No pointy ball games in February. In 2005 the US-Mexico game was the same day as an OSU home game, which raises hotel prices city wide. Also, Monty, when are you getting in?
You're going to be right down the street from where we're staying (Super8 on the other side of I-71).
We got 4-6 coming from Atlanta. We'll check in early Weds and then we'll see you guys at the bar. We're trying to take the shuttle to the derby as well.
Cool. I believe several members of the NJ Brigrade will also be at a nearby hotel in north Columbus. It's good to know that there will be other US Soccer fans in the area. What are you guys doing for transport?
We'll be renting a car at the airport (hoping the wife goes to Priceline and tries to lock this down ahead of time).
We have four coming in from Albany, NY overnight on Tuesday. Quick cat nap at the Hyatt on Capital Square on Wednesday morning, then off to Claddagh's for drinks and the shuttle to the match!
Not sure what hotel I will be at however I know I will be coming up with Dallas people. There is also something going on at Ruby Tuesday. Here is info I got on facebook. US vs. Mexico @ Columbus Crew Stadium, Columbus, OH 6:00 PM Central, ESPN2 Night Before: 1. Ruby Tuesday (not the chain restaurant) www.rubytuesdaylive.com 1978 Summit St, Columbus, OH ---This is the local hang out of the Hudson Street Hooligans, which on Tuesday night, be hosting a band, with drink specials, Pizza, US soccer highlights on the tube, $1 whiskey shots and $5 all you can drink bud light and amber bach. The bar is also youth friendly any and all ages are welcome just obviously under 21 cant drink. American Outlaws will be here. 2. Claddagh Pub 585 S Front St., Columbus, OH ---This is the official US soccer bar, drink and food specials. Wednesday: Ruby Tuesday Bar (info above), ---this is brought to you by Hudson Street Hooligans, these guys are awesome. This bar is a short walk to the stadium, so we will be priming and have all fans uniting at this bar starting at 1:00 pm in the afternoon. We are working on some food ideas, but there will be food. People under 21 are welcome, but can't drink of course. Drink specials this day too. This bar can hold a lot of people, so come one and all. ---We are working with nike and maybe US soccer to see what cool stuff we can do for everyone at this bar. Either way American Outlaws will be here and it will be insane. ---We will then march to the tailgate position chanting with smoke bombs from Ruby Tuesday, for a short tailgate where there will be tents and heaters, and drinks. Tailgate: Location isn't determined yet, we are waiting for US soccer and the stadium to decide on this information to approve a spot. This will be drinking only and we will try to organize every single supporter and march intogether from this spot. Time will be determined at the bar, but we will be marching in to the stadium 45 minutes before kick off. Gate Entry times haven't been announced yet, nor has how to and when to hang banners or bring drums into the stadium. American Outlaws, Hudson Street Hooligans, Sons of Ben, Nike and many others will be on the ground for these events. JOIN US! We will be selling memberships and merch at Ruby Tuesday Bar This is mostly for the AO group.
I'm arriving Tues afternoon and departing Thur morning, will be staying at the Westin, too. Sounds like the trip to Claddagh will be easy. Are you renting a car? Where do you park? I'm looking for a cheap place to park the rental, too expensive to park at the hotel.
I am coming in from Philly and staying at the holiday inn express. It looks like it is real close to the stadium. How close is it to the bar?
I'm no expert on parking downtown but you may find street parking in German Village/Brewery District which is to say around the bar. Watch out for permit only areas. edit: There's also a large garage right across main st which used to serve the mall. It's pretty cheap during the day but I don't know overnight rates. Also there is outdoor paid parking behind the hotel but again I don't know the rates.
I believe (but am not 100% certain) that the garage is $1 in the evenings and you just pay it in the machine on the way out.
How are things shaping up for Tuesday and Wednesday at the Columbus bars? Any type of tailgating being arranged like 4 years ago?
got a room at Clarmont...see you all there! couple of questions 1- what times are the shuttles leaving the Front St bar and 2- are they letting off at Crew Stadium or Ruby Tuesday 3- how many folks can these 3 shuttles take to the stadium? Thanks in advance
I believe some brave souls are planning unofficial tailgates, but due to the expected cold, i'd be surprised if any formal tailgate plans were announced.
My group of friends is planning to tailgate in the parking lot. We'll try to part in the area where the Crew Union parks and will have a fire pit to stay warm.
It's my understanding that the shuttles go to the stadium. If you go up early enough, I don't know if it would be possible with time considerations, but Ruby Tuesday and the stadium are very close to each other, so you could easily walk from the stadium to the bar. OTOH, if you offer a bit of money, maybe the shuttle driver would take you to Ruby Tuesday. You could also consider drinking at one place before the game and another after. There's also the option of drinking at Claddaugh until 5 or 6, then taking a cab directly to Ruby Tuesday. It's my understanding that the shuttles will run until everyone is at the stadium. If it means multiple trips per shuttle, then that's the deal.
If you're looking to bar crawl or chase tail head up to OSU's campus. If you're looking to hang out with US supporters at a proper soccer pub then head to Claddagh.
According to Google Maps, Claddagh is 2.0 miles from the Drury Inn and Suites by car or 1.6 miles on foot.
