this would seem to be the case -

if you want to team up with a club in this regard then who better than Barca for young, quality players.

Glenn Loovens the main name being banded about in the rags just now. Dutch CB at Cardiff City.

    £2.5-3mill fee.

the consensus of opinion among Celtic fans is we're hoping the SSM is only doing this to wind up Rangers and aren't seriously interested in him.

i don't believe he's any better than Caldwell and McManus.

I hope so as well I don't rate him at all. Just because you have a few good matches agains sides playing players out of position and in pre season freindlies doesn't make you worth that type of dough.

oh well. hopefully i'll eat my words as we've done a deal for around £2.5mill with Cardiff for Loovens and he'll officially sign on Saturday probably.

he is only 24 so again, there is time on his side which usually means he has sell on value as well.

considering he's a left footed CB i wonder if that means big Mick is more directly under threat from his acquisition than GC is. time will tell.

of course the fact that he was being chased by Rangers and we've decided to sign him does make it a little bit sweeter.

poor Minty will be hurting a little more tonight. he didn't look at all well in that interview he gave earlier today...

Then you're mad, he's definitely a premiership-standard player. £2.5m is bargainous when you look at current prices.

    fair enough.

although it begs the question, if what you say is true then why weren't premiership teams rushing to sign him?

i'll be delighted to be proved wrong and for him to be better than either starting CB that we have at this minute in time.

I don't know - I was speaking to a friend about it a while back, we both expected a move to somewhere like West Brom, Fulham etc. to be on the cards.

He's fairly quick although not exceptionally so, good in the air, a good passer of the ball, very good positionally and a good tackler too - he's an impressively all-round player for the Championship. Physically, he's tall but not all that bulky, but I've not seen him get into trouble because of it.

It seems that transfermarkt.de hasn't checked it yet.

Btw: How much did we pay for him (his contract in Cardiff would have expired next summer)? According to the above link, his current market value is about € 1 million. To be honest, I'm pretty sceptical about this signing (never heard his name before), especially when I see his height of only 1.77 meters as a CB. But well, maybe he'll prove me wrong ... since Fabio Cannavaro isn't taller. ;)

PS: Is Tamas (that greedy bastard) definitely no more topic at CP?

    it is definitely official.

Celtic don't reveal prices of players bought or sold but rumour has it somewhere between £2-2.5mill

from what i can gather Tamas is definitely finished with. we're waiting on a decision from Martin O'Neill regarding Maloney. price is agreed between clubs.

After today I think everyone is in agreement we need a striker who can hit the broad side of a barn. How many sitters can you miss in two matches?

to be honest, i don't think we've created a lot of chances in the two games. we did create a few in the second half today and if we'd taken one of them we'd have gone on to win but against St Mirren we created almost nothing.

that game annoyed me far more than todays match did.

yep. probably took about a £1mill pay off to move him on though.

    ---------

    now brace yourselves...

it would seem that the Marko Basa fiasco is back on again. it looks like we're still in the picture for him.

there may be more to come on this.

This Marko Basa thing is downright moronic. He's got 3 caps for a country that no longer exists and they happened 3 years ago. How in the world is he going to get a work permit?

not sure if he's EU or not.

either way, we swung the tribunal for Koki Mizuno so i can't see it being a problem to get a permit for Basa. especially as we'd be likely to shell out around about £4mill+ on the guy.

    fair point though.

no news on the Silvestre loan bid. not sure how much to read into it.

as for Tamas, he wanted astronomical wages and apparently his contingent of agents were impossible to deal with.

I think Silvestre is 31 and not worth it.

Just saw this on a Serie A/Calcio site:

    Crespo for Celtic?
Hernan Crespo has again been linked with a shock transfer to Scottish giants Celtic, after his proposed move to Lazio fell through. The 33-year-old finally cut his ties to Chelsea this summer and it is believed that he is open to a move to the SPL. In early July it was reported that the striker flew to Glasgow to hold talks over a possible transfer but at the time preferred to stay in Italy on loan with Inter.

Not going to happen his wages would be insane and he is a boat rocker. We need a striker who can be realyed upon to score game in game out.
