I'd rather they had Coca Cola. ATL is Coke's HQ, you know, and it'd seem odd for a team from their hometown to have anything but.

Would they even allow the team to sell Coca-Cola? Isn't Pepsi a partner of MLS?

For Coke and Atlanta, I am sure that they would make an exception.

Great point...in fact, that whole area of Dekalb/Gwinnett (Doraville, Chamblee, Norcross) has lots of land that could be had for cheap, redeveloped, and be close to the yuppies in Atlanta, Latinos and other Ethnic groups in that area, and easily accessible from the 'burbs.

Not only that, you could get it somewhere near the Chamblee or Doraville Marta Station...perfect.

Exactly. Right in front of the Dekalb airport they were going to build a large international market, but that has fallen through now. It is very close to the Chamblee station.

That may be true, but this sharing a football stadium with KSU really has me in a quandry. I guess I have a bit of a chip on my shoulder from having to watch MLS in football stadiums with gridlines, and now that we actually have beautiful soccer stadiums, to me, playing in a shared stadium with KSU football would be second rate. And I don't want second rate. Aurthur Blank doesn't strike me as a guy who accepts second rate. So, I'm hoping hes holding out for a better situation than Kennesaw.

What if they had white soccer lines, but orange football lines?

Does anyone know what division KSU is looking to play in? If it's Division 3, then maybe they'd be looking at a smaller field for the football team that seats less than 15-20k.

Sharing a stadium with a football team is an awful, awful idea.

Has anyone posted GE links to the various proposed stadium sites?

It's not ideal but I think you have to be pragmatic. It costs big time to build these days and sometimes you have to be willing to share to male the numbers work.

"...share to male the numbers work"? ahahahaha...wow.

In all seriousness, the president of KSU is serious about this. If I were you, I would email him to get a response on what they are trying to do. Do so in a respectful manner since this guy could be our ticket to watching MLS games....LIVE!

I have done my homework and here are the contact information of some of the people noted in this article (http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/stories/2008/10/14/arthur_blank_mls_soccer.html): and here (http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/stories/2008/10/15/atlanta_pro_soccer.html)

Brian Farley - Phone number is (404) 367 2070. Found here at this link: http://www.blankfoundation.org/news/newsrelease27.html

He was quoted in saying this in the article above:

“Filing this application represents an important next step as we continue to explore the possibility of bringing major league soccer to fans throughout metro atlanta,” AMB spokesman Brian Farley said in a statement. “We’re also looking at how best to create a sports-and-entertainment center that can not only serve as a premier soccer destination, but also a community resource for soccer enthusiasts at various levels of play throughout the region.”

Sam Olens - Chairman of the Cobb County Commission - He can be reached here at this website: http://www.olens.org/

He was quoted saying in the article:

“The ability to link a soccer franchise with KSU is a very exciting opportunity from the county’s perspective,” said Olens, who cautioned that financing remains a hurdle.

Dr. Wesley Wicker - executive director of the Kennesaw State University Foundation - His contact information can be found here: http://www.kennesaw.edu/giving/contactus.shtml

He was quoted saying in the article:

“This would be a great development not only for our students, but for Cobb County and indeed our state of Georgia,” said Wesley Wicker, executive director of the Kennesaw State University Foundation. “It’s a wonderful possibility, but at this point that’s just what it is — a possibility.”

Daniel Papp - School President - I cannot find his contact information

President Papp is the one who is pushing for a soccer/football stadium as quoted in the article above:

School president Daniel Papp has said a soccer/football stadium could rise on the site, as well as practice fields, athletic facilities, parking lots and other amenities. Other sites near KSU also could be tapped for a stadium amenable to Blank and MLS.

“While no agreement has been reached, we remain strongly interested and actively engaged in pursuing this public-private partnership that will benefit both the university and the community as a whole,” Papp said Wednesday in a statement.

Now if I were you, I would email them to get more information regarding their "vision" of what they see.

Delta Airlines maintenance areas are like a standing long pis from the Plant and delta has some money if they need extra space if not the City of atlanta would probably pay off hapeville.

I'm not sure we understand each other perfectly but thanks for the response it was informative.

I think it's unfortunate that there's no rail access to that proposed site. (correct me if I'm wrong) Maybe the owner would opt for a more centrally located site. When our plan comes together here, the Dynamo will be downtown with access to rail. Minimal rail at this point but having the stadium on the line is essential in my opinion. Atlanta has the perfect setup.

What's the problem? Soccer would be the prime tenant. I've seen Mexican games with American football lines on the field. Plus, there are some European soccer stadiums which also host rugby games. Get the corn cobs out of your butt, people. If we lose MLS over your pettiness, a lot of us are going to be major league pissed at you, ESPECIALLY if Barca/Miami gets a team instead of us, and they play at FIU.

KSU will have to play in Div 1AA, or the Championship League (?) as it's now called. They moved to D-1 a couple of years ago.

Football at KSU would be huge. Not kidding. The economic impact on the school and surrounding area would pay dividends.

I think KSU is the second biggest school population wise in the state next to UGA.

Third. Don't forget GA State (2nd). They'll have football in 2010.

I don't want a field with football lines, or shared revenues, or something ill-fitted for soccer.

If Blank is building it, it would be for soccer first. The Football lines, I imagine, would come only late in the season, and would be washed off when the team isn't playing. Plus, I imagine Blank would rent the stadium to KSU for their games, similar to the Georgia Dome being rented to Ga. State. Blank and the soccer team get all, or most, of the revenue. KSU will be the tenant, and FC Atlanta United Racing HSV will be the landlord. A complete 180 from the way it is now in Houston, NE, Salt Lake (for now), and what will be in Miami, if the Barca team plays at FIU. This even happens in Mexico and Europe. I don't see the problem.
