MYANMAR TAKE ON MALAYSIA; INDONESIA TO PLAY HYUNDAI

YANGON (18 Nov 2008) – Hosts Myanmar will take on Malaysia in the semi-finals of the Grand Royal Challenge Cup 2008 which will be played later tonight at the Thuwanna Youth Training Centre Stadium.

Malaysia ended the group match on second following the 4-1 win Ulsan Hyundai notched against Vietnam which ensured the side from South Korea the top spot in Group B.

Hyundai, who had held Malaysia to a 1-1 draw in their first game, started strongly with an attempt in the fifth minute off a corner from the right.

The young Vietnamese side struggled to keep possession although they did come close off Hoang Dinh Tung, which narrowly missed its intended target.

The former South Korean champions ended the first half with an attempt which came off the woodwork.

Vietnam came in stronger after the break but it was Hyundai who went ahead through Lee Jin Woo just three minutes after the restart.

Nguyen Tang Tuan then upped the tempo for Vietnam with a try which went over the crossbar while Nguyen Van Khai’s attempt from outside went wide.

Hyundai then carved a way through for Kim Seong Min to score the second goal from inside the box on 56th minute as Kim Cheol Bae then hit the third goal for the Koreans in the 68th minute.

Vietnam then scored their only goal in the game through Hoang Nhat Nam in the 74th minute as Hyundai confirmed their place at the top of the group and a place in the last four with their fourth and final goal off Young Seok on 82nd minute.

Hyundai ended the group stage on the same goal difference with Malaysia but they take Group B due to their better goal scored in the competition.

With the win, Hyundai will now play Indonesia – the runners-up team from Group A in the semi-finals tomorrow.

Seems like Myanmar have sealed first of the two places in Grand Finale, as the 3-1 lead is with just 4 minutes + stoppage in the game.

I wish it will come ture as well, but we still got one tough match to fight with either indo or korean club. Both teams are in a good form and indo want to avenge the group match lost to us and Korean club is getting better game by game. Personally I want Myanmar to play the final match against Ulsan Hyundai since we have never met them b4 and they will be stronger physically and technically.

Myanmar normally play the physical game with speed and pace, so it would be interesting to see how r they doing with the physcially stronger team.

Yes - a grand result for us. I agree a game with Hyundai would be better as these games will allow us more practice to compete against a superior style/brand of football.
BTW, does anyone know if AFF games (or Grand Royal Final) will be shown internationally (in North America) or if there is a web feed?
