From Bill Archer's blog, he references this article:

    http://fire.american-soccer-news.com/?p=200

**If true, and they are only focusing on the 'geographical' standpoint and balance, that is not good news for NYC2 since the Northeast is already clustered with TO,NE,RB,PH,DC.

    also....
"MLS 2.0 will be rolled out in 2010. With this comes the question of “What does that mean?” There will be no promotion or relegation unveiled at that time and the league would prefer another Midwest team such as St. Louis to provide more balance geographically. Interest in a Miami franchise has resurfaced and Garber reiterated the demand in the Pacific Northwest is strong as well."

    A. is not a quote from Garber...
    B. seems to mean they want geopgrahically balance in relation to the Midwest.
i'm fine with St.Louis and NYC2 being the next round of expansion.

I think if anything - the people that should be worried are Canada - where is that reference - if this article states the future - there is no mention of canada.

Who knows what the hell it means - they say this and then next week they will say something else.

I think what it really does - is prepare us for St. Louis at 17

For 17th and 18th teams I think that they will be NYCFC and 1 between Montreal or St Louis.
Miami ? I hope that Garber doesn't the same error of the Chivas USA.

    TO - Midwest

NE, DC and RB - Are the only Northeast teams right now. Philly isn't until 2010.

Notice how he doesn't use NY but rather RB. Subconsciously he knows NYC is coming.

This post is nothing more than him trying to wind us up! MOD please card this poster!

An interesting opinion of Ives on his site www.soccerbyives.net :

Here's who I see being Next Four:

    Montreal
    New York
    Miami
    Vancouver

Here's the four I would pick if I had magic powers to establish the next four:

    New York
    Montreal
    Miami
    Las Vegas

    Ives is an idiot.

In the same post, he says, "That said, I wouldn't have much problem with those picks [St. Louis and Vegas], especially Vegas"

From what I can tell, MLS always tries to have an equal number of teams for each Conference. So the Next Four will most likely be from the following areas:

    East Coast:
    -NYC
    -Miami
-Montreal (counted as East, just like Toronto)

    West Coast
    -Portland
    -Vancouver
    -Las Vegas

    My pics:
-NYC (of course) and Montreal for the Eastern Conference

-Portland and Las Vegas for Western Conference

Vegas might be a good addition for the Rocky Mountain Cup run with Colorado and Salt Lake. However, the Seattle Sounders' historic rivals, the Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps, would make a nice Three-Way-Derby.

Montreal would have a natural rivalry with Toronto FC and we'd have one more Canadian team (though I don't know why we have one in the first place)

Then again, some people might like the idea of relaunching the Miami Fusion.

I do not believe this is a set back.

I think the reference to St. Louis is Garber's subtle way of saying that St. Louis is a done deal, look for them in 2011.

Now beyond St. Louis I have to believe that 2011 number 2 goes to someone with a stadium in place already, and I realize that St. Louis does not have the stadium yet but it is approved and just waiting on the league. So for all we know all the ducks could be being lined up behind the scenes so that St. Louis the announcement comes as part of a surprise groundbreaking perhaps.

I do not believe NYC is in for 2011, no stadium and I cannot see Wilpon sharing Citi, or renting Giants/Jets for a year or two. Instead I believe that NYC will be in for an as of yet unannounced but inevitable 2012/2013 round.

All that being said I believe that Vancouver BC is in for 2011 with St. Louis.

And that NYC is in for 2012/2013 along with Miami.

I think that 2 / 2.5 years is a sufficient time to build a 30.000 soccer stadium and I am sure that the MLS and also Wilpon want the NYCFC in MLS already by 2011 !!!

it would be close, but remember, ..Citifield broke ground 2 years ago in Novemeber...and that is for a much more detailed and involved stadium.
For a relatively simple SSS with half the seating of Citifield and most likely the same contractors.....
    i don't think it's a stretch for 2011

I thought about that just after I submitted my post. I thought of editing the post but this gives me a chance to respond. Wilpon essentially has 2.5 years which is plenty of time if, 1) the stadium design is already mostly set, 2) the permitting is complete, and 3) financing is in place. If all of those are true then I believe there is enough daylight. If not I stand by my previous statement. Of course I am in Seattle so what do I know :).

Well there's this item about the existing local team's archrivals. It doesn't have to be an expansion team for NY2, does it?

Nope don't even want to think of it. DC was my first MLS team and will be my number 2 once SSFC actually starts play. I think you guys are pure class and I am really hoping you get a team of your own. NYC would be the first New York based team that I would root for (unless you count the Cyclones). So heres hoping that DC stays where they belong, and that you guys get your team soon.

I'd be shocked if the league let DC, one of the flagship franchises, move completely out of that area.

Chances would be more likely that they would be playing in MD or VA either at a new SSS stadium or an existing college/minor league one.

I would be shocked to and honestly - i dont want to see it - As much as many dislike DC they are the most historic team in the league - they deserve their own digs and would love to see them stay.

I dont think we are going to see any teams move for a while - the only team you can make a case for is KC but the league does not seem to want to move them.

Even that would be a horrible situation. DC has always been very "metropolitan" and "connected" to mass transit. It would be sad to see them leave RFK. Unfortunately they cant buy RFK either.

Maybe a RFK could be remodelled into an SSS which could in turn be leased to DCU?? I'm sure that DCU and their people have people considered this as an option.

Who knows but I wish them the best.

Do you guys think that once NYC comes about Redbull will atleast have a vote to determine If they should stay New York or become New Jersey, Garber says 85% of redbull fans are Jersey Boys, surely that makes them FAKE:cool:

Interesting. I was thinking Setback for the title of the thread was referring to the Mets Historic Collapse Pt. 2
