You've never heard Americans boo our national anthem? It's been done to death, this was the first time we've ever done it and was only because of the huge misunderstanding. I and pretty much every Canadian is going right back to never disrespecting an anthem but ours has been booed before and will be booed here and there the same way it's always been so you can blame us all you want but the fact is it will happen regardless of us yesterday.

    Cry me a river.

Talk about repetitive posts....I think it's hilarious that you critisize me for addressing things point by point. Am I supposed to take the nonsensical, scatterbrain approach like you?

You say let people have their opinions....everybody but me I guess.

I'm not sure why me saying that people should never boo an anthem, or questioning why you would go if you seem proud that you weren't interested has got you so riled up. It's hard to tell because you just ramble on.

At least I'm giving my opinions on the All Star game. You're just giving your opinion of me. I don't like to speak for everyone (unlike you), but I'm pretty sure nobody cares.

Last night's booing and synchronous O Canada singing was indeed way offside. I was sure O Canada was coming, and called on those around me to give the benefit of the doubt and remain quiet for the US anthem, and if I was wrong we would sing O Canada anyway and be sure nothing happened on the pitch until we were done. A few did but it was for nought.

Not to excuse it, but the organisers botched it by not bringing out the Canadian flag with the others. In the end they had the playing of O Canada prepared special having a real singer and not just a tape. It was very well meant but badly planned. Even I thought O Canada wasn't getting played when after the US anthem they went onto other things.

And of course, US sports organisers have many slights against Canada on their record, so it's not entirely inconceivable that such a slight could happen. That along with the 51st state mentality that many Americans and Brits have about us.

Again, it doesn't excuse our fans' behaviour but all facts of the situation should be considered.

That said, I think it would be a good idea for the whole stadium to sing the US anthem at the next TFC home game as a show of goodwill.

west ham are shite..........fair play ,it's for us a pre season friendly .personally i think it was quite entertaining for such. you don't know much about football in my own opinion if you think that represents a real EPL game .for example. didn't MLS beat chelsea a few years back? a far better team than ourselves.torontofcmark think about things before you post.

I took my daughter to the game. She is a huge fan and a good player herself.

The kid is 2nd university now but last year she wanted to stand outside to get Brennan's autograph and this year she wanted a Brennan shirt to wear to the All Star game.

We are talking about a very composed and accomplished young person so I had to laugh last year when Brennan came over that she froze up and while he signed her ticket she was remained completely frozen.

Anyhow last night at the game she must have taken 200 pictures and with a nice lady who sits beside us was flying down the stairs to get a picture of Brennan, Beck and all the other guys.

Screaming, cheering and urging MLS on at the end of the night she turned to me and said "Dad, that was the most amazing experience of my life, I got to see Beckham play, Brennan take the field, Dero score the winner, an amazing demonstration of skill by players on both sides and lastly a chance to see an EPL team live"

For me seeing her reaction to this game and to our team in general was the icing on the cake. I am so happy we have MLS in TO.

In short the All -Star game was amazing - thanks to all the players, organizers and you fans who made this such a wonderful experience.:D

PS - my wife is my normal soccer buddy and very reluctantly gave her seat to our daughter - she too wanted to see Becks play - so needless to say when she asked last night how the game was, I said - okay.

Yikes sometimes you just have to white lie!!

    Finally got chance to post.

    my view:
Cock up on the anthems...really should have bought out all 3 at the same time - lesson learned I think for the organisers

Should have had at least one canadian on from the start - everyone seemed to be "dont know who to root for really"..soon as brennan and De Ro came on, atmosphere definately changed

Blanco - class and to boot (I think) a very humble and nice man

Beckham - to me he is still a cut above..and Im not even a Man U/Real fan - just like to acknowledge good football when I see it

Half time show - missed it as was trying to find a concession stall that hadnt run out of smirnoff ice!

Anyways, felt weird being at the BMO in my own seat, surrounded by all the people i know and not shouting for TFC...but overall I had a great night and enjoyed it...and NO RAIN! :D

Beckham's crosses were wonderful to watch. He was always open on the wing and had room to move and pass at will. Something we rarely get with TFC

fair enough. I will give you that on the pre season side. I thought the game was entertaining too. My biggest beef was I didnt think West Ham was a good enough draw for this game considering Chelsea was once the opponent so I had a bit of a bias. As far as knowing about SOCCER (lol)...your way off because I know a ton..I never said anything about that representing a real EPL game I just didnt like the opponent.

your an idiot. My post before you even showed up on this thread talked about the all star game experience so strike 1 to you on your rebuttal.

Second you dont seem to understand that people werent booing the American national anthem they were pissed that the Canadian flag and no mention that the Cdn anthem was going to be played later. That seems to rile up us sensitive canadians, me included. In 2 years of TFC games since you say you always go and enjoy yourself..when did you ever hear the american national anthem booed? NEVER. So for not understanding what people were thinking..strike 2 to you.

Strike 3 is the general boring picking on the supporters or anyone else in the stadium that criticizes and has every right to. Stop being the so called voice of reason for the large group of everyone else.

I dont know anyone else on this board that seems to rile up as many people as you but you dont seem to get it...you sit at home smoking your joint trying to figure out how to piss everyone off. I bet your the guy at the craps table when everyone is betting the pass line you make the come bets just to piss the roller off. Maybe you werent played with at kindergarten...the loser that had no friend. The guy that got the wedgie on the back of the bus in middle school or got thrown in the locker in high school. Probably sad to hear that as it brings back horrible memories.

And as I mentioned there are times im with you, like on the protest of the allstar game, but on your ever lasting banter of trashing anyone who doesnt just sit and suck the c*** of TFC just because we should give them our everlasting love you seem to drive everyone ballistic so for that you are a repetitive 1 trick pony.

Torontofcmark......are you kidding me? I want to ignore your insanity, but I'm not sure how you could actually think that I don't understand why the TFC fans were booing....you know, your goofy "Strike two". Of course I know why. Who cares why? Do you need someone to blame? Maybe you booed and regret it, I don't know.

It doesn't matter why. Having a reason for doing something doesn't justify it.

The rest of your post wasted my time. Craps? Yeah, there's something everyone can relate to. High school wedgies? Whatever.

I believe what you're doing is called "grasping at straws". You know what I mean right? It's like one of those wierd sayings like "it would freeze the balls off a brass monkey"....which I can explain, for interest sake.

I'll tell you now....and I swear to any God that there might be....and please kill me now if I'm lying...and I mean NOW!!!............but I've never had a serious wedgie performed on me in my life. I've had a mild one..but that was what people call "Forplay", and it was with a seriously sexy lady. Again, strike me down if I'm lying. This girl was drop dead gorgeous.

That might be too much info...but it's the truth (and you brought it up).

Not that any of this shit matters...but you seem to care.

i can understand your dissapointment at west ham being the opponents.but feel a bit dissapointed myself that you like many others took that view. west ham is representive of a typical premiership club. not in the top four, but with past of the occasional glory, a list of former long serving players who would grace any all star team and a loyal fan base where support is normally passed down through family ties or a connection to the area. typical of any premiership or championship side outside the top four. which is why i applaud the mls for getting teams like ourselves to play the all star game.maybe we were fifth choice and the big four were too busy touring the places that they need to sell more shirts in, either way i do understand the dissapointment but am a little annoyed by it.

The original poster of this thread deserves an epic fail. It was a great game to watch. I'm guessing the protest was an utter failure as well. I didn't see any major section with black shirt wearing supporters and, even though it was more quiet than an actual TFC game, there was still enough cheering that squashed any effort of a silent protest.

I just got back from my visit to Canada. I spent 4 days and enjoyed every minute (except the border crossing back to the USA).

I was pleased with the experience at BMO and the MLS All-Star game.

Put my vote down for one - "I liked it"

Thanks to some generous TFC fans who decide not to go to this game, many others were able to experience this match.

    Thank you Toronto !

    cheers

Sorry I'm posting this so late after the game, but I was in a car accident before the TFC Montreal game (what a crappy day eh? at least I made it to that game) and have been too busy shopping for cars to be on the computer much.

I'd say I quite enjoyed the all-star game, it gave me more of an appreciation of the premiership. It was also nice to watch a game where the end result didn't matter to me as much as a TFC game. I wish that the supporters weren't having their protest, which I must say was quite the failure, they wore black in protest and the MLS all-stars wore black, and there was cheering, which they claimed they weren't going to do. I'm happy that was a failure because the West Ham players and the TV audience could hear noise, and it didn't matter what they were cheering about people could hear noise and it made the fans sound into the game, which makes the MLS look good, and might help in attracting some more talent to the league.

I thought Beckham played great, I wish I could have seen him play in his prime. I was lucky enough to get a few great shots of him:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/dustinhall/2705380153/

as well as capturing De Ro's PK goal, which I must say was probably the hardest shot I've ever seen live:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/dustinhall/2705464107/

I felt proud to be a TFC supporter and a Canadian on the night when our hometown boys pitched in the way they did.

I am however not impressed with the whole anthem ordeal. I must admit, I walked into the first singing of the Canadian anthem and sung along, not knowing that we were singing over the American one. People should know that the Canadian anthem will be sung (though it was a terrible mistake not letting people in on the situation)

I'm glad to hear that the West Ham supporters felt welcome, after all, this is a friendly, and we want to attract more top notch teams in the future.

All in all, it was a great night, though, Blanco for player of the game??? It kills me to say it, but I thought Reis deserved it.

this game was decent, but west ham are a really crap team. the problem with MLS that I noticed is that most of the upper management know nothing of football. even in toronto FC they have guys with CFL, NFL, and Hockey backgrounds and experience leading the charge. No wonder they think it's okay to retrofit the stadium into a CFL field. I really don't know or understand how they went about hiring these people to run Toronto FC. It's probably these same people who previously thought that football would never take off in Canada even though the vast majority of people in a place like Toronto are football crazy.

Anyhow there are so many problems with TFC and chief among them is squad selection. Enough with my bltching. Like many of you, I wish I could have a hand in squad selection. The All star game was indeed higher quality than what is seen usually at BMO stadium which is good for the game.

West Ham may be a really crap team in your opinion but you then go on to say that the game was decent and higher quality than the usual all star fare? How about acknowledging that both sides played their part? I'm well aware that the plastics and others didn't want West Ham but those who have a broader knowledge of the game and took it for what it is, an exhibition match, thought it was reasonably entertaining fare. You are not going to get the likes of Chelsea every year because this game simply isn't important enough, teams come because it's a chance to get decent level oppostion as part of the pre season schedule, sell a few shirts and pocket $500,000, not for the prestige of the game. There are similar tournements and games being played all over the place during the summer. We were happy with the run out, especially the experience it gave our kids who took part, it was an enjoyable time playing a couple of matches in North America and of course the money is welcome, the trade off is posters sounding off about our club on the internet. I think we can cope with that somehow.

Sorry, I don't like being called a 'plastic' fan for not wanting West Ham at the All-Star game.

But my reasons had more to do with the fact that West Ham are cheaters and I don't want my money to help make them richer.

West Ham have brought the EPL into disrepute. That's why I didn't want to see them at the ASG.

a plastic fan is one who picks and follows a succesfull team from afar, thus jumping on a bandwagon of unearned glory.she didn't mean all of you just the one's who wanted to see manu ,arsenal or chelsea cause they follow them.
if anyone was dissapointed at west ham being the opponents cause they are crap, then fair play you know you football.but not wanting to go over old ground, if we 'cheated' because we had a player who was owned by a third party then exactly who do man utd intend to buy carlos tevez from? could it be the same people who owned him when we had him on loan?

If West Ham didn't cheat why were they fined? If West Ham fans were at least humble about their robbery I would have some respect for them. But since they are arrogant about what they pulled off they look like assholes.

By the way, I know what a plastic fan is. I didn't need a definition from you.
