoB and DoB (or whatever the name). We have worked hard to make sure that supporters were part of the stadium discussion and will do the same for the WPS team if requested.
Overall I think it's a good start though...the stars are obviously assocated with Betsy Ross, as are the needle and thread. It defintely needs to say "soccer" in some way, and probably needs a, uh...gutsier font. Betsy Ross meets Rosie the Riveter sort of thing.
