^ Benitez prefers the stability at Liverpool. Go figure.

I dont like this decision at all. Schuster asked for a forward and a winger during the off season, and he got neither of those. Instead we lost Robinho and have quite a few injuries. Can he really be expected to win La Liga with this team right now considering all the injuries? I remember with Capello we were all screaming at his line-ups and left scratching our heads. Schuster IMO was always fielding a good lineup and was doing a good job, just unlucky this season, and management mismanaging the transfers in the off season led us to this position. They should be fired, not Schuster.

That being said, Ramos is a very good coach also and will do good things, until he loses a few games and then hes fired.

Juande has a tradition (even in his most successful years in Sevilla) of only signing for one season at a time.

I disagree, sacking Schuster was not a must.

Take a look at the big picture. This is our eight !! coach from 2003/2004 season on. One would thought that Calderon learned something from Perez mistakes but apparently he didn't.

Benitez at Real Madrid. Just stop it please, have you ever seen the style of football Liverpool plays ?? I would rather bring back Capello and pay him 20 mio per season than watch Benitez one minute as a coach of Real Madrid. Also his transfer policy is as bad as it gets with couple exceptions.

But Ok now we have a new coach. He will want some new players to fit into his system. Basically we are where we were two years ago. Yes, team is younger but I expect many changes in near future.

That said, I think that Ramos could be a good coach for us . He is strict and while with Sevilla they were one of the best organized teams in Europe. But with Sevilla he had an amazing sport director, something he won't find here.

Not in my life I hope. Can't imagine a worse disaster! May be the Portuguese whiner can be equally bad!

Same here. His style of football is disgusting, I would rather see Capello taking over again than Benitez. Not to mention that his transfer policy is a complete mess (with a few exceptions )

His style is over criticised...his Valencia teams were capable of playing some superb football...their taking apart of Liverpool in the CL (the game that apparently won him the job a few years later) was a masterclass in pass and go football.
His football is certainly more open and better to watch than Capello's or Mourinho's.

I agree with Maca. This decision is long overdue, and should have been made after the Valladolid match. His decisions have been poor all season, and the statements that he has made and his inability to communicate with his players were his own doing, so he has no one to blame but himself.

Just read it and post still stands.

I think it would've been smarter to keep Schuster on till Xmas break though, but alas

^ Well at least you admitted that you hadn't read it. Comprehension was implied. Why else would you give us a URL for a BBC story about the coaching change - when it was sourced to Marca & AS and being discussed?

I have the day he signs for us played out in my mind already...and it is beautiful I tell you ;) I HEART Rafa (Benitez that is)

And it would appear on the surface anyway those things were taken into consideration and he was given a stay of execution...which he promptly threw away....

Schuster's line-up choices (substitutions, etc) IMO were questionable at best this season even with the injuries...

I have crappy memory so can't really remember how valencia played under benitez but i have seen A LOT of 'pool games in the last 3 years (one of my friends is a red *sigh*) and that team just plays horrible football. I've dozed off many times while watching their games with my friend. Although i know for a fact that squirrell intelligence has been proven to be better than human intelligence i'll have to disagree with maca on this one. I don't want benitez' snooze fest football at my club.

So, now that baron von stachface has left the building lets focus on our new leader senor ramos. I'm glad that he has been given a short term contract. That way if it doesn't work out we can part ways and hire someone better in the summer. I for one used to like his sevilla teams and i choose to forget his time in england. But having said that i'm not too sure of him guiding a massive club like ours through a very tough period. Granted we've got a new manager but we still have a long list of injured players and the stupidity of management during last summer to deal with.

I hope he can steady the ship and take us out of choppy waters. I'll reserve judgement until the end of the season on this one.

I watched his Valencia side but I didn't see any pass and go football back then! All I saw was a quick-fire run from Claudio Lopez down the flank, a damn precise long range pass from Mendieta, and a goal. Afterwards, ladies and gentlemen, you can switch your bloody TVs off because no more football will be played tonight. That's what I saw and that's what Benitez' football is all about. For all the time I've been watching football (quite a long time), I've never witnessed more negative approach to the game than that of Benitez.

The post was directed at Laudrup, the BBC link was kinda irrelevant.
Does it matter whether I use a Marca or BBC link anyways???!!

Seems you have comprehension problems, the gist of the post was to reveal Laudrup's knowledge of football (or complete lack thereof)

    Try to keep up ;)

I'm the one who is blatantly guilty of saying the only way Schuster gets sacked is a first round UCL exit.

Seriously, though, as a supporter of stability in the club at almost any cost, even I found myself after Sunday's loss believing something needed to be done. I'm a bit shocked to see it come four days before el clasico, but it could very well be a blessing in disguise. How? Not sure:D

Schuster, as stated by others, seemed to know the inevitable was upon him and his attitude compounded by results just sort of sped things up a bit, much to his delight I'm sure. Was he given a fair shot? I'm not certain he was... but he didn't get the reinforcements he wanted in the summer, but the squad is still loaded with talent, and despite the adversity of injuries etc his job was to figure it out and get results, whether through brilliant football or fighting in the trenches.

On to Juande Ramos...bienvenidos y que ganemos el clasico!

Great recollection of Benitez's football...apart from the fact that both Lopez and Mendieta had left Valencia before Benitez arrived.

I love it when people form an opinion without bothering to trouble reality.:p
