Re: Ngwenya at FC Bayern That's just crazy talk. That's like saying they'd change the name of Upper Volta. I mean, c'mon.
Re: Ngwenya at FC Bayern They did, from French Upper Volta to the Republic of Upper Volta back in the 50´s But I do get your post, what´s next?, Burma?, Rangoon?
Re: Ngwenya at FC Bayern Tell me about it, I saw one in a book store the other day that didn't have Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia or East Germany. Do these people think we're stupid or something?
Re: Ngwenya at FC Bayern It'll always be Upper Volta to me. Of course, I also bemoan the demise of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but I digress.
Re: Ngwenya at FC Bayern He played today against Dortmund in the (unofficial championship formerly known as) German Super Cup. Had a shot on goal that was saved. Don't know how he fared in the run of play. He's still there, though.
Re: Ngwenya at FC Bayern That game is on GolTV right now. He isn't doing spectacular but he isn't doing too shabby. I just can't believe I'm actually watching him play for Bayern Munich. Crazy.
Re: Ngwenya at FC Bayern Jo actually has three goals so far in the test matches. Latest rumour I have come across is a report that Fulham and Sunderland might have some interest. Not sure of the accuracy as I have not found a direct quote to link but that was the report from some folks watching the German feed of the Supercup game and was made by the German Commentators.
Re: Ngwenya at FC Bayern He's playing in the second half of the friendly with Koln showing on GolTV at the moment. He had a gaping net early on, but the pass was behind him and he didn't turn quick enough.
Re: Ngwenya at FC Bayern Awww.... I was watching that game and turned it off after not seeing Joe out on the pitch. I should have waited.
Re: Ngwenya at FC Bayern I went from befuddled to heavily disappointed. Our boy Ngwenya is FC Bayern's version of a 5th string QB at an NFL training camp.
Re: Ngwenya at FC Bayern I'd rather be 5th string in the NFL, than 2nd string in the canadian league.
Re: Breaking News: Ngwenya at FC Bayern Wait you live in Houston and your second favorite team is the Dynamo?!!! Don't get me wrong I too am a fan of Bayern Munich, but don't you think you should support your home team? Unfortunately we do not live in Europe, therefore your number one team should at least be a MLS team. Are you from Germany or lived there for a time or something?
Re: Breaking News: Ngwenya at FC Bayern What's wrong with that? My first team is Everton. My "second" team is the Dynamo. I'm always going to be a huge Dynamo supporter but if I'm ever asked to pick between the two (hopefully in a friendly), it'll be Everton every day of the week and twice on Sunday. And no, I don't/didn't live in Europe.
Re: Ngwenya at FC Bayern Mods, can we change the title to Jo's Excellent European Adventure or something? He has not been at Bayern for a few days now and was last seen on trial with BL2 side FC Augsburg.
Re: Ngwenya at FC Bayern A few more of the test match which Augsburg won against BL side Cottbus, 6:1. No goals from Jo though. FC Energie Cottbus: Tremmel (46. Piplica) - Radeljic, Mitreski (46. Pavicevic), Atan, Ziebig (26. Cvitanovic) - Angelov (46. Kurth (62. Bassila)), Rost - Jelic (61. Zimmermann), Vasiljevic, Sörensen (46. Shao) - Rangelov (46. Jula) FC Augsburg: Khamutouski - Hertzsch (68. Müller), Khizaneishvili (38. Strauß), Kläsener (68. Mölzl), Prettenthaler (68. da Costa) -Thurk (68. Benschneider), Sinkala (68. Szabics), Hain (46. Werner), Makarenko (46. Kern) - Ngwenya (68. Möhrle), Torghelle (78. Ledezma) Tore: 0:1 Torghelle (9.), 1:1 Vasiljevic (13.), 1:2 Thurk (21.), 1:3 Makarenko (22.), 1:4 Werner (49.), 1:5 Werner (69.), 1:6 Ledezma (84.) Torghelle, Thurk , Szabics and Ledezma are Strikers he needs to get past to try to get on the team. They also have some youngsters on their reserve team that are pretty good. Funny to hear some folks talk about that with 27 he is already to old to teach some of the things he needs to make it in Europe.
Re: Breaking News: Ngwenya at FC Bayern If you didn't live in Europe, how can your first team be Everton? Have you seen Everton play? Have you been to Goodison Park? Soccer is soccer, support the home team first and drink all the beer you want for Everton. If you enjoy soccer so much so that you choose a team from Liverpool across the pond, shouldn't your first team be the team where you live? Highly doubt you'd be taken seriously in Liverpool as an Everton fan.
Re: Breaking News: Ngwenya at FC Bayern woah woah woah who are you to tell someone what team they should support?? i got 1000$ u have a jersey of any european team in your closet who's stadium u have never visited u have never seen a live game etc ..... who gives a chiiiiiiiiiiit who u support!! Rayado hasta los pelotas!
Re: Breaking News: Ngwenya at FC Bayern I don't live in Europe nor have I ever traveled there - Everton is not my *first* team but I am a big Everton fan. How can I be a big Everton fan? Well lets see . . . in 2004 (pre-Dynamo) they came to Houston to play in what was billed as the Copa de Tejas (or something like that) They played Pachuca and Club America, that was my first professional level live soccer match and I was hooked - loved it. My family were already EPL fans and it was great to see one of the teams from the EPL live here in Houston. So I did see them play live . . . no I did not grow up watching Everton at Goodison Park, I also did not grow up watching soccer I came to the beautiful game later in life - does that make me less a fan? Who friggin' cares? Especially in this country we need as many fans of the sport as we can get -so why don't we trash anyone who doesn't fit our perfect view of what a true soccer fan should be . . . . I get tired of all the I was watching soccer since . . . .blah blah blah - this city and this country needs fans, driving people away from the sport with an elitist attitude will not make this sport anymore popular. Why do you think the European clubs come over here? To drive their brand - they are trying to become more popular to sell those jerseys and get more veiwership outside of their normal audience. In the case of Everton it worked they have done a great job in driving their brand in Houston - you will see quite a few Everton fans on these boards that live in Houston. Oh and feel free to explain to my 13 year old son who lives and breathes soccer, who happens to be a huge Arsenal fan that he can't be an Arsenal fan because he has never seen them play live or has never been to England . . . sheesh what a piece of work . . . .
