Will this be the final spark for the long-awaited San Jose Earthquakes Academy? GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
It's only fair to include Tottenham Hotspurs' official press release as well: "Club launches partnership with San Jose Earthquakes" (Thursday, 10/9/08) So the San Jose Earthquakes are now indirectly related to SuperSport United? GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
"Partnership between Quakes, Spurs, aims to benefit clubs both on and off the field" (includes audio of the press conference) (Left to right) Earthquakes general manager John Doyle, executive vice president Billy Beane, Tottenham sporting director Damien Comolli, Quakes president Mike Crowley, Spurs executive director Paul Barber, Earthquakes owner Lew Wolff, and Tottenham development coach Clive Allen trade jerseys at the press conference announcing the two teams’ partnership. Is that why Tottenham Hotspur ended up not partnering with the fallacy? That's yet another interesting aspect of this deal, particularly since it may open up the possibilities of which company (or companies) will end up being the Earthquakes' jersey sponsor and eventually buying the stadium naming-rights to The [Corporate name] Epicenter at San José. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
I'll bet any money Huckerby will end up being some type of spokeman and/or liaison for this entity. He made a nice and smart little move by coming to Northern California....I'm sure it was agreed upon before his signing. He may have taken a pay cut by coming here but he probably will get another 10 more years of work in the front office.
San Jose Earthquakes Academy? Do you mean for youth development? If so, the answer is "No". Look for something to happen with one of the youth clubs in the area in the next year or so...
Isn't Tottenham the club Billy Beane has been working closely with for the past year or two? (His statistics stuff & connections to upper management there?)
Yeah that's right.. most likely a big factor in this deal. If I recall, Beane is trying to figure out a way to statistically analyze matches and eventually implement a moneyball type philosophy. No doubt Tottenham will want a piece of this.
That's what I got out of the article as well. It sounds like we may only be a year or two from a Quakes youth academy. Likely it'll happen when the new stadium is finished but they could always get started earlier if they find a suitable interim venue. Twin Creeks might work, but with only 2 soccer fields that are of "decent" quality at best I doubt it.
OMG.....I didn't know...... 20 tickets per game???? SAN JOSE FROGS FRANCHISE IS CLOSING DOWN Reason is lack of community interest in top amateur soccer. http://www.sjfrogs.com/ kind of sad but we all knew when the Quakes came back it probably wouldn't last.
Apparently it wasn't just the Quakes that doomed them, they weren't doing as well in 07 either at the gate down from 06. But I think the final nails in their coffin was moving their home pitch from PAL to James Lick. It was a less desirable field and a less desirable location. Quakes just made it that much worse for them. And I bet moving from NPSL to USL PDL ended up costing them alot more than they banked on. Both in league fees and operations costs. Good news is if you want to stick with that train of thought, Real San Jose is still playing. http://realsanjose.net/
A dog club I am a member of has been renting the soccer fields at Twin Creeks for years and this past summer they told us they could not rent to us anymore because they had plans to develop the fields, but, were very vague on their actual plans. One employee said something about building more softball fields, and another saying something about an an indoor soccer facility. The soccer fields there are in poor shape, mainly because the irrigation system on those fields has failed and they have not wanted to spend the money to repair it.
Spurs fan here, All you pessimists (which seem to be Arsenal fans mostly) don't worry, we aren't getting relegated and have one of the best youth set-ups in the country. This meaning we don't have to buy players for our youth team, like the chelseas and arsenals of the world. Our youth team is top notch - mostly coming through our ranks - and currently top of the table (refer to shelfsiders excellent post). Your boys will benefit greatly though training with us and vise versa. Anyway, as shelfsider said, there will be alot of yid interest in san jose now, me included!
