Typically the two most popular basketball games are NBA Live and NBA 2k9. The others are more street influenced and arcadey. I'm an Xbox 360 owner myself, but the games are the same for both system. I'd read the reviews for both - I like the NBA 2k9 games, but I've always been a fan of the NBA Live series, since the its days on the 16-bit systems. I've been playing a lot of Live lately on Xbox Live in the Champions of Gaming tournament. Since my Wizards aren't really doing much, I have to live vicariously through the game (and pretend like Gilbert isn't hurt).
