Simmonds was a while ago, granted.

Addlery was bought by DC from, I think Va Beach, a few years ago.

Martins was older, but I wasn't going after age, just that just because a guy is goo din the USL doesn't mean it will pan out.

Ching is a good example of a success story and why this should be allowed, I think. But I can see why someone in MLS might give pause when committing money to this guy. I'd be in the room telling that person to shut up, but I can see why they'd think of some of the failures. That's probably just cause DC was a major player in these kinds of guys with little result. :D

While I agree with you somewhat, RBNY provided him with an environment that allowed him to play and succeed. For that, they deserve praise.

The thing that ticks me off is that this didn't come out of nowhere. RBNY was interested in him a month ago. Atlanta had the price of $200K for him a month ago. (Doesn't anyone at MLS look at Big Soccer?) Why didn't MLS say 'No' back then and save both teams time and money.

How do you know Ives is wrong? I'll wait until Red Bull gives a statement saying Ives report isn't true, not a league official.

No he wasn't............I just told you:rolleyes:
    http://dcunited.mlsnet.com/players/...addlery_n&playerId=add366127&statType=current

Mac Kandji did (almost) everything he has done this season in the USL at the age of 22. That's College Senior age he was succeeding in a pro league better than any college teams or conference. The difference between 22 and 27 for pro's is big time.
Basically this guy got a taste last year and blew away USL this year (basically his first year as a starter, 2nd year technically a league player) at the age of 22. Given his obvious talent, physical tools, and age (Fast as hell, 6'4") anyone can tell he has lots of room to improve.

Same cannot be said about a 27 year old.

    There is a huge difference.

I think this has everything to do with the CBA.

Didn't a certain DC player give a wink and a nod, to a player to not sign with DC to go to USL to make more money?

I think MLS is trying to protect themselves from developmental players signing with USL for more money, and then being sold to MLS, when MLS should have pony-ed up the money in the first place.

I've really enjoyed this day. Watching MLS fans try and micromanage how the league spends its money, and then moaning when they don't do it how fans would, is one of the great joys of my life.

Fine, it only has to do with age and you win. They paid for David Testo and he was young. That didn't work out.

And I said "I think" about Addlery for a reason. That's what I thought. Thank you for showing me the link I was too lazy to look up. It still doesn't change the point that lots of guys have come to MLS from USL and not all pan out. It's reasonable to take pause regardless of this guy's age.

You do realize that your team will soon be a part of this clusterf-ck right? Whats just happend to rbny and their fans, the getting bent over and having a bat shoved up their collective fans derriere without the grease, could just as easily happen to your team soon enough. That some DC fans would post here defending the leagues decision is pretty obvious, they would like nothing better than to have RB at a competitive disadvantage talent wise ,everything they may spout about league this or that is pure B.S.

Zero joy to be had in this.

I don't agree with the decision either. But it's silly and counterfactual to think it's about parity.

    It's about cost-containment.

Kanji is a RBNY "discovery". RB cannot sign someone else's discovery pick, now they are not allowed to sign their own discovery pick. This is ridiculous.

More DC fans have said they disagree with the (still unsubstantiated) block than agree. Frankly I think it is reprehensible if MLS decided to block the transfer, especially considering I have been hearing about this kid and the Red Bulls interest in him for more than a month, and MLS strung them both out.

I would love to see RBNY get Kandji. I would immediately hope that his career, like many a metro before him, goes up in flames and everyone on bigsoccer could spend the off season talking about what a clusterf**k the Red Bulls organization is because they paid 200K for a USL player. I don't think that is how it would go down, but that is what I was prepared to root for before I heard about this unilateral travshamockery by the head honchos at MLSHQ.

Actually, Addlery signed with the Mariners, but they folded before he played a game for them.

DC United signed him after that.

Hence my use of the word "Some" in the sentence "some DC fans..". At least some of your Ilk can understand the travesty of this, if true. As for the rest of the fan back and forth B.S. Who knows we may have signed him and started him up top with Angel and opened up a can of whoopass on your team this saturday. Unfortunately, if this block is to be believed, we'll never know what may have happened.

    How do you define "development"?

By your definition, has any MLS team "developed" any player?

Mo wheeled and dealed to get the #17 pick that was used on Jozy, who wasn't a shabby player, but was by no means a sure bet, either (I think that every MLS team had picked at least one player prior to the #17 pick). And Mo made it very clear that his plan was to bring Jozy in for pre-season, let him stay at Bradenton, then work him into games by the end of the season. You're flat out wrong to imply that he fell into Metro's lap.

As for the other contention, if any MLS player has ever been "developed" in MLS, it's Tim Howard, who was identified as a promising player by Tim Mulqueen (Metro GK coach), and brought him into their then-affiliate North Jersey USISL team while Howard practiced with the Metro senior team. You're dead wrong about that.

I'd also like to ask you not to confuse your sense of rivalry with reality, and to deliver your lies in such a contentious way.
