um how? he brought in someone they can't sign? i guess it was a clever attempt if he could have gotten this kid into the juniors program. i am curious why he is considered a pro, I thought he was just playing PDL.

Why couldn't they file a discovery claim if they really like him?

    You can't discover a professional (I think).

I think the idea to have Tigres sign him and loan him is genius.

I don't think that is true. Discoverys have been placed on USL players and players from pro clubs in other countries. Here is the MLS Discovery rule:

    "(E.) DISCOVERY SIGNINGS
Each team has the opportunity to make six (6) discovery signings per season. The last day for discovery player signings is September 15, 2008 - coinciding with the roster freeze date and trade deadline. The six Discovery signings can be used to fill senior roster spots only. If multiple teams claim the same player using a Discovery, the team that filed the claim first will have first rights to the player. Discovery claims expire following each season. If a player was unable to come to terms during the season, the team that first filed the discovery retains the right of first refusal in the event the player is signed."

If MLS won't let us sign him and wants to use a lottery then he either needs to have previously been offered a MLS contract or have a GA contract:

    "

    (H.) LOTTERY
Some players shall be assigned to MLS teams via the weighted Lottery process. Any team assigned a player through the lottery in any particular season shall not be assigned another lottery player that season unless and until all teams have received a lottery player or have agreed to waive their option to participate in a Lottery. The players made available through lotteries include:
      1. Generation adidas players signed after the MLS SuperDraft;
      2. Draft eligible players to whom an MLS contract was offered but who failed to sign with the League prior to the Draft.
The weighted lottery takes into consideration each team's performance over its last 30 regular season games and the most recent postseason. The team with the worst record over its last 30 regular season games (dating back to previous season if necessary) will have the greatest probability of winning the lottery. Teams are not required to participate in a lottery. Players are assigned via the lottery system in order to prevent a player from potentially influencing his destination club with a strategic holdout."
Seems like the most likely explaination is that MLS wants to sign him to a GA contract.

Cause he's been in a US youth national team pool and you can't "discover" someone who has been in a national pool.

depending on when he signs, he'll either be in a lottery or in the draft.

    you can. See Cooper, Kenny.

before you ask, to that point he had never been in a national team pool.

It's a nice try. Trying to sneak him through as if he was an internal academy kid and then sign him to the senior roster. See what the LAG just did with Bowen.

Is this kid even good enough to be drafted as a reserve player?

Are you asking someone in paticular? I think any pro soccer club, you want to keep stockpiling talent. if the u20 WC was today, I think Rongen would pencil him as the starting forward.

I think that might be a little strong.

He's clearly talented, but it's very hard to judge him with respect to his GA competition, top college underclassmen and U-17 residency brats.

Most observers say the PDL is a decent level, but it's not as good as say, ACC soccer.

But between Oscar and Schellas and Ellinger, FCD should have a braintrust capable of figuring out in which round of the draft he belongs.

Don't be so sure. After all, Rongen passed on Neven Subotic.
