No, they do not have a new manager, so it was the same Randers manager that signed Will John..

Actually i think AGF, Brøndby and OB have signed the best reinforcements in this transfer window.... However, some of the reinforcements then unfortunately have been struck by injuries...

Are Odense really that good this year or is it a favourable fixture list so far? I only get to watch BIF highlights and don't know too much about the other teams. Nice to be able to follow a league that is a little less predictable over this season and last as opposed to the Premiership.

Yes, OB Odense are regarded to be among the 2-3 best teams in the league this season, if not the best. In the past many years they have looked solid defensively and in midfield, but lacked the last bit of sharpness in attack and usually finished 4th in the table, but this season they got Baye Djiby Fall who really is a one-man army, besides they are a very physical strong team and got a very good and solid looking squad in compare with the other top teams in the league... They could most surely win the Danish championship, but ther are severaly big foreign clubs having a look at Djiby Fall, fortunately for Odense he has not been capped so many times for his country at this point, so the EPL clubs that has shown interest are probably not able to sign him, because he cant get a work permit in England..

Btw, if you havent noticed, you can have a look at the squads by clicking on the teams in the league table...

    Superliga, round 8 :

    AC Horsens v OB Odense, 1-2 (1-2)
    0-1 Baye Djiby Fall (27)
    1-1 Joseph Elanga (40)
    1-2 Baye Djiby Fall (44)
    Attendance: 3,755

It was not really a very good game by the away team from Odense, but they still got away with all 3 points thanks to Baye Djiby Fall who also was praised by OB manager Lars Olsen after the match. The strong 23-yo Senegalese striker has scored 7 goals in 8 Superliga games so far this season. AC Horsens did put up a very good fight, but were just not able to prevent Djiby Fall from scoring. Nice goal by Horsens left back Joseph Elanga though.

    FC København v AaB Aalborg, 3-0 (1-0)
    1-0 Atiba Hutchinson (42)
    2-0 Michael Beauchamp (owngoal) (54)
    3-0 Ailton Almeida (81)
    Attendance: 24,410

Both FCK and AaB produced good result in the UEFA Cup and Champions League this past week, but the Danish Champions was more or less outplayed by FCK in this highly entertaining and high paced match and once again AaBs newly signed Australian central defender Michael Beauchamp was quite unfortunate. He was signed this summer to replace Danny Califf, but was injured the first many weeks and then got sent off in his debut against OB Odense in round 5. After having served a match ban he was then mistakenly sent off in the CL match against Celtic and now having returned to play Superliga in this match, he made an unfortunate owngoal. So not a very good start at AaB for the Australian international... and not a good run for AaB in the Superliga so far this season, being in 10th spot just above the relegation line. FCK on the other hand look strong and was a level better than their opponents in this match, though also AaB produced some big opportunities. Still, FCK could easily have won this match by more than 3 goals. Man-of-the-match was the Czech Rep. right back Zdenek Pospech who made all 3 assists.

    FC Nordsjælland v Vejle, 2-1 (0-1)
    0-1 Adeshina Lawal (19)
    1-1 Martin Bernburg (57)
    2-1 Bajram Fetai (90)
    Attendance: 3,047

FCN was dominating possession wise in their UEFA Cup match against Olympiakos from Greece, but made some huge defensive mistakes which also has been their Achilles’s heel in the Superliga so far this season. However, Vejle was also defending rather poorly in this match, so it became quite entertaining. In the end it was Danish international Martin Bernburg who made the difference for the home team, while Vejle defender Brian Priske made the fatal defensive mistake in the very last minute..

    Randers FC v FC Midtjylland, 0-0 (0-0)
    Attendance: 7,208

Though it finished as a 0-0 draw, it was an intense high paced fight in Randers at Essex Park, so intense that it became rather costly for the two teams because Randers newly signed winger Mikkel Beckmann was knee injured, while FCMs Mikkel Thygesen suffered an injury that will keep him out for 3 to 6 weeks and their young Nigerian forward Jude Nworuh suffered a skull fracture when he collided with Randers new Scottish defender Steven Pressley. Nworuh was rushed to hospital and later moved to a hospital in Aarhus to undergo surgery and will not be fit to play for the rest of this year.. man-of the-match was Randers keeper Kevin Stuhr Ellegaard who really showed his worth and saved the day for the home team.

Danny Califf played from start to finish for FCM doing well, while Lee Nguyen got to play the last 16 minutes for Randers FC.

    Superliga, round 8 :

    Brøndby IF v Esbjerg fB, 2-1 (1-1)
    1-0 Michael Krohn-Dehli (8)
    1-1 Jeppe Mehl (27)
    2-1 Morten "Duncan" Rasmussen (76)
    Attendance: 9,689

Just as in their UEFA cup match against Rosenborg, Brøndby did not at all seem ready from start and was more or less run over by the quick and light-footed Esbjerg players. However, both teams were showing some poor defensive play and while Esbjerg squandered their many opportunities and also saw a goal being disallowed and very clearly were cheated of a penalty by the referee, then Brøndby were much more efficient, when Michael Krohn-Dehli took advantage of their very first chance to score his first Superliga goal for Brøndby (just as he scored his first Europa cup goal for the club against Rosenborg). But though the first 45 minutes finished 1-1, it really should have been Esbjerg being atleast a few goals up at half-time. The last 45 minutes was also an almost perfect mirror of the Rosenborg game, since Brøndby managed to fight their way back and be on top, creating lots of opportunities with Michael Krohn-Dehli as the creative force in midfield, but also by Brøndby playing some long-ball to their forwards, like in the UEFA Cup match. In any case, it was a highly entertaining match from start to finish and with a rather well playing Esbjerg team once again being struck by misfortune, not only by being cheated of a clear-cut penalty, but also by one of their best players Niki Zimling once again getting injured, at the start of the 2nd half.

Only 8 of the 12 Superliga teams managed to progress and be among the last 16 teams in round 4 of the Danish Cup. Most surprisingly the 4th level team Nordvest FC managed to eliminate SønderjyskE, but otherwise it was the 1. division teams showing that they on a good day are able to look good and do well against Superliga teams. So it was actually it was quite deserved when the Academics (AB) beat last seasons Silver medalists FC Midtjylland, since it was the home team dominating most of this match, also producing several big opportunities and scoring by a very nice free kick goal. The same could be said about Skive that also doiminated their match against Esbjerg fB, while AC Horsens were a bit lucky getting away wit a win in Viborg. So a very good job by most of the 1. division sides. The 2. Division teams did not do all that bad either with AaB Aalborg, Brøndby and AGF only narrowly securing the needed win by a one goal margin... Brøndby even playing their "away game" at home at Brøndby Stadium...

    AaB Aalborg v AC Horsens, 1-1 (0-1)
    0-1 Casper Johansen (38)
    1-1 Andreas Johansson (88)
    Attendance: 5,869

Except for the surprising 0-0 draw away against Celtic in Champions League, the Danish champions from Aalborg have had very disappionting results so far this season... and it was not to become any better at home vs. AC Horsens that with a bit of luck could have walked away with all 3 points in a not all that well played match. It was the visitors dominating the first 45 minutes, while the best AaB player was right back Kasper Bøgelund, but otherwise it was the AC Horsens players pushing forward and their left back, Joseph Elanga producing the best attempt by an excellent shot from around 31 meters that was cleared by AaB keeper Karim Zaza in the 19th minute. Also the visitors young U21 international Martin Spelmann put the AaB keeper to the test a few times before the first goal of the match by the likewise young and talented Casper Johansen who was only playing his second Superliga match for AC Horsens. The AaB play became a bit better in the last 45 minutes, but they still lacked the last bit of sharpness in attack. The Polish Euro-08 forward Marek Saganowski has put up a good fight in the games, but he has not been looking sharp and so far not managed to score the goals that was expected of him and also last season top scorer Jeppe Curth is having great trouble scoring goals this season. However, just as it seemed like AaB would lose all 3 points, Horsens centre back Mads Rieper made his first mistake of the match, when he did not manage to clear a good cross by left back Martin Pedersen so AaBs Swedish international Andreas Johansson in the end was able to save 1 point for the home team.

    OB Odense v Brøndby IF 0-1 (0-1)
    0-1 Ousman Jallow (30)
    Eric Djemba-Djemba,OB [IMG] (57)
    Attendance: 15,352

OB Odense are among the absolute favorites to win the Danish Championship, but for the first time this season OB were not able to field their Senegalese Star forward Baye Djiby Fall.. Brøndby on the other hand have been a bit up and down, at times playing real well but also having trouble keeping up the pressure in their games, so with the UEFA cup match against Rosenborg in mind, playing Odense away would still seem to be a highly difficult task for this Brøndby team, even with OB striker Djiby Fall serving a match ban. Still, the Brøndby players did fairly very well in the first 45 minutes, while OB seemed a bit toothless in attack without their Superliga top scorer. Though you could fear that Brøndby would be squashed by the physical stronger Odense players in the last 45 minutes and it also looked like it would be the case, but then OBs very strong Cameroonian midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba a bit surprisingly was sent off, which was quite a blow for the home team, though they still managed to push forward and produce the opportunities needed, with attempts from both Björn Sandro Runström and Espen Ruud hitting the Brøndby woodwork. However, to ease the OB pressure, Brøndby then changed their tactics from playing 4-4-2 to playing 4-5-1 and as the only 10 Odense players also grew tired, Brøndby were able to keep hold on the ball and keep Odense from being dangerous. It was once again Michael Krohn-Dehli playing more than well and being man-of-the-match for Brøndby, while their young Gambian striker Ousman Jallow got to score his very first Superliga goal for the club.

By securing a win in this match FC Midtjylland also secured an all-time danish league record, now being undefeated in the past 27 Superliga home games in a row.. So congrats to FCM, though the mtach itself was rather boring and uneventful. Danny Califf played all 90 minutes for FCM.

    0-1 Libor Sionko (35)
    0-2 Morten Nordstrand (55)
    0-3 Oscar Wendt (87)
    Attendance: 8,545

Vejle was quite simply outclassed in this home match vs. an incredible strong looking FCK team. The past few seasons head coach Ståle Solbakken and his FCK team were highly criticised for being the most dull playing team in ther Danish Superliga, but this changed dramatically this season to now probably being the most attacking minded and well playing short passing team ever seen in the Danish Superliga, with just about all the players really having raised their game a level or two. Unlike other FCK Brazilians in the past, then César Sántin has really been an instant success in the Superliga and probably the best signing in the league this summer, while players like Morten Nordstrand, Zdenek Pospech and Atiba Hutchinson just keep impressing from game to game, not to forget the excellent playing Czech Rep. Euro-08 Star player Libor Sionko, who even has had trouble keeping his spot as a regular starter on this well playing FCK team. On the other hand, the very attacking minded style of play has made the defense seem less solid than you would think a coach like Solbakken would accept, but he actually seem very happy about the new style of play that has been introduced this season.. The 3-0 goal was btw Oscar Wendt very first Superliga goal for FCK.

This is a great thread. I am glad that there are people out there who care about the Danish Superliga. I have only started following it this year, but love it and appreciate this thread. I hope also to be a common contributor. I have started a Denmark Soccer blog where I update results and news from Danish soccer. Check it out: denmarksoccer.blogspot.com and I will be back here to talk about more Danish soccer.

As for my team, Aalborg, they have been disappointing thus far this season. If the season ended right now, they would be relegated. That is pretty sad for a team that is playing in the group stage of the Champions' League right now.

Well, with FCK looking much better this season and several of the other clubs reinforcing their teams rather dramatically this summer, I figured that AaB would have trouble staying in top 4, but it is very surprising that they have not been able to keep up with AGF and Randers so far...

I am not Danish, but my ancestry is. My people are from Aalborg, hence why I follow them. I have had difficulty finding information about Denmark soccer in English, so I started a blog to help others who might be interested. I have tried to learn a little Danish, but you don't just pick it up that quickly.

Looking forward to the game against Malta today!

The Danish Champions have now played 6 home games this season, not being able to win a single one !... The AaB players more and more seem to lack the needed self-confidence, while the AaB supporters in this match were singing "Rioch go home", Of course it only add to the problem that the players know manager Bruce Rioch will be gone in January, since he was only signed as a temporary solution after they lost Erik Hamrén to Rosenborg. It has been a problem all along that the AaB management were not able to sign a permanent replacement for Hamrén in the summer, but because of the Champions League games, the AaB management no doubt were desperate to find an experienced manager even for this short a period, so they chose to sign a short-term deal with Rioch, rather than just using their assistent coach until January. Not that any of this is Riochs fault... It also seem like the AaB management should not have let captain Danny Califf leave so easily in the summer, not really doing much to offer him a new contract. They also lost other players in the summer and for the most part the replacements came, just like manger Rioch, a little too late or like Michael Beauchamp who was injured from start, so that they really did not have time to be fully prepared for a new season.... In other words, the AaB team has seemed weaker, rather unprepared and not at all ready to defend their Championship from last season. On top of this, their focus so far has seemed to be too much on the Champions League games. So Perhaps their main problem has all to do with the fact that the club and players are not used to the success of winning a Championship and playing CL. They are also not used to find themself at the bottom of the table, so they really have been ill prepared for this season and this situation.. However, they do need to wake up soon if they do not want to face the risk of relegation at the end of this season.

.. As for their opponent FCN, then they are known for developing young talents.. and just like they of lately have developed forwards like Morten Nordstrand and Martin Bernburg (who most likely is moving abroad in the winter), then a new young Star forward was shining in this match. Danish U21 international Nicklas Pedersen.

Not the best of games and AC Horsens probably think they should have secured a 0-0 result, but once again Czech Rep. international Zdenek Pospech showed that he has really been top class for FCK this season. Infact, FCK no doubt win games like this because they got that extra bit of quality even when they are not at their best, simply because they got better players than their opponents. So perhaps it's not really by chance that the decisive goal of the match was scored by a Czech Rep. right back...

    1-0 Bédi Buval (32)
    1-1 Eduardo Delani (73)
    Attendance: 4,828

It was hardly much of a surprise that the match would end like this, when the fact is that both teams had not been able to secure a win in their last 5-6 games. The Randers management and players are talking about the team being in a huge crisis, but perhaps the fact is that they are just not much better than this... a mid-table team in the Superliga... By the look of their games so far, they need some more punch in attack if they want to be among the top teams and besides Mikkel Beckmann, they really did not sign any real reinforcements in the summer transfer window, unlike most of the other teams in the league ... as for newly promoted Vejle, then it should be no surprise that this season will be a struggle at the bottom-half of the table. So in that sense a 1-1 away result is really not that bad. It's worth noticing that Vejle key player Brian Priske was used in central midfield in this match. He has played as right back most of his career, but was signed by Vejle this summer to be their captain in central defense. However, he has been a bit up and down in that position, but was a great success in midfield in this mach, also providing an excellent back heel-kick assist, as you can see in the highlights below.

    3-2 Baye Djiby Fall (84)
    4-2 Baye Djiby Fall (90)
    Attendance: 10,629

Esbjerg have really been badly struck by injuries so far this season. On top of this they did not do too well in the summer transfer market. The Icelandic striker Gunnar Heiðar Torvaldsson has been a huge flop and the same could be said for Swedish winger Martin Fribrock, while their most experienced signing Alexander Östlund has been injured and got a nightmare Superliga debut in this match, scoring an owngoal... Still, Esbjerg actually got of to a very good start, scoring a goal in the 4th minute, but despite a fairly good first 45 minutes by the visitors, it was OB Odense being on top... and not surprisingly Superliga player of the month and top scorer Baye Djiby Fall securing the win in the end. He was greatly missed in OBs last match against Brøndby and he is the one that could secure a Danish championship for Odense this season, if he is not injured or sold in the winter... OB Odense btw sold their young 16-yo Star U17 international Christian Eriksen to Ajax Amsterdam this past week... Eriksen is a natural #10 ...

    2-1 Jesper Kjærulf (45)
    2-2 Morten 'Duncan' Rasmussen (51)
    Attendance: 5,758

It may not always be all that pretty to watch, but you have to admire the SønderjyskE teamwork. being newly promoted and not really having much money to reinforce the team, all odds was and is against SønderjyskE, but instead of bunkering down in defense, they have been playing a highly unusual 3-5-2 system, trying to drag down the pace by passing the ball slowly around on their own half of the pitch and keep the battle and physical duels in midfield and in this way keep the ball away from their own defense.. and with fairly great success, because the many duels and free kicks in midfield leave little space for their opponents, preventing them from getting the needed flow in their play..... However, not having been able to score more than max one goal a game so far, SønderjyskE had changed tactics in this match to a just as surprising 3-4-3 system, hoping to be able to socre more goals. So this match was to be highly entertaining. besides a good teamwork, SønderjyskE also got a few creative players, especially Danish U21 international Ken Ilsø who also showed his worth for the home team in this match. SønderjyskE have been complaining alot about the referees in the Superliga being against the small teams and also in this match they probably were good reason to question Brøndbys first goal by Ousman Jallow. As for Brøndby, then they were as usual a bit up and down and once again it was mainly Michael Krohn-Dehli looking good for the visitors.

    FC Midtjylland v AGF Aarhus, 2-1 (1-0)
    1-0 Frank Kristensen (18)
    1-1 Ken Fagerberg (67)
    2-1 Kari Arnason (73)
    Attendance: 8,062

AGF are very badly struck by injuries. This time it was AGF captain Steffen Rasmussen who was added to the list, having broken a finger at training last week and now is out for a month...Some AGF players were also serving a match ban, so the odds of AGF getting away with points against an FCM team that is undefeated in their last 27 Superliga home games in a row, was rather slim. Still, the AGF players actually put up a good fight in a very physical, but also high paced and very entertaining match. Infact, AGF produced more shots on goal than the home team, but FCM were just that slightly bit more efficient in attack... and then AGFs Nando Rafael felt robbed of a penalty by the referee. So you perhaps could say that it was a slight home team advantage that in the end secured a win to FCM in an otherwise very even match, though with FCMs Adigun Salami being the Star of this physical tough fight.. The young Nigerian holding midfielder who has impressed very much this season and also has been on trial at Chelsea, told Danish TV3 that he is thinking of perhaps playing for the Danish NT in the future if it is possible. The Danish rules say that you have to have lived 9 years in Denmark for this to be possible and so far Salami has only spend the past 4 years in this country. However, it is possible to get an exemption from the rule, especially since Salami was very young when he came to Denmark and more or less has 'learned his trade' in this country so to speak.. Jeremiah White did not impress in this match, though he did come to the rescue in defense one time in the second half, saving a FCM attempt on the AGF goal-line... as for FCMs Danny Califf, then I'll let him talk about his own performance in the link below...

Well, the "last straw" was not the loss to Villarreal (which was predictable), but especially how Bruce Rioch let his players run tired the last 25 minutes, not using the bench at all... Like letting perhaps their best player in the CL qualifiers "Cacá" warm the bench from start to finish...

    Superliga, round 11 :

11 of 33 rounds have now been played.. or a third of games this season...OB Odense, FCK, FCM and Brøndby so far seem to show that extra bit of of quality or/and consistency in compare with the other teams in the league... AGF also have managed to raise their game, but still lack the last bit of consistency to be among the top 4 teams, while the big negative surprise is the Champions AaB and to some extend also Esbjerg at the bottom of the league... Esbjerg have so far been badly struck by injuries, but then so has AGF in 5th place... AaB on the other hand, really have no excuse for their poor performance so far. They are much too good a team to struggle this much at the bottom of the league, but the other bottom and mid-table teams have no doubt raised their game in compare with last season, so that more teams now are in the relegation fight..

The most entertaining and high paced of the two top games of this round was the match between Brøndby and FCM... Once again it was the Superligas "Lionel Messi", Michael Krohn-Dehli being the big Super Star and simply a level better than the other players in the league this round when Brøndby more or less out played the visitors who may be very strong at home but has looked rather poor in their away games so far this season.. and so it was also the case in this match. especially in the last 45 minutes. If Krohn-Dehli is able to avoid the more serious injuries, unlike when he played in the Dutch league, then it looks very good for Brøndby and for Krohn-Dehlis NT career. The problem for Brøndby is that they only signed him for the rest of this season, because of his injury-plagued past, so they are now in a hurry to extend his contract before it is too late... In Copenhagen it was more of an intense fight, between two strong looking teams, so nothing much happened in the first 45 minutes, though it became more highpaced and entertaining in the second half.... It does seem though, that OB and FCK are the two most consistent and solid looking teams in the league, while Brøndby and FCM perhaps both lack the last bit of depth and consistency to become Champions. However, the championship could very well be decided by how teams like AaB, FCN and AGF are going to perform against the top 4 teams after the winter break and not really so much by how the 4 top teams are going to do against eachother, because it could seem like AGF, FCN and especially AaB will be able to raise their level, by the look of their squads and their performances of lately. AaB were looking much better than usual in their away match in Randers and only some poor finishing prevented them from getting away with all 3 points. However, they were struck by more misfortune, since their key defender Michael Jakobsen got knee injured and had to be replaced in the 55th minute.

Besides Michael Krohn-Dehli and César Sántin, then Baye Djiby Fall is no doubt the most exciting player in the Danish Superliga so far his season. He was selected by the 12 Superliga managers and team captains as player of the month in July/August and September and is now also among the 3 nominees (along with Krohn-Dehli and FCKs César Santin) for the title this month.

As for the Americans it has not been too great a season so far... Tally Hall keep warming the bench for Esbjerg. Lee Nguyen is not getting to play or show much for Randers (though he got to play the last 37 minutes against AaB in this round).... While AGF is doing better then Jeremiah White does not seem quite as good as last season after having been moved to left wing position, though he is a regular starter and Benny Feilhaber only got to play one league match for AGF before a long-term injuruy was discovered... So Danny Califf is the one to perform consistently well, though he and his team-mates were not looking too good in the Brøndby game as you can see in the highlights below...

Superliga player of the month, October

The 12 Superliga managers and 12 Superliga team captains have selected Brøndby midfielder Michael Krohn-Dehli as Superliga 'player of the month'
    ----

    Superliga, round 12 :

Only Brøndby from top 4 managed to get away with all 3 points in this round 12 of the Superliga... and it was a hard earned win in an intense and highly entertaining match, since not only were AC Horsens two goals up after only 20 minutes, but despite Horsens keeper Søren Jochumsen being sent off for protesting against a quite dubious Brøndby goal and Horsens playing 10 against 11, Brøndby only managed to secure a narrow 4-3 win at home... Still, Morten "Duncan" Rasmussen is looking more and more like a Superliga top scorer this season, while as written elsewhere Michael Krohn-Dehli has been a very positive surprise and and done exceptionally well so far in the Superliga, infact it's so huge a surprise that his Agent (and former danish international) Søren Lerby says that he has never seen this quick and successful transformation from an injury-plagued talent who never quite seemed to make it, but now suddenly is showing pure NT class...

AaB Aalborg perhaps did not win thier match in Odense, but the 1-1 result was still a very good result and just as importantly AaB have performed much better the past few games. So it seems that they are moving away from the relegation line.... AGF and Randers now seem to be narrowing the gap to the top 4 teams, btw both after having announced that they are replacing their head coach. First it was AGF Aarhus signing Erik Rasmussen to be their new head coach in January and then this week Randers signed John Jensen to replace Colin Todd in the summer 2009. However, Colin Todd has said that he is very disappointed in the way the club have handled this matter, which he finds quite unusual, so the question is if he is going to stay until his contract expire or simply quit his job in the winter break.

As for the Americans then only Jeremiah White and Lee Nguyen got to play in this round, since Danny Califf was injured and out... White playing the first 81 minutes for AGF and Nguyen the last 7 minutes for Randers, but as you can see in the highlights below Nguyen actually managed to make an "assist" in the few minutes he played, while Jeremiah White scored a decisive goal for AGF...
