I decided to start a catch-all because, right now, it seems hard to get a feel on the new shows coming this fall. (Of course, it doesn't help that I don't watch commercials.) Anyway, these are the shows I'm at least willing to give a flier to and try to watch (some midseason shows too): NBC: * Gemini Division (looks like it might be horrible, but nobody knows how to sell sci-fi... interestingly, it's a 50 episode web series!) * Merlin (mid-season. A curious oddity, as it's a rare BBC show being run in the US on a major network.) * Knight Rider (dare I give it a second shot after the mini-series? I do.) * Untitled Office Spin-off (magic 8 ball sez: ask again later) CBS: * not a goddamn thing ABC: * Scrubs FOX: * Dollhouse (Dushku and Whedon? Yummy. Mid-season? Boo.) * The Cleveland Show (Sooner or later Seth MacFarlane is going to run out of Teh Funny...) * Fringe (curious...) Sci-Fi: * Caprica (are they overworking the golden goose? Only one way to find out.) * The Stranded * Deputized Anything else out there look good?
I'm curious about how David E. Kelley spins Life on Mars. On ABC, I think. Will it be quirky and politicized like some of his other shows. Or will it stay true to the BBC series, only with American 70s music. I'll at least check it out once.
There's hardly anything new that looks good to me for this fall, but here are some of the new shows I'm looking forward to catching... NBC Nothing CBS Nothing FOX -Frings - I'm a fan of a lot of Abrams stuff so I'll be checking it out -Dollhouse - Love Whedon's stuff, but this comes out in January. ABC - Life on Mars - I already so the first pilot which was ok, the recasting they've done makes me very suspect as well as the shows new frontrunners. I loved the BBC version though so I'll give this a try. CW - 90210 - My wife is excited for it, I'll give it a try simply for nostalgic reasons. HBO - Tru Blood - looks promising
Kelley is off the show, the original pilot is hovering around the internet so you could catch it and give it a shot. They had Colm Meaney playing the Gene Hunt role, which was good casting. Now they've booted him and hired Harvey Keitel. Not sure about that. The guys that created/ran October Road are now in charge of Life on Mars and that has diminished a lot of expectations and hope I had for the show.
I don't currently have HBO, but this show is intriguing... I'm real sketchy on the new NBC stuff. I'll give anything that airs on Sci-Fi a shot. I'm guessing I'll drop a lot of these shows pretty quickly. Seems like a real shortage of potential compared to last fall's offerings.
I believe NBC has decided it is not going to be a spin-off from The Office; instead it's an Amy Poehler vehicle. It's just by the same guys who run it. Any actual spin-off has been placed on the backburner. I'll check out Dollhouse but I'm not excited for it. I'll probably check out Fringe but really it's only reminding me of The X-Files. -- At this point I'm looking forward to whole seasons of Chuck, Pushing Daisies, Life, Dirty Sexy Money and Terminator way more than any new shows.
Good catch. We'll see where that goes; other than 30 Rock, ex-SNL cast projects have been decidedly mediocre. So am I (tho not DSM - that's never really appealed to me). Too bad Journeyman isn't coming back. My wife - who doesn't pay attention unless it's some hour-long "soapy" medical drama or a 30-minute standard-format sitcom - saw a promo for Chuck while we were watching the Olympics that caught her eye. So maybe I'll be able to get her off of some of the clap-trap she likes and on to good shows.
There's a new show on NBC that they've been promo'ing on the Olympics. It has Molly Shannon -- which means it could suck; and John Michael Higgins -- which means it could be great.
I've been watching the HBO promos for True Blood and feel pretty underwhelmed. Vampires are so last century.
Oh, well. Guess I really am out of touch. I couldn't quite picture what Kelley would do with this show anyway, but I'm really disappointed about Meaney being booted, even though I like Harvey Keitel as well. Of course, Philip Glenister was the best Gene Hunt ever, so I have a hard time picturing anybody else in that role. Hmmm, maybe I won't check this show out after all...
