Just when I thought that virtual sets were gone from the air along comes yet another visual abortion on FSR.
Got to be the ugliest thing I've ever seen.
Worse than GOLTVs "American Soccer" set.
Bad enough that it is all black and gold, but also that it's waaaay too busy and distracting.
It doesn't need than many elements in the background.
One monitor for gfx and video and that's it.

Not surprising that the audio in the room has changed as well with all of the talent sounding hollow and distant even when their mics are up.

I know there is no point in complaining, the lousy set and the subpar audio are here to stay, but as a long time fan of the show I just had to say something.

I had exactly the same thoughts. I couldn't even listen to Bobby when he was speaking because I was being hypnotized by orange rays. It is the most horrible set design I think I have ever seen. I honestly would take a desk and white wall behind them. Wow, what a shock.

    It's really trippy.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks it sucks.

You're all correct. This is just so awful. I would be lying if i said it was going to make me stop watching, but seriously, tone down the virtual set.

I must be in the minority...because I like it. I like the modern sets like ESPN's.

Now...was I crazy or did I see a small window showing a pitch? Are they filming in the HDC?

Pretty sure they are still in Winnipeg.

Bitch, bitch, bitch....the same people who complained about the old set are now complaining about the new one!

It's not perfect but nothing in life is....It's certainly better. And anyone with any type of knowledge of 'virtual sets' knows it can be tailored and altered quite easily. I'm sure they'll make changes along the way.

Worse than Gol's 'American Soccer' set? Are you frickin high? Maybe it's time for a new TV because THAT set is THE worst hands down. I'd rate it even lower than the OLD FSR set!!

Again - it IS better than before - and nice to see them make the effort.

I love people who complain about those who complain.

And for the record, that set might be the ugliest thing I've ever laid my eyes on. I think my retinas started to bleed after about thirty seconds. I'm an avid viewer of the show, but that set is so horrendous and painful to look at (is it me or is the picture quality even more deteriorated as well? Seems to have coincided with the change in set...) I probably won't watch until they change it.

I love the show and the anchors, but the picture and audio are just atrocious.

I just wish the video quality was better.

FFF video quality is about a million times better.

a crappy virtaul set on an overcompressed MPEG4 signal...
hmmm...I'm surprised nobody thought about how that would look to the average cable/sat viewer at home.

As for Bianco Celeste's little tirade....

Why is it wrong to complain and ask why they didn't get it right the *first* time? Having worked for a few networks in my life I know that usually the goal is to hit the air with the set correct and ready for primetime.

BTW - For the record I never complained about the old set,
so get your facts straight before you level some asinine comment like that at me.

The old set was fine, I never even thought about it, which is kind of how it should be no? Then all of a sudden I turn on the channel and what the hell?

I have to agree that the set looks horrible... unfortunately it was not the decision of the staff of the show. It came from the higher ups who don't really seem to know what they are doing.

The entire set is shot on a "green screen", or in this case a "green room". The walls and floors are all green to create the effect of a "virtual set". The only thing that is real is the desk and the anchors... for now. Even the studio cameras are robotic. And soon, if CanWest Media has its choice, the anchors will be the next to be replaced... if they ever figure out how to do that!

The new "set" is located in a "new" building, hence the poor audio... lack of foresight into many things I am sure, and more technical glitches to come since the show is now being technically produced in an entirely different city 1300km away from the studio. Again, higher ups thinking they know what's best by cutting local employess and centralizing jobs.

Unfortunately the quality of the show will suffer, and things will most likely get worse before it gets better. Cudos to the crew for putting together an hour long show everyday with a skeleton staff and few resources, they do a great job with the little that they are provided.

If they replace the anchors I won't watch anymore. I can survive the distracting background, I don't like it but I will ignore it. But if the anchors are replaced for monetary means, I don't see a reason to watch.

The anchors are great. Count me out too if they get rid of Jeremy St. Louis and the rest of the guys. They love the sport, are professionals, and add a lot of dry wit to the show.

I'm sorry - did I say you specifically?
You may want to check YOUR facts there genius.

And while you may 'have worked for a few networks' in your time, I'm guessing your time is up because you don't seem to be in touch with the reality that is 'fiscal broadcast management' these days.

What is 'right' and what is 'ideal' are now two different things.
Such is the case with FSR and owners Canwest Global.

Oh and Wolverhamster, I have it on good authority the producers of the show were in on the set design so the FSR guys are not totally innocent. My guess is they'll make a few changes as they move along to improve things. I know they'll be reading these comments so perhaps instead of being 'bitchy' about it, maybe offer some constructive ideas in terms of changes they can make (other than 'blow the damn thing up!').

    Jammy - over to you....

ok. Being constructive: get rid of the snazzy background stuff. Less is more. A very simple backdrop as opposed to the 3d graphics nightmare that's there right now would go a long way.

Yeah, it's pretty poor but that's not why I watch. I found that I could tune it out pretty well after five minutes or so. Maybe it's a gift............

It's ignorable, but why even put something out that detracts from the real purpose for watching.

Speaking of the rest of the guys.... did they replace Carlos M. with that new girl? I haven't seen him in a while.

As for the new set, I prefer the old one. The one thing that really irritates me and even freaks me out is the close-ups they do on the anchors. Anyone else notice it or is it just me?

According to the good folks at FSWC Carlos has been on vacation and is back this weekend.

The new girl - Terry Lee - has taken the place of reporter Neil Deviny.

OK, it's been two months since this switch, and as far as I can tell, nothing has improved.

I suppose I can live with the graphics backdrop if I absolutely must. But the audio is inexcusable. We're talking kids-playing-TV-make-believe-with-dad's-camcorder bad. That mic'ing needs to be tight, crisp and robust. We don't want to hear the room. We want to hear the voices.

"Fox Soccer Report" has gone from being a plum on the FSC lineup to being a conspicuous eyesore.
