How is it that A) Rutgers conference record is listed as 3-0-0 when they lost to St. John's a couple weeks ago and B) how is it the Red Storm are listed as 4-0-0 in conference when they've beat Rutgers, Notre Dame, Georgetown, Syracuse and Villanova?

From what I understand, Rutgers was a non-conference opponent this year. The Big East has 13 teams, but only plays 10 league games per season, so 2 teams don't get scheduled. Rutgers and Pitt were not on SJU's Big East schedule this year but they scheduled Rutgers anyway. Not sure of the accuracy of this, but seems to be true since the game wasn't registered on either teams results.

No argument there, and certainly with two NCAA titles the last seven years (St. John's 96, UConn 2000) they have won as many NCAA titles as any other conference during the "MLS Era" which also coincides with the "Since Bruce Arena Left UVa Era" and that dynasty basically ended. Along with the Pac 10, which doesn't have the depth the ACC and Big East have but has great programs like UCLA and Stanford, I would say the Big East is right up there as one of the top three conferences. Being an ACC guy, you know I'll say the ACC is the best, but that's just hot air and they don't have the NCAA titles in the Post-Bruce Era (just 'Carolina in 01) to back up the claim . A notch below the first three, but still very good, would be the Big Ten, Missouri Valley and West Coast conferenes along with Conference USA and the CAA. After that, a conference might have a strong program or two but not the depth of quality programs the others have. BTW, Frank, thanks for posting the standings and to Tiger1 for explaining the Rutgers-St. John's anomaly. Things like that are why I HATE big conferences.
just wanted to say tiger1 is dead on with that explanation. and i agree with sandon. to think if the two coaches werent tight, sju/rutgers might not have been on the schedule. or maybe next year its not sju/uconn or rutgers/uconn. please big east, thats a joke
The Hokies are 7-2-1. I wouldn't say they are "for real" yet but they are certainly of to a very good start and, Frank's right, that was a very good win for them. We discussed this ad nausem when he was hired but many of us were pretty sure it wouldn't take Oliver Weiss long to get VaTech back on track. And with the program heading to the ACC next year, I think it will make it that much easier for Weiss to recruit top talent.
