That's disgraceful. Umbrellae are most definitely permitted in the stadium and are only not to be used when they are obstructing someones view. I didn't see what happened but I do remember seeing the corner chant as he was being escorted out. What the hell was he using an umbrella for, though?
Good idea. But wouldn't they WANT that? Wouldn't they want to bust a few skulls? Part of me thinks that if they can't throw everyone out, they'll just grab a few people at random and make examples out of them. The other part says that we all go in, sit somewhere NOT in the corner, and just act like the other fans, talking quietly to each other, applauding only when necessary. OTOH, we don't want to take the players down into our mess. I like the streamer idea.
You know the real shame of this? Now that this has happened, the Nordecke is going to be even more likely to get their back up when approached by ANYONE in opposing colors, no matter how benign the intent. This is going to ramp up the tension more quickly and more frequently and the "reputation" that is being applied to us will grow into itself. THAT'S what really sucks about this. It's similar to the oft-cited experiment with otherwise mellow college students, half of whom play the role of "prisoners" while the other half play the "guards". It doesn't take long before each group settles into the roles the power disparity sets up for them, with the "prisoners" acting more and more like a bunch of violent apes and the "guards" ever more willing to knock their heads in and verbally abuse them, and generally trip on the power they have.
Are these "traveling supporters" from the UK, or just locals or regionals who happen to follow WHU ? We have a group of wannabe hoolies in KC that used to come out, all american skins, but they would be there to only be drunk and cause trouble. They always got kicked out before halftime and paid zero attention to the games. So I may come to a game at C_BUS, if I wear my KCW jersey, are you all going to kick my ass even If I refuse to pour beer on you? Im planning an Amtrak trip to hit up every stadium over three weeks next summer. Thanks ! Sidenote: I have been to several English grounds for matches, and overall, Id say our fans are less fat and more athletic. It seems most supporters groups in MLS are people who actually play the game ( Supporters ), than don't play the game, ( Hoolies) My observation. Matthias KC MO Bleed Blue
Any chance that we could get a thread going regarding Post-Game? Where we can write about the play on the field and not the extra-curriculars? What this game showed was that our reserve defenders are not that good. Heck, our first team defenders are not anything to brag about, but our reserves are fairly poor. We need help help help back there. Also, I'm not discouraged by the loss. West Ham is deeper and more talented. That simple. Their reserves beating our reserves states the obvious. Their goals were nice. The first (Ashton?) was a great piece of turning and shooting. The last was an absolute rocket. Anyone else impressed by Elanio's crossing ability? The cross for the goal was superb, and he had a couple of other beauties. I better start tracking his reserve progress. Garey and Lenhart did pretty well, given a dearth of service at times. The more I watch Lenhart the more I am impressed by his positioning and ball control. But here's a tip Steve: people will start to catch on to your "head fake and back dribble to keep possession". Better use your body a bit or you'll cause a dangerous counter. Garey has been much maligned around here at times but I thought he had a good game, even if he didn't get that goal (which was a superb header by the way). Regarding the extra-curriculars: much ado about nothing.
Just to reply to this...even though it's so far off topic NOW....a lot of the people I saw getting chased down were Crew fans after the game...and they were fighting with other Crew fans...there was one group who was jsut starting shit with EVERYONE...it was bad guys. <3
I don't speak for everyone, but I think you'll find we're generally a pretty welcoming group. This past weekend we had a couple Kansas City fans (not Ryan Pore's family and friends) who drove all the way from KC and visit us at our pre-game tailgate. Same for the game against New England.
Sorry, I'm coming into this thread late, and am skipping around to see what everyone is talking about, my mistake <3
I was at the game and it was quite interesting. Seeing 5-6 cops chase the Crew fan in the parking lot was hilarious. Good times. HBR
Obviously yes. However, while doing it we can have the common courtesy to shout racial epithets at you. You might want to double-think that Amtrak stop in Columbus. Unless you like downtown Cincy or Cleveland at 3 in the morning...
Sorry for dragging JoePa unintentionally into this thread. I really was thinking why Garber would actually dignify us with a visit and that's the only thing that occurred to me.
If you refuse to pour beer on us it'll just be a sign of disrespect. (kidding) I, personaly have never met a Kansas City supporter that I haven't gotten along with and I'm pretty sure that trend is going to continue.
FTR, Common Man & The Torg are wanting Crew Supporters to call in right now to talk about the fight. 614-821-1460.
If you want, but if you ask me their probably the only ones on the station who would give crew fans a decent shake.
