can they use allocation money to buy down DVB's cap hit? Or is that not possible since he is an intra league guy. I like this move, for no other reason than I think Oduro has planed off. His speed is great, but he doesnt get the most out of it i my opinion, due to his inability to make proper runs into space. and his touch is a joke. I hope for his sake working with Angel and Osorio get the most out of him, because he seems like a great guy. This sure makes us light at forward though..

I really think if there's a SuperDraft to use your picks for trade currency this is the one to do that with.

DvB will be a great addition to the team. Tons of experience. Good at both ends of the field. Dangerous in the attack.

Knock on wood, but it would really seem like nothing but upside.

funny thing is, DVB is one of the few guys in all of MLS that every time i saw him i was like, "Man, i wish we had a guy like that"

    weird.

i love the idea of ditching picks and using them for acquiring vets who can win, im pretty sour on the MLS draft, 2010 comes around and the CBA will change and i assume we'll be able to pull up our kids etc. Unless an Adu or Edu fall in your lap and you know they will make something of the pick, even if its $, i like using them as currency. hell id trade them for allocation space if i could.

OUTSTANDING addition. Sorry to see Oduro go, he was really starting to grow as a player and had become more than just a speed threat. His 2 goal closing performance vs. RSL (?) last season was great, really showed some great touches and finishing on the 2nd goal. We all know his finishing still needs some work, but I think he has a real future as his passing was getting better.

As for FCD, this is a huge piece of the puzzle. DVB is an excellent player and was a terror on the left side for NYRB throughout last season and in particular their playoff run.

He'll just need to learn, quickly, not to pass to Guarda unless he instantly wants to be on defense. :)

Yea, our later round 1, and earlier round 2 for their only pick in round 1. So we still have the 5 to deal away or pick with.

    not bad, I guess

The fact that he'll be 33 in a few months is a concern.

Then I fully endorse this trade and/or product.

I'll miss Dom, and I can almost guarantee that he'll score on us at PHP, but DVB adds so much that we've been missing for a season+ that this trade just makes too much sense.

If the rumors are true that Sigi's looking to trade away the #1 pick, maybe we can still package something together with one of our many central mids to grab Zakuani as a 3rd/4th striker and use some allocation $'s to bring in someone to partner Coop/fight Cunny for the second striker spot.

Van den Bergh is looking a likely candidate for the name on the back of Rex's jersey, 2009 edition.

I have a warm fuzzy feeling in my stomach, which is strange because usually I have a burning scratchy feeling in my stomach when I read about FCD trades. My Palpitations have also stopped. I might be smiling. This is confusing.

Is this a sign of SH taking over the soccer side of things from Hitch?
SH - I want Bruno (don't call it failed yet folks)
MH - No problem, he's GA, done.
SH - I want Coop, make it happen
MH - Ok, count on him for '09
    SH - I want a #10, here's the list
MH - You want to spend what, let me go to the books
SH - I want DvB, make it happen
MH - Ok, here you go. He wants how much, oh crap
I'm waiting for him to demand a DP next!

Glad to get Van den Bergh but sad to see Dom go. He was one of my favorite players.

This move gives us two very dangerous outside mids...if we can find some defenders, i would almost be ok with having bruno starting still....almost. i would still love to see ze roberto added, but i get the sense we will be looking at less known guys for the other mid position...likely from a parter club.

Love it, love it, love it. I have been a casual fan in the past. But you combine Van den Bergh with Cooper, you now have one of the most dangerous combos in the league. (I'm also still holding out hope that the Hoops are able to land Ze Roberto). If that defense gets cured, FC Dallas will be one of the best teams in the league and I definitely intend to follow this team more closely.

    A) Stop reading Houston stuff. Those old hacks are past it. :D

    B) Shea will likely be a backup CB if Schellas has his way, otherwise he will probably rot on the bench until Dallas finds a taker. Personally, I'd like to see what all the hullabaloo is about the kid before we say, "Tall=Defender."

I thought Brek was a left sided midfielder and or forward. What is this talk of center back?

I like this guy too. But you can bring all the best players in the world but if there is no CHEMISTRY the team is still gonna suck....ie Chelsea. The players have to show a willingness to play for the bus driver...havent seen that yet. I hope im wrong.

Brek played every position except goalkeeper for the U-17's. He stared at FCD like you said as a LM or F, but it sounds like FCD feels he might be decent at those positions, he could be something special at CB. IMHO his speed and touch and technical ability at LM or F is just OK, but would be very good at CB. That, combined with his size and strength makes CB seem like a logical fit.

When Morrow was still here he was playing forward and outside mid, he also entered the game as a left back once. When Hyndman took over, after time, he announced he thought Shea was better suited at center back and if he was open to it he wanted to try grooming him there. All indication thus far is that he is open to the move. Of course you can't blame him, anything to see playing time.

I too am very anxious to see his stuff. I didn't get to as many reserve games as I would've hoped last year, but what I did see was pretty much all upside.

No offense to Dom, but he showed the same thing for the last few season. Lots of speed, little skill. Of course there were a few exceptions, like vs RSL last year on my birthday. Otherwise, great trade.

Starting to look forward to the season....yeah.....

This is a good move.....sad to see Dom go as he was on of my first FCD player to sign my 1st jersey. But the team comes first! Now I'm nervous about what else FCD has cooking.....hopefully it's something good!:D
