How long are we going to put up with this charade? At the end of 3 quarters, Philadelphia leads Massachussets 30-6 COME ON I DARE YOU GUYS TO HIT 50. I can't wait til they come to Baltimore or have to go to Mexico to get creamed by LaRaza
They won't hit 50 but this is an embarassment. It was tied 6-6 at the end of the first but it's been a joke since. The Twisters have a few good players so they played decently early on but once you get past their few talented players they don't have much. Despite the score, it appears their keeper, Paul dello Stritto, is making some good saves. It also sounds like the Twisters are playing like a bunch of hacks which is no surprise to me. They did that in two games I saw them play in Rockford last year including the AISL title game. In the first of the games, at one point, two Twister players tried to take out a Rockford player who had the ball with vicious slide tackles but missed. The third Twister got him with a very dirty tackle that could have seriously injured the Rockford player. In the AISL title game, a Twister who had been playing like a hack was angry when a Rampage player retaliated against him and no penalty was called. The idiot actually took his shoe off and threw it at the Rockford player.
Final score: 34-11 Kixx. Great comment by Philly's radio announcer in the middle of the 3rd quarter with the score 23-6. He said, " The Kixx can work on a few things now or they can continue kicking the crap out of the Twisters." Suggested rule change when the Twisters play--multiple point scoring for the Twisters and single point scoring for their opponent.
What do you expect from a national league with the best indoor players money can buy? A competitive game? So what is that, 17-5 in goals?
What a way to welcome Springfield to the big leagues and Blast up 14-2 fourth quarter over Rockford. 9028 at the Arena
So is the NISL going to enact a slaughter rule when Mass plays? So as the coach of the Twisters, what possibly can you say to your team in the locker room after a game like that?
"The sun will come out tomorrow?" "One day we will all look back at this and laugh?" "There are worse things in life than getting spanked in front of 6000 people" Pick your platitude. Even the Cougars and the Sharks were not this horrid when they started. The question is, are there any players left to pick up after the NISL/XSL pi$$ing contest? Philadelphia made some nice pick ups, but they are still getting used to each other. Hopefully the Twisters can regroup before they come to Baltimore in a few weeks.
As a Kixx fan, I would like to feel some joy at their performance tonight. God knows, if they ever put up 34 against Baltimore, I'll be doing backflips. But I'm not going to pick on the Twisters. They were up against it from the start. Hell, they didn't even have the opportunity to go after Orlando players, despite the fact that they replaced Orlando in the league. I just somehow find myself disappointed that the Twisters appear to be every bit as outmatched and unprepared as many feared they would be. I'm afraid it will strip away some of the already thin respectability and professionalism that the NISL hopes to project. My only hope is that most fans won't really think of it in that way. I don't hear too many fans or commentators disparaging the NFL as a whole, for example, just because the Detroit Lions are 0-9 and would probably get beat by some of the better NCAA teams right now. Sometimes leagues have bad teams. Hopefully this one will be around long enough to have a true opportunity to improve.
I meant the guys like Tovar, Moreira, and Ricardinho. One might think that, given the way in which Mass. was willing to bail the other teams out of the trouble of completely having to re-organize the schedule, there might have been something like an expansion draft. If each team just gave up two, the Twisters would at least have 8 guys who had already been considered good enough to play in the league instead of having to scour the leftovers and locals.
What makes this situation worse is that the fact that it's such a small league. Because there are only five teams in the NISL, the Twisters play in 40% of the league's games. That means a high percentage of the league's games will be debacles unless something is done to improve the Twisters.
Holy Crap! A blow out. 34-11? Well I guess 17-5 in real goals, is Ok for the first game at this level. I hope they improve though. It was 6 to 6 at the end of the first time period. The Twisters did score the first goal. Not bad I guess. Thx, Ken
That sort of thing happened a lot in the AISL Syd. The road team often sent and dressed a relatively small squad to cut travel expenses. Once the Northern Illinois Rebels sent only nine players to play two weekend games against the Twisters in Massachusetts. A Rebel broke his ankle in the first game so they only had eight players for the second game. The Twisters themselves sent only ten players to Rockford for the AISL title game in March and forced them to drive out rather than fly to Chicago.
Its a start, one Mass can build on. Glad to see they are up and running. Figured out from www.kixxonline.com that the first Mass home game is 12/06. I'll be there.
As I was reading the Kixx online account of the game, I remember being surprised that the game was actually competitive early on (with the Twisters scoring first almost immediately), and it seemed that the Twisters got gassed and deflated as the scoring piled on. I thought it had more to do with them having relatively little prep time to get into game shape, but only having 6 on the bench would also explain that some. Unless they only have 12 on the roster period, I really hope they'll never do this again. It's a bush league move, and they're not supposed to be bush league anymore. It's time to reach into their pockets (or Ed Hale's or whomever else) and pay for a full squad to travel.
no, it's NOT "ok" for a "professional" team to get beaten that badly....do you really think that this was a fluke and will not happen again? get real.
and not quite a year ago, the celtics beat the knicks 104-59. just over a year ago, the raptors beat the nets 106-69. the celtics clinched the title in june with a 131-92 win over (ostensibly) the second-best team in the league. doesn't make it okay. doesn't make it unprecedented, either. to be fair, i'm sure mass's players are doing their best. but they're out of their league and are being sacrificed so that the league could have five teams.
only 12 guys have stats, so they screwed themselves if they didn't play the other three guys who dressed.
