    Battle of the dysfunctionals...

Great result from the lads last weekend against 'Arry's old club, can they follow it up with a result against his new club? We've done the double over Spurs in the last two seasons, to say we have a good record against them would be an understatement. We're also unbeaten in five games. We have a tendency of following up good results with bad ones though, so hopefully we keep focused. It's very important we get a run going.

Oba could be struggling to be involved in this one, apparently with a groin injury. That leaves the prospect of the Duke or Shola to play with Owen unless Oba can shake it off. Xisco is MIA apparently, or maybe JFK just doesn't rate him.

For once though the opposing side has a worse injury situation than we do. Woodgate, Jenas, King, Dos Santos, and Hutton are out, with Bent, Modric and Lennon being doubtful.

Kick off is 3pm GMT which will probably be another early (for a Sunday) rising for a few of you yank mags. I know this is something of a "BigSoccer Derby" for a few of you, for reasons I can't quite fathom, was there some sort of forum war before I started posting? Or was it all down to ToonUSA (R.I.P.).

Anyway, discuss and Keep The Faith etc.

I see no reason why they CAN'T get the win. The team's been good as of late, just unlucky in some respects. However, Spurs did put on an aggressive 2nd half show last night in the UEFA Cup Match. I still give it to us, but I think it will be an exciting nail-biter of a game. It would be nice to put some real distance between us and the drop zone and others in that region...amazing what 3 points will do in the table.

Spurs played quite well in the second half last night, but keep in mind they have two days between that and another match. Hardly any time to prepare for a match. They were at WHL, so that will help them recover, but still. We've won all the recent matches against Spu*s so hopefully that will carry over.

Big match. had to miss last week's match, was driving ym friend to the airport, and if you haven't noticed by my lack of posts, I haven't had any internet for a while. But can't wait for Sunday :D The match is on at 5p.m on FSC, so I may wait for that showing.

Be back later for some more analysis type.

A Spurs ITK is claiming that Woodgate and Jenas are definitely out, but Lennon, Modric and King are all traveling.

Fairly mediocre first half. Given's assist was amazing though. Tottenham were clearly offside on their goal. When the ball actually left the foot of the passer Modric was clearly offside. Funny how the telecast kept pausing the replay well before the ball left the foot. Screwed by an out of position linesman, what's new? Ah well, 1-1 is not too bad all things considered. Hopefully we can attack some more in the second and grab the win.

Nice three points to pick up, you could really see a goal coming in those last ten minutes.

Good result for us, we needed something with the results going the way they did this weekend. Up to 12th, who'd have thought it eh? The league is so tight this year these 6 points in the last 2 weeks have been massive. Funny how I kind of predicted this run by saying we'd f*ck up against Wigan and Stoke and get results in harder games. Sadly I also said we'd blow it at Wigan on boxing day (deja vu?). Lets keep focused for Friday, if we can get three points there we're in a great position followed up by the Torres-less Scousers on Sunday.

    Well done Duffers.

Great win but how can Tottenham be offside when Shola was the one who played the through ball to Modric??????

Well TD I think we've found the jinx. "Call off the search lads, he's ower here." :D

Dawson tackled the ball to Modric for Spurs goal, so it wasn't played back by Shola. Having had a look at it on TV I think Modric was in line with Enrique.

Got to give extra credit to Viduka for his role in Duff's winner, classic stuff from him, its what he does best.

By the way just watched the highlights and Duff was knackered at the end. I don't know if those jokes about him smoking are true, but he was only on for 5 minutes and looked like he was going to collapse at the end. I think we've found an effective role for him though. Stick him on for the last 5.

Oops sorry, having seen it on the tv it was a Dawson clearance. At the match it looked like Shola played him in! ha ha.

Think Modric was just onside though.

As do I, I've watched about ten minutes of each one due to my inability to wake up and stay up.

I love how we always beat Tottenham. 5 league wins in a row against them now? Really please for N'Zogbia. He clearly wasn't happy hear but has done really well to turn it around. Like Dyer,we will forever say that he has great potential, but I think he might actually fulfill it.

I think that makes 6 League game in a row over Spurs...I thought I heard the announcers say that NUFC's streak was at 5 going into the match in League play...but I am far from an expert on these matters.

Man, I would have loved to be there for that goal...the fans exploded...I can only imagine how loud it was there. Well done Duff and well done NUFC.

I do have one question though. I watch Mark Viduka handle the ball, and the guy's got excellent skills holding the ball, honestly I think he's the best on the team from what I've seen. Why can't he be the ball handling coach or something. I watch a lot of the games and get frustrated that the lads can't hold the ball for sh!t. But, I watched Viduka last night and he's very good. He's obviously got some knowledge to pass on to other players.

I have always liked Viduka, problem is he is just so hard to keep him fit and staying fit. Brilliant play by him even though he was slower than Shola. He makes up for it in positioning and touch. Sign him on for one more year.

WTF Jose Enrique? Kid blows hot and cold. Moments of sheer brillance followed immediately by a brain fart. Fortunately more brilliance than flatulence yesterday...

Duff, as much as I think he's milquetoast, surprises do happen (after all even Cacapa scored for us once...) Top job yesterday

A couple notes from the game:

Enrique caught Aaron Lennon from behind on at least two occasions. I didn't realize how fast was without the ball.

Too many long and medium balls played into the heart of the defense and not enough flank play and ball control in the midfield.

Charlie looks happy back on the left mid

The defense looks much better with Bassong and Colocinni in the center.

I would prefer either Butt or Guthrie be paired with a more box to box central midfielder that can provide some scoring threat and maybe some more technical play.

Good win and nice to do it over the spuds.

I agree about Enrique -- he looked really fast yesterday. I've never been a big fan of Enrique, but as of late I am liking the fact that he is showing improvement. Yeah, he still shows some real stupidity at times, but those instances are becoming fewer. It seems like he's becoming more familiar with the EPL and adjusting better. I'm still not totally sold on him yet, however I see some solid potential with the guy.

As for Viduka, for the love of all things wouldn't it be great if he could stay healthy for an extended period? He's a hell of a footballer.
