I have a better idea: If a trialist wants a shot at the roster, he has to bring two friends. And they have to bring two friends. Etc etc you get the joke.

Actually, FCD MAY be able to use allocation money on Cooper. IF they can get league approval, which MIGHT be possible if the league is denying the use of a DP spot for him. Here are the MLS allocation rules:

"Each year the MLS Competition Committee determines how much allocation money is made available to each team. Allocation money can be traded by teams. Allocation money does not count against a team's salary budget and can be used:
    • To sign players new to MLS (that is, a player that did not play in MLS during the previous season).
    • To re-sign an existing MLS player, with League approval.
    • In connection with the exercise of an option to purchase a player's rights or the extension of a player's contact for the second year provided the player was new to MLS in the immediately prior year.
Allocation money cannot otherwise be used to buy down the salary budget number of players already under contract to the League, nor can allocation money be used to buy down the budget number of a Designated Player.."

that's basically what that rule means. If the ownership committee deems player already on the team worth signing to big massive deal... aka Landon Donovan.

I understand that, Cyclone. In fact, I disagree with Buzz that the MLS will not allow FCD to use a DP on KCJ. It is, however, HSG that will have to convinve the other owners an league brass let FCD lock in KCJ. If you beleive the posts in the "In a Lost Season..." thread, you will see that HSG has no interest in it. Simply, they do not think that KCJ is worth it. I will allow one caveat, however. HSG has alwasy planned to renegotiate the deal, and are sandbagging. When HSG announces that KCJ will be staying, they become heros to the fans whom they are not very popular with.

Again, add in the partial allocation from El Lay for Ruiz.

    IF /

That would go a long way for me. Not re-signing Cooper tells me only one thing:

HSG IS NOT INTERESTED IN WINNING.

I think we already know that, we have DNA evidence that puts HSG at the secne - but this would be the smoking gun.

it's not the smoking gun. it's the recorded super high resolution cctv image of them murdering championships and playoff appearances.
