Cruz Azul and Pumas are sending out B teams for their games this week. They will still include some good players (like Palencia who was being interviewed about the Harbor View game) but the strongest XI are still being saved for league play.
Well considering they got two EXTREMELY easy draws, their B squads should be up for the task. Hankook and Harbour View aren't exactly the favorites.
La Liga isn´t then monster it used to be years ago, and their only real class player is Pablo Herrera, but still I doubt this.
Well I think La Liga still is coming is as favorites, but I think the Islanders have the best chance for an upset of any of the small teams.
Montreal has been on a run of good form lately and have signed a few new players recently, they will probably get past Real Esteli.
Me too....and I'm going to agree with those who are boosting the Islanders...if they can continue on with their current form, I can definitely see them advancing over the 2 legs. Currently Joe Public is outplaying the Revs....but I think the Revs are content on just leaving it at a draw. Though I think they have to a little more aggressive, as their defense right now looks very shaky.
1:0 to Joe Public. What are the Revs playing at? Seriously, it's like they don't care if they win or lose. If Joe Public could finish it would be 4:0, easily. Just embarrassing. Maybe this will wake them up a bit, though -- force them to be a little more aggressive.
Tauro vs. Baby Chivas stoppage Why was there soo much stoppage time for the Tauro vs. Baby Chivas match??? Man it was like 7 minutes. Did someone get hurt???
Horrible games by both MLS sides. At least the Revs manage to score an away goal so they have it a lot easier on the return leg. Can't say the same thing about Chivas.
Chivas will be blaming the pitch... I don't know what the Revs excuse will be..... very bad looking matches for both MLS teams... you'd think they don't want international recognition.
They have nothing to blame except injuries and MLS rules induced thinness in the rosters. I have a hard time imagining Matt Reis giving up 2 to Joe Public, but I'm surprised Zach only coughed up 2 to Tauro. Revs will be okay next week unless they choose to blow this off. The baby goats on the other hand are too thin and too far from getting those bodies back to do anything about the deficit. Unless all those Tauro were really hurt and can't play next week.
Cruz Azul trashed Hankook Verdes, 6-0, I can't really comment much on the game since I didn't saw it, only the highlights. The sports commentators on TV here in Mexico where basically making fun of Concacaf for allowing such an uneven match. As for the other Mexican side taking part on this round, los Pumas, well their coach isn't particularly excited about this tournament, to be honest I don't even know if he made the trip to Jamaica, I did know that he sent a mostly young squad filled with guys the reserves of the first team and some players of Pumas Morelos (Pumas filial on the second tier division), so it's hard to predict how well they would play.
Bad PK given away by Joe Public, but that match probably should've ended about 4:1 if Roen Nelson had his goal scoring boots on.
Wehn I saw Reis wasn't playing, I hoped that New England wasn't resting him because they didn't care about the game. They said Reis has an adductor injury. Both of Joe Public's goals were scored from the run of play without a long buildup. I saw New England's goal but I didn't see what caused the penalty kick. It would be something if the USL had as many teams in the group stage as MLS. Montreal Imapct got an easy opponent, but Puerto Rico Islanders are playing an LD Alajuelense team that even if they are worse now than in the past they have had more Champions' Cup success than Tauro or Joe Public.
I don't think I've seen Puerto Rico play as poorly as New England and Chivas did last night. Montreal has had a couple that bad, but both have played stiffer competition all season than what Chivas and NE played last night. Go USL!
Both International Away matches on Turf against teams who wanted it more......too early to get bent out of shape
The Chivas match wasn't on turf. The field they were playing on was natural, but much worse than turf.
Canadian viewers .. Montreal Impact v Real Esteli is on live tonight at 8 on CBC Bold (and on cbcsports.ca), and on your local CBC at midnight.
How cool would it be to see both USL advance instead of the MLS???? What a kick in the nuts would that be!
After Toronto lost out in the Canadian competition (thanks to Vancouver, not Montreal!), I realized the USL teams are not to be taken lightly.
