Was anyone able to view the NBC Olympic Soccer Channel today? Because I sure as hell couldn't with DirecTV. But I did some looking around and found this in the Business & Media forum: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=15351964&postcount=43 Just an FYI. I'm sorry I keep posting 'bad' information, but this whole thing is just bordering on the ridiculous. It's infuriating. Especially on a day like today when there were so many important/good games going on.
Buddy of mine had a horrendous conversation with a DirecTV supervisor today. The guy came right out and said he shouldn't complain because you're getting more coverage for free and, quote, "nobody cares about soccer anyway." Nice guy.
Wow. Just wow. I hope your friend officially complains about that supervisor to DirecTV because... 1 - you friend cared enough about it to call 2 - NBC must care to since they set up a channel DEDICATED TO SOCCER Wow. *toddles off to get java*
For folks in the Washington, DC, area with Comcast Digital, the NBC Olympic Soccer Channel is channel 221. This is true for DC proper and Arlington; sorry I can't confirm for other local systems. They have really flown under the radar with this. I've been trying to find information from Comcast (short of calling them, which I've avoided as it always gets my blood pressure too far up), with no luck. On another forum someone posted the channel info. for DC, someone else said it wasn't so for Alexandria, and I (in Arlington) gave channel 221 a try, and lo and behold, there it was. It shows up on the channel guide as OSOCR. They're replaying the ITA-HON men's match now.
MSNBC appears to be offering an 8 hr extravaganza of Oly. coverage. Anyone know how I can set my Timewarner tape delay to the game and sleep late tomorrow morning? Tips much appreciated!
FYI, I think the USA Japan game is going to be on USA (other women's soccer matches on MSNBC). Can't help you on the other problem!
HELP If anyone is out there today. I set my DVR to record MSNBC last night, because when I set it up it was the only channel listing soccer. Well, I guess I missed the USA Game against Japan. I'm a little ticked off. And, I cannot find the game online at the olympic site (the only game from today up is sweden vs. argentina. Anyone know where else I can watch the game? TIA
Can you get the NBC Olympic Soccer Channel if you DON'T have HD TV? NBC can't be so ignorant to fail to realize that millions and millions and millions of people don't have HD TV. At least a third of the country doesn't including me. My projection TV works just fine. NBC is supposed to be a free network so we should be able to watch the Olympic Soccer Channel on Standard Definition TV!!
I'm sure they realize it. Maybe they're in cahoots with the people who make HD sets and satellite receivers and they want to force you to upgrade to one. /logic? NBC's a free network. You can watch NBC for free. That doesn't mean that all of their networks are, and by right ought to be, free.
WHAT??!? I talked to Charter cable and they said that the channel only comes in HD and you need an HD Tv PLUS an HD receiver. How can you get it with just a regular Tv and I can't get it???
Our cable box translates the HD signal into a regular one. (I thought most cable boxes could do that.)
I called my local satelite TV company (Direct TV) and was told that if i wanted to get the All-Soccer Olympic channel, i needed a HD TV and HD receiver. NBC provided these local companies with olympic programming but...some of them (Direct TV included) have decided to offer the soccer channel to their clients ONLY in high def. Its the pitts. Direct TV didn't even advertise that HD would be needed to watch the soccer channel. Maybe some of us could have purchased the appropriate hardware if we had known. And it takes almost 2 weeks or more to get all the hardware purchased and set up so...its too late for Olympics 2008 folks. Other providers (comcast?) might be offering this channel in standard definition but many cable and satelite providers are offering the soccer channel only in HD. That leaves me (and the masses) out. I am catching most of the soccer i want to watch, either on MSNBC or USA network. And what's not there, i watch on the NBC website.
I'm Watching it On-line right now. No commentary, just the game it's awesome. Althought the Kiwi manager screaming at his team was getting on my nerves. The second goal sure shut him up!
FYP, The power of punctuation! With a lowly comma a "bad pun" becomes an affirmative declaration! Also to get back on topic the QF match for the USA will be on 08-15 (Friday) at 6:00 pm there ... so that is live here at 3:00 am ET?
Depends on where "here" is. For us east-coasters, Beijing is exactly 12 hours ahead, which makes it easy. It'll be an hour earlier for each time zone you are west of EDT. So it'll be 3 am for the left-coasters.
Yeah, NBC are total a*ssholes for not having enough common sense to know that about HALF the country doesn't even have HD TV yet!! They are shutting out over 100 MILLION Americans from watching their soccer channel. NBC is supposed to be a FREE network!! On top of that the idiots at Charter cable refuse to convert the HD signal to a standard one. They say they don't even have a box to do that!! It's a total f*ckin joke that so many people can't even watch the Olympic soccer channel!!!
Oh, but so many more people in the USA watch thrilling events like synchronized diving and Montenegro vs. Hungary in water polo.
LOL! I know! NBC is a bunch of retarded idiots!! Another instance of stupidity is they are forcing Jay Leno out who has the highest rated late night show in all of America due to his hilarious monologue. NBC is just totally frickin asinine, inept, and crazy!
