Wore my colors around Manhattan today and was stopped three times by people who wanted me to do Blanco's goal celebration. It was pretty cool. My non-MLS fan friends were duly impressed

Herron through on goal takes a heavy touch to the keeper. Absolutley useless.

Not according to Doran, who can't stop praising him tonight. I don't think Herron has been bad, but he was through on goal, got caught from behind, and didn't even take a shot.

Awesome. I'm so happy Andy Herron is on our team.

I don't know how many of you buy into karma, but I thought it was bad karma to start Herron on Polish night, it just felt to me like we would pay for that decision and maybe we did. Frankowski was OK when he came in, McBride almost scored a goal which was good, I was very, very frustrated with Mapp and Pause who both played with their heads up their relative asses. What was up with Blanco's idiotic decision to play a corner out to midfield when we now have McBride in the mix????

Conde and Rolfe were okay. McBean made dc a little nervous- yet they still managed to pick up 80% (no, I didn't count) of long balls by the Fire defense. There was also a reappearance of the disturbing 'slow pass.' Those that would be accurate, if they ever made it to the player for whom they were intended.
    Frustrating.
I do really enjoy the episodes of popcorn soccer, though. Probably because we have big players who can get under the ball and sometimes control it.

It was the dithering, IMO. Look up! Pass! Shoot! Yell at someone to get the hell open! Mapp does it a ton. Too many touches.

Conde was great, but Rolfe hasn't done shit for a while.

I think at some point, we had 10 forwards on the field, with no one understanding how to hold the ball.

Hamlett is showing less and less tactical accumen as the season goes along.

For those of you hoping for a McBride/Rolfe pairing, keep on hoping. And it's been a month since he scored.

    This sucks

I haven't been this angry at a Fire team in . . . ever, I think. Embarrassing performance against a weak dc team.

This team has HUGE organizational issues on set pieces. DC's goal was a gift . . . no one was within 10 yards of Fred. Attacking set pieces, McBride can't do anything to help if this is all the service he's given. On a corner in the last 10 minutes when we had everyone forward, the ball was played back to pause 40 yards from the endline and he turned the ball over.

When you're losing, especially late in the game, you don't typically see your defenders slowly trapping the ball in their own half, turning, dribbling a few steps, then playing the ball laterally to another defender who repeats the process. When you have Soumare, Prideaux, and Conde in your backline and Pause at defensive midfield, it's apparently a common occurance. WHAT ARE THEY THINKING??? Get the ball forward. All DC had to do to waste time towards the end was dump the ball down to the Fire defenders and let them spend 60 seconds getting the ball back over the midfield line. I'm not saying the Fire defense should be playing direct long balls as soon as they get possession, but they need to play with more urgency.

On a related note, why were we playing such low-pressure defense all game (especially late)? DC was given tons of time and space on the ball, and even though they did next to nothing with it, a lot of time was used up waiting for DC to turn the ball over.

Offensively, we looked better and probably could have had a PK near the end, but Herron was not good. Frankowski (in his limited time) looked better, but Nyarko looked good in his few minutes and should've come into the game before him. The Pappa sub had better be injury-related . . . otherwise it should have been either Pause or a defender taken out for McBride.

Oh, and did you notice the time the ball was played back to Pause about 40 yards from goal? He had at least 15 yards of space in front of him, but he turned, looked back, and saw that pretty much everyone was in the offensive half and there wasn't anyone to pass the ball back to. So he dribbled a few steps towards goal and blasted a long-range shot 20 yards or so off goal. He had almost every fire player in front of him to play the ball to and he couldn't think of anything better to do than try to score from long range.

So yeah, I'm angry. This was a weak DC team that created all of 2 dangerous chances (one being the gifted corner kick goal), and we lost at home.

Man that was some terrible commentating, but hey, it's the game on TV, I'll take it

Blanco and McBride are in a class of their own out there. But of course, it's a team game, and one stupid defensive mistake and bam, 0 points at home

Screw the defensive mistake, we only gave up one goal, you have Blanco, McBride, Rolfe, Mapp, Pappa, Frankowski and Nyarko and you can't score???

Why Herron started, I don't know, I would have started Nyarko. As far as I'm concerned they can cut frankowski and herron right now. Poppa was played on the right side which is not his position.Pause is in there for what reason? Is marmol still hurt isn't he better than pause? If not why did we bother to sign him?

It's like we're playing some sort of management/fantasy soccer without any regard to tactics, player management, team cohesion, etc

Start who you want, but I wouldn't blame the players, we could have had the US NT out there and I have an inkling we still would have had zero goals with our coaching today.

DH has really lost his footing, first he wanted to put his stamp on the team, he screwed the team up doing that, so now he has taken a step back and is just throwing stuff against the wall trying to see what will stick.

Does anyone know why Thor was not even on the bench?

Maybe if I watcht the broadcast I might understand Herron being on the pitch. From where I sat, I can't remember a chance he created, space for others that he created, or a shot on frame. I can certainly remember him ruining chances, taking a shot when he had 2 other options wide open, being offsides, and twice diving and calling for a foul when he could have popped up and possibly been in on the keeper. Of course he would have been caught and not gotten a shot off. I will assume with Nyarko and McBride now available, Andy will not be seen really soon.

I agree with Millicz that there is a certain karma to not starting Frankowski on Polish night. Looking at the other results and where we would be had we won tonight makes me think that Earl & Millicz are on to something.
