This article (although well intented) is comparing soccer violence to the holocost. Athough there are reported cases of violence in soccer, there is plenty of violence in all American sports and I've seen footage of riots at American football, baseball and basketball games. Soccer is the biggest sport in the World. A quarter of the World's population watched the final of the 2006 World Cup and over a billion people play soccer around the World. With this number of people from every area of the World and every socioeconomic segment of the World's population watching soccer games - your're bound to have some violence if it truely relect the World's population. - I've posted my opinion by e-mailing the Mr Pitts and posting on the article.

Well, the guy is a journalist. If he says that soccer violence is on par with the holocaust then he must be 100% correct.

He's not comparing soccer violence to the Holocaust. He's merely talking about mob violence.

Why soccer - why not just sports violence. There are plenty of examples of sports violence. It seems whenever American journalists want to give an example of violence - they always refer to soccer. I've been watching sports in this country for many years. I've seen plenty of riots and violence in other sports. Soccer is the biggest sport in the World. Over a billion people around the World play soccer. A quarter of the World's population watched the 2006 World Cup final. It's like comparing the crime rate in a small town like Two Egg Florida to New York City. Also the violence that is seen in soccer is usually a reflection of the local socioeconomic climate for the area in which the violence occured, not for soccer as a whole.

A new low for bigsoccer. An article that is written about the unfortunate and unnecessary death of a walmart employee and people bitch because the words "soccer riots" are included once half way through the article. Give me a break.

It's no no way a low. This is an example of the use of soccer whenever journalist's want to refer to sports violence. I agree with the intent of the article and give Mr. Pitts applause for all but the reference to soccer as his example of sports violence.

Wait a second, are you seriously trying to claim that the article compares soccer violence to the holocaust?

You're not very smart, are you?

it would also equate walmart shoppers with the nazis, which is an interesting concept. "Get 2 final solutions for the price of 1, from just $7.99 in Aisle 4. Hurry while stocks last"
